The loss of JB was no problem for them.
How people still have UVA ahead of UMD in some polls is mind boggling. Imagine that will change as more people see them in person. UMD passes the eyeball/sniff/whatever test you have. They are clearly the class of the nation. But that said, I still think anyone can win it all. Crazy things happen in May.

Defensively, you can see that wyers is hurt and struggling, but he was still better than most out there. What I saw out there against MD was that they had no cohesiveness, no synergy with the defensive unit. IMO it lies with SSDMs. There there are just as good or better D mids on this team that need to get more runs. And that is what the locker room is feeling. that the right guys are not on the field.
Fogo, Bailey will be fine, and Eric will only get better with more time. no concerns here
Goalie. I like that Coach switched things up. It motivated Sam last year, maybe it will motivate him this year. But I will not be surprised if Luke starts over Sam. Both are solid goalies when they are seeing the ball
Offense. Aiden and Kevin need to take control and be the leaders out there. I agree, Aiden needs to be back at attack. He is not a downhill dodger. Midfield, we need to find our 6 and run with them. They need to be more physical, there are not a threat to dodge. Adam, Riley and Evan I would say our our top middies. Move the ball and it at least hit the crosse when passing, Our passing was short, we had to bend down to catch, which allowed the D to catch up. And we need to be more efficient with EMO
We can beat Hopkins, Rutgers, Towson, Lafayette, give Duke a game. I predict 5-1 if we come together as a team and start playing that way. More than likely 4-2, at worst 3-3.
If we do not go at least 50/50 on face offs and we do not win the GB battle, it could be a long day at Homewood

Not sure what big secrets I let out about players being concerned, This whole forum is locker room talk. What I said seems like common knowledge, Inside lacrosse even roasted loyola for our lack of preseason show and first game.lorin wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 1:48 pmIf your son really is on the team, I find it pretty sad you would share locker room talk.BlueJaySince1947 wrote: ↑Thu Feb 17, 2022 11:58 amloyola2025 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 1:19 pmMy son says that there is some uneasiness... Much better effort today.
Defense looked good. But that isn’t the most talented Hopkins team. Rezanka was awesome.
We beat our man on offense somewhat consistently, but didn’t do much with it. Hopkins was getting their second slide.
But meh shooting, first half faceoffs, and turnovers did us in. Lots of positives and things that should be able to be corrected.
On to the next. Keep working and improving boys!

Re: Loyola Greyhounds 2022
this one hurt, they at least fought really hard but Hopkins made the right plays at the right time.
Hounds won more faceoffs, GB's, caused more turnovers and had even less turnovers compared to Hopkins but two goalies only making 4 saves combined is troublesome..
Offensive ball movement was better than last week and they got some looks but Hop goalie stood on his head and had his best game of his Blue Jay career. Only wish they could've canned a couple more shots especially those 4 straight pings off the cross bar in the 4th.
A couple people struggled today but this is a team sport so its a team loss. Everyone played well in stretches but they just have to be consistent. Really wish they pushed more in transition today with 8 failed clears by hopkins and 25 Hopkins turnovers.
I still don't officially know who the Quarterback of this offense is behind X. Aidan had a great day getting assists but scored 0 goals on 11 shots today. Kamish is the real deal, welcome to the show with 4 goals.
Bailey really improved down the stretch as the game went on!
SSDM's and Poles played a lot better. S/O Razanka and Matt Hughes for big games!
If the coaching staff can somehow figure out these goalie woes I believe they can right the ship. Onto another tough test next week; Rutgers

Absolutely agreed-as a former goalie I think the biggest thing is just picking a guy and going w him. It’s hard for anyone to perform consistently when they are always looking over their shoulder. 1 save in the first half hurt a bit-2nd half was better in the cage but the defensive effort in front of him was definitely better. Could be due to the goalie change or better communication, or a number of other things. At the end of the day having confidence is the biggest thing. The hounds also had 2 separate chances to win the game w under 2 min-I thought it was a really good defensive effort in the 2nd half but everyone needs to stay consistent for 4 quartershoundace1 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 7:54 pm this one hurt, they at least fought really hard but Hopkins made the right plays at the right time.

