Bryant is trying to bully. That headshot on Shea was about as bad as a penalty can be and not be jon releasable. It’s going to get ugly if it stays close

Somebody tell Hobart no 15 yard shots, oh, and the goalie is a lefty. That was a shot into transition for the pole to score for Bryant; stupid shot. And, what’s with the one man clearing
Strategy??

Slow start but getting better and not getting intimidated by the numerous Bryant cheap hits (Shea and Simas end of quarter)

Great to score late instead of giving one up.

Need 30 more minutes but shutting Bryant out for the last 24:30 of the half after they got their 3rd goal at the 9:26 mark in Q1 is fairly impressive. Nice to be mostly healthy now, even Baltzer is back out there since being injured in the Cornell game. (Greene, Delano and 1-2 others who played this year seem to still be injured but of the guys who started the season were in the best health we’ve been since Cornell/Cuse)

Still little over a quarter to play but at 17-4 w 3 min left in Q3 I think we’re looking at a 2016 rematch in NEC finals.

They listened to us because through 3Q 28/38 shots were on goal. Will get worse with backups in I’m sure but we’ve been in cage all day.

Backups looking really sloppy. Not as sloppy as that backup
Goalie for Bryant but sloppy enough.

Since Bryant has been in D I, no team has dropped 21 on them until Hobart did today!! Our defense and goalie holding O'Rourke, Abladian and McGovern to a combined 1 goal is amazing. Rest up Bart. St. Joe's is waiting. I don't think any of the lax pundits thought Hobart would win, let alone annihilate the Bulldogs. Well done Statesmen. Rest up. St. Joe's is a great challenge.

Predictions for Hobart-Saint Joseph's? I am smelling a Hobart upset. They seem to be peaking. And, when it comes to the NEC Tournament, I really think Saint Joseph's has been snake-bit for sometime.

Hobart doesn't have the size to go blow for blow with St. Joe's. They need to keep working their offense to move the ball around and create good shooting opportunities and avoid CTOs from their side. Shea struggled a bit yesterday until he caught his stride. Holtby had a career day after allowing a couple of low shots / goals early on.

Hobart has the ability to win the game, but they need to play smart, disciplined lacrosse. SJU is undefeated in the NEC and 13-3 overall. Only loss at home all season was in OT to #12ish Penn. They should / will be 3.5-4 goal favorites, but the Statesmen can pull off the upset if they keep riding this 5-game win streak.

Should be a great final / championship game.

Shea started 5/12 and finished 17/26 (Shaifer took the last one) and I believe that included one FO he didn’t contest at period end after we had that last second goal. So he went 12/14 after that against the kid who beat him for All NEC second team behind Cole. I think he can be above 40% if our wings play well and they’ve improved and we have Baltzer back which is bigger than a lot of folks realize outside of Hobart fans.

Think all three of their loses are by 1. They also only beat Bryant by 1. It’s going to be a dogfight. Have to think SJU with their shiny reg season conference record over the years and no playoff appearances to show for it will be super hungry to put us away early. Have to be ready and off the buss and the opening whistle.

I don’t know what to make of this final,

the semi’s went against conventional wisdom,
a blowout by Hobart,

it’ll be extremely intense, so a must see game for sure.

Look at Bryant’s schedule. Lost to Dartmouth (11-8), lost to BU by 5, UVM by 10, Air Force by 6. All solid opponents so no shame but their best win was a come from behind against Bart where Bart put in the backup goalie ahead 5-3 at halftime and gave up goals on just about every shot made by a Bryant player. I really thought w Bryant returning most everything from last year that they’d be far far better but they really were pretty mediocre this year and got exposed. Honestly I’ve seen them vs us for years and they try to play bully ball and once we got ahead and especially after we responded to their early Q3 goal with a couple they seemed to have more or less given up early in Q3 at 11-4 or 12-4. They’ve lost some of the mojo they’ve had from 5-6yrs ago still a ton of talent but if a transitioning Hobart D can hold ORourke, Abladian and McGovern to 1pt, with 7 min left in Q4 of a blowout, it says a lot.

They have an issue with their goalie and he returns next year IMO. The backup is huge. Makes Gunnar Waldt look like Mugsey Bogues but if he hasn’t played in two years basically he’s probably not beat cariciolo out next year.

Not to say we can’t beat St Joes and the margin is eye opening but at some point they kind of quit when they realize they couldn’t intimidate us. It’s going to take a full 60 min tomorrow. And we may very well be without one of our top midfielders John Herlihy (25,4 in 9, really 8 games played) who hurt his shoulder early in Q4.

The regular season game between Hobart and St Joe's was mediocre, IMO. In the end, St Joe's played more consistently. But it easily could have gone the other way. If Hobart has learned how to deal with its emotions ( ie, don't come out flat, play high energy AND good decision ball, and recover from the other team's rins) then I take Hobart. But if there is a quarter long shutdown on O or D, I give it to St Joe's. It's a character game: who imposes the pace and who can be resilient.

I like this approach. The best case for Bart is that Shea should be able to at least give us some possessions and our D has improved vastly last two weeks with some younger or lesser experienced guys really stepping up. Nolan Firth was one of just a very small number or AAs out of Section 3 last year and a top recruit for us and he’s improving every week.

The zone that stymied Bryant will/should negate a lot of the SJU's offensive size..and our D was nasty yesterday. Praying the momentum continues into tomorrow!

I agree. The intensity yet control with which they slid and checked was beautiful. Haven’t seen that form Bart in a little while honestly .
