The rationale is that any team that might be considered for the top 25 should be able to regularly dispatch any under 30 team. Then you can evaluate the quality of their above 30 wins and any losses. My system is pretty loose, but I'm sure there is a way to make it more rigorous. Something like it, or some aspect of it, could resolve the issue we are currently seeing with Jacksonville fairly well (their three top wins put them solidly in the top 15 at least) -- rather than #22 RPI. It also helps deal with the question of a team that has a very good winning percentage, but a very weak schedule.
HS Lacrosse's Culver Academy is a good example. They're in Indiana, play Indiana schools, and... Travel to the Northeast and win. Based on their wins, they're one of the top teams in the nation. Some years, the best team in the nation. Based on their RPI, due to their playing these Indiana schools, they're far from top of the pile... despite, inarguably, being one of the best teams in the nation. Roll, your system of focusing on their Best Wins (and their Worst Losses) makes substantially more sense.

What year are you speaking of re Culver? Looks like they played regional (and I’m being generous) teams and won them all. Besides those games, I see 3 “east coast” teams and a 1-2 record. I’ve never heard of Kiski Prep, their lone win.

They're Top Ten every year. Here's a pre-Corona example. Culver in 2019. 2019 National Rankings and... Click on their Team Name to see their schedule. Beating up on the Southern and Midwest teams kills their RPI but... they also beat up on several Top Ten teams. Their only loss was to McDonogh, 12-11, early in the season. Bottomline, RPI is not a great metric for deciding whether Team A is better than Team B.

RPI, blah blah, blah.

Who would you take, Ivy League or the field to win it all?

Take away Maryland, and I'll take the Ivy League all day this year.

Time was when Kiski was a feeder school for Ivy football. However, time was when Ivy Football was perennially nationally ranked...

Full disclosure, MasonDixon had Marquette as their #1 team. I assumed it was a mistake and made it Maryland.

Can you recalc it so we can see what it looks like with Marquette snagging that number one? I mean, I think we all agree they're flying under the radar. Only MasonDixon had the balls to say it.

Because I am in Spain and sent my post in via phone instead of desktop and wasn’t sure it went through the first time. I’m not all that confident about all my ranking this week simply because I usually see some games live or streamed but this weekend could not get espn here and have been relying on scores and stats alone.