Re: Loyola Greyhounds 2022
There is no leadership with our offense. Has not been since Spencer. Very little off ball movement. Dodge and pop seems to be our only game plan. Costly turnovers at in opportune time. Especially at end of game You put the ball in the hands of your best ball handler. Olmstead turnover. We had two opportunities at the end to tie and we could not do itLaxfan01 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 19, 2022 9:03 pmAbsolutely agreed-as a former goalie I think the biggest thing is just picking a guy and going w him. Defensively. Wyers did a good job on disimone. Sally and Rezanka redeemed themselves. Benus not sure why he plays and Sherwood and mcgiillicuddy non factors
Hopkins was not a good team. Hands are full next week
Re: Loyola Greyhounds 2022
Yeah - all good points. Saw some really nice plays watching the recap. Dixon is an awesome announcer.
Consistency. We had our chances several times with over 5 minutes left. Defense held and got the ball back to the offense. Credit Hopkins swarming defense making stops and pushing transition.
4 Saves? I'm still scratching my head. What does a Coach, who was a goalie, need to do with his goalies? Only one who hasn't played is Yowan? Has Shafer checked out? Not motivated anymore? Come on Sam - I've been singing your praises a long time! As an aside, I heard there is a lot of confidence in Colton - maybe it was his first start jitters?
I'm just perplexed... This team has talent....

I think Colton is great, but your first start at Homewood can shake any kid. No idea what became of Shafer this weekend?
In any event, a better outing and lots of improvement all over the field except goal and maybe shot selection.
This team will be ready when the PL starts…doesn’t matter if we’ve lost every game by then, and I’m beginning to think that might be the case! Rutgers and Towson, with Georgetown down the road. No easy outs unfortunately. I wish Charlie would schedule one first game patsy, to help the team find its groove before diving into the deep end every year to start a season. Oh well. Onward.

Offensively with on paper better than last year have laid an egg for the first two games. Averaging 9 pts a game 44 dots and only 10 goals against Hopkins. Not very efficient. Our 5th year players are not playing that way. They need to step up big time.
Remember hopkins was missing grimes and McDermott. We could have lost by more.
Mva has a timeout and we don’t have the middle covered by the shorty go set a pick. That is hs lacrosse
Coaches need to figure it out. We could be 1-5 going into patriot league play At this point I see us at 6-8 for the season

Rutgers is a good opportunity for Bailey to do very well.

Re: Loyola Greyhounds 2022
A lot better Saturday although also a pretty steep decline in the quality of the opponent. I think Rutgers is better than Hopkins so they'll need to take another step up this week. A few observations:
- Goalie play just has to improve. I know that is obvious but the defensive effort Saturday was really good, they basically won all their matchups, but then any small mistake was a goal every time and you can't win like that. Even a 40% effort in net and that game isn't very close.
I was happy to see them settle into an offense. Kamish, Lindley and Olmstead played the whole game on attack, the first midfield was consistently Higgins, Poitras (who is hopefully healthy after taking a bad hit late) and James. Second was more consistent as well and they still found some time for Lindsey and Binney. It looked better.
That said the offense still needs to improve more. The attack isn't blessed with crazy dodging ability so midfield has to bring the production against the short sticks. James and Higgins had them and did ok but you're probably going to need more than three points in those matchups. Second midfield has to find a goal or two. This is a team that will have to manufacture its way to 11 or 12 each week. They don't have dominant players that can tear up defenses.
I'd say that the late clock ball handler probably should be someone more adept at scoring unassisted goals than Olmstead. 0 for 11 shooting is a yikes but it is also pretty predictable with what they're asking him to do.
I loved seeing the transition game working well (back to manufacturing goals).
Lastly the defense was so much more physical. They bring that every game and they'll be a problem.

Re: Loyola Greyhounds 2022
At the same time the defensive effort was legitimately very good and was let down by basically non-existent goalie play. The goalie is at 40% and suddenly Hopkins is struggling to even get to double digits. In theory that should be correctable.Loyolalax wrote: ↑Mon Feb 21, 2022 10:12 amVery optimistic for pl play.
Definitely need constantly good numbers from face off. Bailey really improved as the game went on.
Rutgers is a good opportunity for Bailey to do very well.

I don’t think it’s a big deal. Only soft people would be impacted by this being shared here in terms of what you shared. Keep the excitement an faith while staying grounded.loyola2025 wrote: ↑Fri Feb 18, 2022 2:01 pmNot sure what big secrets I let out about players being concerned, This whole forum is locker room talk. And will struggle with Georgetown, Lehigh and Army.laxbro11 wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 9:13 amLoyolalax Coach Toomey was concerned about the psche of the locker room. What would your take be?Loyolalax wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 7:13 am As a recent grad from Loyola and the program, what concerned me the most was the lack of physical play both offensively and defensively.
Add " and Hopkins " to that last sentence...
Had a good week of practice and now it is time to get back on the right track
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

Re: Loyola Greyhounds 2022
I have no idea who's going to win the faceoff battle between Loyola and Rutgers but Army has been pretty bad on FOs since Dan Grabher graduated in 2017 — so not sure I'd be boasting about going 15/27 against them. Army's last four seasons as a team:
2021: 46%
2020: 45%
2019: 33%
2018: 49%
Rutgers has not yet faced a good faceoff team to know if their unit is improved from last year. Savio has struggled somewhat so far this season but he seemed to figure something out in the second half against Hopkins.
