She caught a ton of flak from the Dems, including Leader Pelosi.

She's on a short string. I dunno about "moron & hater". I'm concerned about whether she really understands the tropes she played into. She's certainly being confronted over them! The question will be whether she learns from this, finds common cause with those who have suffered anti-semitism and Islamaphobia, and yet finds a way to be a critic of support for the Netanyahu government policies. Yeah, give her a chance.

But not years and years of chances like the GOP gave King, like they give Trump daily.

Right. Omar doesn't understand what she's messaging. ..

The GOP abandoned King & tried to primary him. They removed him from committees so he doesn't get any tv time to further embarass the party.

Pelosi put ACO, Omar, & Tlaib on prominent committees so they could generate inflammatory video clips, but their bomb throwing is producing collateral damage blowback. She needs to murder board their talking point readings before she puts them before the cameras.

Huh? You commented about King immediately above.

That comment follows a discussion of King and Omar and the difference between years of giving King a pass and now the immediate demands for censure of Omar.

You doubled down as if King was appropriately dealt with by the GOP and didn't acknowledge that the GOP gave him a pass for two decades, nor that he's still got the support of Trump and the Trumpist base. You then doubled down on the call for censure of Omar.

You can't claim you've not commented. We get it.

The arrest of the USCG officer shows that the FBI is screening for white supremacist rhetoric online & responding to tips. Well done to the Coast Guard HQ for the tip on him. Who knows how many potential domestic terrorist attacks, from all cohorts, are thwarted by the FBI.

I repeat, the discussion had been going back and forth about Omar and King, and the huge differences in the timeline re outrage. King two decades, Omar two months. You chose to chip in the way you did as if all is well with the GOP House censure of King (finally!!!) yet forget that, even now, after this most recent outrageous set of statements, he still has Trump's support and that of Trump's base. Yet claim to want to hold Omar to a dramatically higher standard.

We get it.

I'm going to be plenty tough on Omar after she's had a chance to learn and grow. I've been a 15 year board member of the leading group in the US in interfaith dialogue, founded 30 years ago to combat religious intolerance most specifically anti-semitism, and "where difference is a force for good". I helped move the organization from Christian Jewish dialogue to embrace the same process with Islam, and we've made slow, but important strides.

I've watched people learn and grow as they became exposed to the beauty of other religious backgrounds and grew more aware of their prior biases and misunderstandings. I've learned and grown through this exposure.

Omar needs to grapple with this. I'll give her a chance.

Yes, people can be 'bad' for their thoughts. They don't need to have become violent to have hateful bigotry in their hearts.

I can definitely speak to the ideology of white nationalism/white supremacy. Evil. Period. Horrendous legacy.

I don't think 'black nationalism' had the same notions of genetic superiority inherent in the white supremacy movement, but to the extent that hate was fostered, that's 'bad', evil.

On Omar's statement above, there's not necessarily an equivalence between "Israel" and Judaism or Jews. It's more complicated. What she meant though, may well have been anti-semitic, so I'm not letting her off the hook. But I'd give her a chance to redeem herself, and time to do so.

Guess these weren't important enuff to report. No white supremacists to further the media agenda.

https://www.worldtribune.com/unreported ... ast-month/

in January two bombs tore through a Roman Catholic cathedral on the southern Philippines island of Jolo where Muslim militants are active, killing at least 20 people and wounding 111 others during a Sunday Mass.

In 2018, thousands of Christians were killed by Fulani herdsmen, leaving some to say that genocide is occurring in the Middle Belt of Nigeria, The Christian Post reported.

You don't get anything. You just impose your preconceived notions on others.

The first I learned of King's record was when GOP leadership punished him. Fine with me.
Not worthy of my comment. GOP leadership did the right thing.

Omar has yet to be held accountable by Dem leadership for her antisemitic rhetoric. No committee assignments rescinded. A resolution that was so watered down that she voted for it & is holding it up as a victory. She showed no sincere contrition.

Maybe you should invite her on a retreat with you.

Yep. Bingo.

The far left pro Palestinian folks I've met over the years (mostly in Ann Arbor) are very, very precise about the words they use.

These Jewish insults are intentional. And they don't want to hear that they're part of the problem.

White supremacist, black supremacist, islamic supremacist ... FULL STOP NOPE ... you need to figure that stuff out well in advance of running for Congress. Come back to me when you have stopped hating.
Yep. Bingo.

The far left pro Palestinian folks I've met over the years (mostly in Ann Arbor) are very, very precise about the words they use.

These Jewish insults are intentional. And they don't want to hear that they're part of the problem.
And if that's indeed where she lands, I'm with you 100%.
I just don't think I have enough to be there, yet.

But that could change pretty quickly.

Congress members need to learn & grow before they get there.

Results matter. Omar's also a moron & a hater, to boot.
She just happens to be a Muslim, which makes her immune from critique,
Really, she's "immune from critique"???
Why are we even talking about it then?
She caught a ton of flak from the Dems, including Leader Pelosi.

She's on a short string. I dunno about "moron & hater". I'm concerned about whether she really understands the tropes she played into. She's certainly being confronted over them! The question will be whether she learns from this, finds common cause with those who have suffered anti-semitism and Islamaphobia, and yet finds a way to be a critic of support for the Netanyahu government policies. Yeah, give her a chance.

But not years and years of chances like the GOP gave King, like they give Trump daily.

Salty, you claim not to be a Trump apologist, but we can read. TDS...

Sure, you too.

King has been in public life since 1996, a racist jerk from the get-go. In Congress since 2003.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_King

None of this was new.
So what ? None of this shows that I ever defended King. I don't think I ever commented on him before.

The GOP just now got off their butts. He's been an embarrassment to R's like me for a very long time. Apparently not you...
What was I supposed to do ? I never voiced support for him. Until this flap, I paid no attention to him.
You're creating a strawman. You're channeling Joe McCarthy (he was a (R) too). You didn't even bother to ask if I now, or ever supported King.

And the GOP and you are going crazy about two Muslim women and one Hispanic woman who just arrived in Congress. Appointed to committees by, uh oh, another woman. Who you are now suggesting control them... Pelosi should pull Omar from the foreign affairs committee, like the GOP did for all of King's committee assignments. It's obvious GOP leadership wants King gone. Like you, Dem leadership is protecting & enabling Omar, with their watered down resolution which Omar claims as a victory -- she still doesn't acknowledge her antisemitic rhetoric.

Really, that's the first you ever heard of King's white nationalist, white supremacist crappola???
Where you been? Watching Pirro?

Come on, it's just not credible that a guy as well-informed as you seem to be at times was totally clueless about King these past two years, at a minimum.
