Who said I was? Reading is fundamental. I just think it’s lame crying about Rickys treatment as if anyone cares. Guess how much alums from 95 in care about the 80s and D3 era these days? It’s a selling point but it’s not relevant except for to people who wish they were as cool as Al Bundy. I’m sure a lot of Navy fans are grinding their teeth. They don’t need a petty douche throwing it in their face like a shrill bleeding 15yr old prima Donna girl.
People care about the football program on campus more than lacrosse these days and it’s been that way since the late 2000s. That’s a fact.

Yep. On the Yard & in the Brigade, enthusiasm & support for lax was equivalent in the spring to FB in the fall. That ended when Richie was tossed overboard. The support, interest & enthusiasm in the Brigade & junior alum classes is a perishable commodity, as the Brigade turns over every 4 years. Losing competitive non-conf rivalries with Gtown, MD, JHU, + the Army, all played on balmy Apr Saturdays before large crowds, with traveling hordes of Navy fans & hooligans, all diminished interest. Navy routinely lead the nation in attendance. Once the interest is gone, it's hard to recover.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 12:10 pm People care about the football program on campus more than lacrosse these days and it’s been that way since the late 2000s. Don't whine Old Salt, the arbiter of Fanlax will inject himself to save the day! On cue, here comes the jock sniffer--back from closing big time deals and cub scout meetings, LMAO!! Once you average 10+ Faxlax post/day, then you can complain...

Naturally, Navy needs to hope for MSM to have a great season. Especially, should they be on the bubble come Selection Sunday.
Re: Navy 2022
That sounds like Hobart, old salt. The 80’s featured huge crowds and a program that the Baltimore Sun ranked as high as #2 in their combined men’s lax poll(yes combined poll). Now, Hobart can’t giveaway tickets…the big Kraus/Simmons game has been so one sided, no one cares. Navy can right the ship, though.old salt wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 3:32 pmYep. No question. Hobart was something special under Dave Urick, so was Georgetown. At Navy, under this AD, the emphasis has been on other non-football sports. M&W b-ball & soccer, WLax. baseball are now on a par with or ahead of MLax in terms of interest within the Brigade. Changes to the D1 lax landscape has precluded the possibility of those April good weather, high attendance, mega-tailgate weekend non-conf games. To regain that level of interest, Navy needs to play .500 vs Loyola, Lehigh & Army, year-to-year, keep JHU & MD on the sched, & beat each occasionally enough to keep hope alive. Used to be competitive with MD & UNC, year to year. Not so much with JHU, but that might have changed. By 2003 & the ECAC years, I didn't think Richie could get us back to the 60's & 70's level. I hope to be wrong again.FMUBart wrote: ↑Fri Feb 11, 2022 4:42 pmThat sounds like Hobart, old salt. Wonder if we'll see Xavier Arline's debut today vs Mercer ? A way to get his feet wet might be to give him some runs on MF2 & invert him.

Reason to worry, until proven otherwise.
Mercer has proven (statistically) they can hold their own thus far. Winning in most stat categories. Coach seems to have them playing quite soundly. Their F/O man is very solid, they have cleared quite well, highly efficient on EMO, goalie save % is solid, they shoot a lot (pressure on our keeper), their opponents are o-fer on EMO.
Sure XA can be a game changer, and I like the idea of putting him behind.....but not yet...and not a slight on him at all. I'd be more apt to introduce him at the high righty/wing spot on attack, this can put pressure on the defensive guy covering him as the aj slide guy when 6 or 21 or 32 are climbing from X. And if they pass to XA, it puts him in his sweet spot for a shake&wiggle and go with not a lot of pressure on himself to draw and be a feeder/finisher from behind; build up to that as he gets more comfortable.
To put that added pressure on him to carry the load is something he can certainly manage internally, but it could also be a punch in the gut (to the team) if they try to use him and it does not work.

A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.

Harder & harder to get the elite players at many schools(especially Hobart). Chris Gray is a great example -- players are now able to enter the portal and go to the marquee programs that "missed" them originally. The PL is able to snare some elite players given their academic reputations. Hobart, once they got bounced from the PL, got pushed further down the D1 chain into irrelevancy. As Navy has unlimited "scholarships" they still have a chance to be impactful on the big stage; however, it is hard to get the stud offensive players--takes a special kid to strive for an SA, as you know. After being up a goal or 2 versus Navy, Coach Urick had one of his great one-liners: "Guys, we know Navy isn't going to quit; and if they do, we're ALL in trouble"! Unfortunately, lacrosse has gone the way of D1 football and the mega conferences domnating...The Ivies being the exception.
ACC, B1G & Ivy will dominate, with a sporadic appearance by the CAA or AE...

First off, RPI is a lame metric... so is SOS, especially since OOC is so "erratic". (B1G play NEC, or MAAC, besides Rutgers? etc, etc. And secondly, any Div. I coach that doesn't realize they are in a AQ, or stay home, situation/league, is blind. Remember, the ACC is NOT an AQ, yet all teams get invited. Think MSM has better game planning but going to face an equally quality scorer in Goldsmith.youthathletics wrote: ↑Sat Feb 12, 2022 7:56 am Reason to worry, until proven otherwise.

Re: Navy 2022
Great start by Navy (took a 7-0 lead into halftime and never looked back), good bounce back win. Good job in goal, with the ride, with ground balls, and nice to put 15 goals on the board.
Re: Navy 2022
Coming into the season, I was worried about Defensive Midfield with the graduation of last years top 2 x DM's.
It's encouraging to see 2 Sr's & 1 Jr who had runs on MF1 or MF2 as plebes, switch to DM & play so well.
#5 was the #3 DM last year & was the only returning DM with significant game experience at this critical position.
#5 has been good on GB's in heavy traffic & as fo wing.
#37 has looked strong in both games & today #47 joined the mix.
Fr #66 looked good too. He often seemed to be in the right place at the right time.
Soph #49 didn't play much today but played a lot last week.
They'll need to keep improving every week.
Today : #5 -- 3 GB / #37 -- 2 GB, 1 CT / #66 -- 3 GB / #47 - 1 CT

Ouch! Starting to worry that loss to MSM could factor huge should Navy be on the bubble come Selection Sunday. The Mountaineers did not look good at all against Delaware and Towson.
Re: Navy 2022
vs MSM Navy took 60 shots, and 30 shots were in goal. The MSM -goalie made 21 saves. That’s not good shooting. That’s why they lost.

Navy still has 7 potential quality win opportunities if they don't win the AQ :
Hofstra, High Point, JHU, Lehigh, Army, Loyola, & the PL tourney semi final.

Potential
Last time Navy got into the ncaa tourney was as an at-large in 2016.
They had top 20 wins over Loyola, Bucknell, Army & Air Force,
& losses to BU, JHU, MD & Army (in the PL semi-final).
Air Force having a good season got Navy off the bubble & into the tourney.

Where did they finish in the regular season PL that year? This year to many good teams in the PL. Army Lehigh top 2 teams this in the PL. Loyola Navy and Bucknell fight it out for the 3-4 seeds this year.old salt wrote: ↑Wed Feb 16, 2022 5:14 pmPotential
