Johns Hopkins 2022
Re: Johns Hopkins 2022
WOW! If Lars had not pulled (9 for 10) LaSalla when the score was 10-1, the final score could have ended up 30 to 3. When was the last time Hopkins had an opponent clear their bench mid way through the 3rd Quarter? There was a very distinct difference in athleticism today.
Hopkins really needs to write 2022 off and start developing under classmen for the future. The current trend is extremely dangerous. College lacrosse is better when Hopkins is one of the top teams every year. They cannot let this downhill momentum drive them past the point of no return.

Yes, athletic players pretty much always help in anything you do in lacrosse.
But there’s a reason ten-man rides employ zone principles. You don’t need athletic superiority to employ a ten-man ride. You need everyone completely buying into it, working together, and getting aggressive.
Are you going to give up goals from time to time? Sure, but if you’re already ten goals behind and can’t win face offs, what’s the risk?
If nothing else, a ten-man ride gets your team in a more aggressive mind set and working as a team. That alone makes a ten-man ride worth trying. And just maybe you can force a couple of turnovers and change the momentum of the game.
But you can’t use it if the coaches don’t coach it, and it’s pretty obvious that the Hopkins coaches aren’t coaching it.

Hopkins really needs to focus on winning the Syracuse game.

If you coach it, that's practice time taken away from something else.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 3:39 pm But you can’t use it [10-man ride] if the coaches don’t coach it, and it’s pretty obvious that the Hopkins coaches aren’t coaching it.

What … practice time surrendering the ball on ten-man rides? If nothing else, practicing to implement ten-man rides will also help your defense clear against ten-man rides. It should also help everyone practice carrying the ball against pressure, which hasn’t been a particularly strong aspect of the Blue Jays’ game.CU77 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 3:46 pmIf you coach it, that's practice time taken away from something else.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 3:39 pm But you can’t use it [10-man ride] if the coaches don’t coach it, and it’s pretty obvious that the Hopkins coaches aren’t coaching it.
Anyway, off-ball play has been problematic on both sides of the field. If nothing else, practicing the ten-man ride, maybe the ultimate team-oriented play, will get the Blue Jays playing more like a team.
Clears have improved, and the defense hasn’t always been awful, but too frequently the Blue Jays look like ten independent contractors out there.

Shouldn’t you be implementing your own ten-man ride to cause some turnovers and steal some possessions?
Don’t have a ten-man ride? Don’t even practice it? Why the f*ck not?!?

The lack of overall athleticism on Hopkins seems very obvious.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2022
Syracuse has as much if not more shooting power as UVA, so we can see where that’s going. Simply need more shooting power to try to keep it close. This should be fun.

Hopkins seems to put a lot of guys on the field who are short and not particularly fast. Weren't most of these kids ranked really highly in the recruiting rankings? Something isn't adding up.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2022
Speaks volumes about what those rankings mean, eh?
Seen too many busts to put much stock in 'em.

No one can watch our defense and say they are not athletic. We have players on offense with speed and athleticism.
Are we outgunned by Virginia in athleticism? Yeah, but so is just about everyone else.

I've watched 3 of Hopkins' game. I am sure you know the team better than I do but Uva a side, it seems there is a lack of overall size and speed on the Hopkins team.DocBarrister wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 4:10 pmThat’s the same lazy excuse we’ve been hearing for over a decade.1766 wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 3:56 pmBig Dog wrote: ↑Sat Mar 05, 2022 2:34 pmYou must be watching a different game, doc. Not sure how that's a lazy take. Most anyone who played lacrosse would probably make this assessment. Uva wasn't just more athletic. They looked like hulking monsters with Usain Bolt speed compared to Hopkins.
Incredibly Hopkins recruiting classes were ranked in similar space as those of Uva's. Something is amiss. It was night and day with what we see play out on the field.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2022
Almost all of thise guys are Peteo players and are typical of the last 7-8 years recruits. It takes some time to clear that out. Millman recruits won't even hit Himewood until this fall and even then it is a full recruiting class from his committs.

You apparently did not watch the UVA-'Cuse game. Lars called off the dogs at 19-9 with 12 minutes left.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2022
Hopefully for the sake of Hopkins they are bigger and faster. It's going to be hard to compete with the top teams with small slow guys and bigger slow guys.
