Former UNC lax commit Troy Reeder (before decommitting to play fb at PSU and Delaware) is starting at LB for the Rams in the super bowl.

Oh dear. That was abysmal. This team is still very much a work in progress. Need some midfielders to step up.

UNC gets a top 3 class every year. Where are they? Think the problem is not the players.

There is NO PROBLEM whatsoever. They should keep doin’ what they’ve been doin’ through at least February 27. After that, maybe they can reassess.

These coaching gigs are great gigs,
not really year round 300+ days a year jobs,
lots of fringe benefits,

there’s nothing like the push you get in the private sector.

I used to think that any competent coach could coach at four or five schools and make the NCAAT regularly, but times have changed and the job has become more demanding, the hours longer, the work year longer. And coaches do get fired for records now. That said, I coached enough hs sports while working full time--practices and games were literally after a full school day--for under $3K a season to be amazed that the most highly paid DI coaches make 100 times that for a job requires them to coach--I know it's not easy and that the hours are worse now--and not have to teach or be an administrator or counselor from 7:30 until the end of the school day. It is wrong that colleges scrimp on professors' salaries and cut back tenure track positions while paying coaches of nonrevenue sports more than a quarter a million dollars a year. Pay the teachers more and let the coaches scrape by on $100K or so.

Carolina really needs to tighten up the close defense. OSU and Brown both got way too may layups.

No, no, no … the North Carolina players must be tired and exhausted from all the lacrosse they have been playing. Give them a few days off for some rest and relaxation. The season has just begun! There’s no rush “to tighten up the close defense.” Let them sleep in on Sunday … we’ll wake them half-an-hour before the game. Then back to work on Monday!

Face-offs and goal tending lead Carolina over Brown, 14-11.

I think I'm going to start pointing out when someone posts something like this and it's not true.

UNC had the #16 class for the HS graduating class of 2019, according to IL (but who else ranks classes?). These are 3rd year players with sophomore eligibility now, like Lance Tillman.

https://www.insidelacrosse.com/article/ ... dame/50462
#4 for the HS class of 2017.

I don't think IL ranked incoming classes for the HS class of 2020, but judging by their top 50 players, UNC probably didn't have a top 5 class.

So, HS classes of 2018 and 2021 were top 3 or better, the other 3 classes that make up their roster were not top 3.

Regardless of class rank there will be players that live up to their hype and there will be players that dont. Also in that mix will be players that surprise you by playing above their expected level. In the end, how much does the staff help them improve? How much does the player do in the offseason to improve? I think some of the freshman have been playing pretty well. Some are pressing as to why they are not getting goals but they do other things well. How many passes were dropped right on the crease in yesterdays game? My answer is a LOT. That is not on the coaches that is the players nerves. They go away with continued playing time and a reduction of those drops. Take a deep breath before pointing the finger at either the players or the coaches. No one bats 1000. It is February let them get better via hard work.

UNC gets more than their fair share of top recruiting classes, 90% of D1 coaches would kill for their talent, so I'm not sure the point here. Top three top four, top whatever they have tons of talent, and are underperforming. Now they may improve but for now, they are not getting it done.

I stated my point in the first sentence. UNC does not get top 3 classes every year. Obviously, they have lots of talent. Obviously, it's still February. They lost their entire first midfield line, all of whom were multi-year starters, plus their best defender. And it's February.

I was really impressed with his HS highlights. I figured he had a great chance to play early. Midfield is hard, and he's not gonna start over Kelly at attack.
