Is 2023 or 2024 the last year for the Covid 5th year? If so then all we’ll have is regular and medical redshirts and normal transfers after that and beyond? Should lessen the portal volume unless NCAA changes one free transfer rule.

I believe that since the freshman from 2020 get a covid year that 2024 will be the final year not 2023

I think another way to look at it is anyone who was on a roster for the spring 2020 season got an extra year. Sophomores in 2020 are seniors now and all have the extra year. If a player was hurt/redshirted another season, he’d have another two years.

Spring freshman 2020 did not get an extra year. Spring winter and fall freshman athletes did but not spring. Made no sense.

The “extra” year should stop in 2024 but the effects will last longer. You have to take into account all the guys that took a PG year or redshirted

I did not know that about “spring freshmen”. Do they normally play? I believe that the rule is that you have 5 years in which to complete your four playing seasons from the date that you matriculate full time. So, maybe spring freshmen are mostly enrolled to get academically acclimated and do not normally play? They play the following four seasons?

I heard NCAA is giving out 7 th year. To get this, kid would need a redshirt(freshman), covid year, and injury year. It’s true, it’s true

This would be be very nice for the kid, final year of lacrosse and graduate med school in the same year.

Was told by a current St Bonnaventure player that I coached that Dobson is going to be at Duke next year. Makes sense as they have to replace Adler and arguably Dobson is the best goalie in D1 right now.

What’s growing old? Kids transferring? Duke nabbing the top goalie transfer ever couple years? Or Dobson’s transfer being reported?

How is Duke every going to be able to recruit and develop goalies if they keep just grabbing transfers? What kid would want to walk into that?

I mean, not like they were recruiting and developing good goalies before this. since 2010 they had like 2 seasons where their starting goalie saved above 50% in a season. never been a strength of theirs.

I doubt they care about that,

today was very eye opening, they can only care really about
keeping up with the Terps, and UVA and …

And I don’t much care,
because Adler and now Dobson were able to trade up on their 5th year for a solid grad degree.
