Re: Suffolk 2022
Been a rough go of it for Suffolk D1 teams in non-league action - granted against some tough competition. But jarring to see the division's top 2 teams uncompetitive against elite opposition.

Re: Suffolk 2022
Big one tonight in D2, Mount Sinai and Comsewogue. One of the few teams in Suffolk that might be able to give the Mustangs a challenge.

Manhasset and SWR will be best equipped to challenge Mount Sinai. Especially Manhasset, as they have one of the best FOGO in the country.

Yeah, the key to beating them is keep the ball out of Spallina's hands. If they play Manhasset again, should be a classic like last year.JoeMauer89 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 12:14 pmwahoomurf wrote: ↑Sat Apr 09, 2022 11:58 amStopping Spallina will be a huge task.JoeMauer89 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 08, 2022 5:05 pmHopefully they can, I agree it should be a good one!

Tigers win 12-11. And after the results yesterday, we're the only undefeated team left in D1.LI13 wrote: ↑Mon Apr 11, 2022 5:33 pm Tomorrow's game between league unbeatens Smithtown East and Northport will be live on YouTube thanks to Varsity Media.

Re: Suffolk 2022
The key to containing Mount Sinai is ball control and physicality. That's what I took out of this game. I don't think GC had the offensive firepower to pull it off. Manhasset certainly does, and they have arguably as good or better FOGO in Girard. Should be the game of the year when they meet in the LIC's in June!

Re: Suffolk 2022
The game I watched today between Garden City and Mt. Sinai was entertaining as hell...IMHO and Shriver's.
Both goalies were enfuego. MS demonstrated the importance of FO wing play. I'd be curious to see the ground ball disparity as well. Staub did as good a job as humanly possible to try and contain Joe Spallina. The kid is as good a HS player as I've seen in a long time.
Lagniappe, for me at least, was listening to Shriver's mellifluous commentary. It brought back many memories.

What other Long Island team has the defensive chops to hold Mt. Sinai to 8 goals and Spallina to 4? I'm curiuos?JoeMauer89 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 22, 2022 3:59 pm

Possibly CSH; their Yale bound defenseman is terrific, and could potentially limit Spallina. Mt Sinai has other good players like LaForge, Jake Spallina, Caretta, and Marsala, but their gameplan is so reliant on Joey that if you hold him in check you'll hold the offense in check.wahoomurf wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 3:33 pmWhat other Long Island team has the defensive chops to hold Mt. Last Friday, a terrific Cornell bound defenseman held Spallina to 4 goals.MS still found a way to win.random observer wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 7:45 pmPossibly CSH; their Yale bound defenseman is terrific, and could potentially limit Spallina. Re: Suffolk 2022
I was simply answering which team could hold them to 8 goals, not who could beat them (and I rate Pisano slightly higher than Staub). I think if we're answering the latter, it's not necessary to hold them to 8 if you can outscore them. Manhasset certainly is capable of competing in a shootout as evidenced by last year's LIC championship. They've got a lot more offensive firepower than GC and if Girard can tilt the field that might protect the defense enough to give them a chance.wahoomurf wrote: ↑Mon Apr 25, 2022 12:37 pmLast Friday, a terrific Cornell bound defenseman held Spallina to 4 goals.MS still found a way to win.random observer wrote: ↑Sun Apr 24, 2022 7:45 pmPossibly CSH; their Yale bound defenseman is terrific, and could potentially limit Spallina.
