New England West 2022
Re: New England West 2022
Avon only has two results posted as part of the schedule listed on their own website, which is a good indicator of how they viewed those first two match ups. Either way, certainly not the start they typically enjoy.

Re: New England West 2022
It’s listed as a game on the schedule they posted to Instagram. The other teams counted it as a game. Avon doesn’t want to be 0-4 so they didn’t “count it” after the outcome. You don’t put malvern prep, a top 25 team, on your schedule as a scrimmage.

Predictions for todays slate:
Taft over Andover
Wick over Kent easily
DA bounces back and beats up on Berkshire
Westy over hotchkiss in a close one
TP over Loomis
Avon loses to Bell Hill and goes to 0-5
Choate will continue to sneak by bad teams as they play NMH

Weird. I got the 0-4 from their site. Guess they changed their mind. Anyhow, they've had two 1 goal losses. They'll flip these results soon.
Re: New England West 2022
Since I took an active interest in NE West 1, over 10 years ago, I have heard the same old Avon story. Then pretty much the same results every year. "You are what your record says you are".
Re: New England West 2022
That's odd. I'm looking at the desktop version on Safari, maybe you're looking at the mobile? I'm not an Avon fan or anything so it's no big deal to me if they're 0-2 or 0-4. Just figured that school websites are usually more reliable than Inside Lacrosse. Apparently not. Looks like they're clearly out of the top four West1 teams this year. Interested to see how they stack up with Choate, Loomis, TP, and Westminster.

5-2 Loomis over TP after 1q.
#1 for LC is a stud. Team seems young but tons of talent on the field. Lacking a FOGO but solid Defense is making up for that.

LC / TP - 8-8 after 3q... both teams playing tough. TP scores 3 unanswered though in the last few minutes of the quarter. 4th underway...

Pelicans looking to make some noise this year...
Re: New England West 2022
LC (1-1) over TP (2-1), 10-8. Terrific game - so much talent on both sides. Very surprised by the Loomis team, who on paper, doesn't have the same big-name commits TP has on their roster (UVA, Syracuse, Utah, Merrimack, etc).
For some color commentary...LC goalie makes an incredible save off the bounce in the last 30 seconds of the game while man-down. LC attackman sets up in the corner after a timeout, splits 2 TP defenders, waves goodbye, and ices the game at 10-8 with almost no clock left.

Kent is a disgrace of a program. Wick is intentionally taking shot clock violations. Wick's JV and Brunswick B (not the same) would both smoke Kent. Drop Kent, play Delbarton

Re: New England West 2022
I thought this would be a rebuild year for Loomis with a brand new coach who didn’t have a lot of time to recruit. Losing a graduating class with several players who have started since their freshman and sophomore years wouldn’t leave you optimistic either. But these first two games have been promising.
They have a capable offense led by the aforementioned PG, a cohesive defense with an athletic pole who can hold his own against almost any opponent’s top guy, and a confident goalie. Loomis’ fogo from last year is their starting football rb who seems to be focusing on that recruiting process and avoiding possible injury. A big loss. I think this hole at faceoff leaves them pretty vulnerable against better teams.
In comparison to when Grim was at the helm, the past decade of Loomis lacrosse has been underwhelming with frequent sub 500 seasons. Time will tell where they end up in May( but I am intrigued.
Ultimately, schools like Loomis, Hotchkiss, and Choate investing in their lacrosse programs and becoming competitive makes the league more interesting and fun to watch. Any team that can challenge the status quo from the past few years is a welcome sight to me. Blowouts are a waste of times for both teams. I doubt it’s a fun bus ride into Kent after that Brunswick game.
While my gut feeling says Brunswick easily runs away with the league title, I think (and hope) there will be more parity across the board this year.

Loomis is easily losing by 10. Wick will be even better next season. Wick 23s and 24s are outrageous

Chestbeaters like this are who I try to avoid standing next to at NE West gamesPrimeTime21 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 8:20 am Loomis is easily losing by 10. Wick will be even better next season. Wick 23s and 24s are outrageous
Re: New England West 2022
I never said the game on Saturday will be close. There is still a gigantic talent gap between the Brunswick’s, Taft’s, and Deerfield’s of the world and the Loomis’, Hotchkiss’, and Choate’s; it would be patronizing to think otherwise. The top teams aren’t getting worse any time soon.PrimeTime21 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 07, 2022 8:20 am Loomis is easily losing by 10. Wick will be even better next season. Wick 23s and 24s are outrageous
All I am saying is it’s better for everyone if half of the league games aren’t schedule fillers that are over before the game has even started.

Re: New England West 2022
No doubt about, iron sharpens iron. In the 2012-2016 timeframe (roughly), nearly every game was competitive. A team couldn't afford to let down for a single game, and it made the league schedule a real gauntlet. With the improvement over the past few years from the likes of Loomis and Choate, I hope we are getting back to that.
