These people are helping. Those encouraging masks usage aren’t helping. If more people acted like these folks, less people would have died.

From axioms piece this am. And it’s only going to get worse as locks leadership is being fashioned in the mold of hyper partisan idiots. (I have three CDC people on my block and my hood is crawling with them-they are not politicians or asking to be leaders, they’re in this for another reason and hate being told that they are the declarative answer and solution)
The big picture: This is still a nation very much in flux and clear communication from the top throughout this pandemic has proved ... challenging.
"We've always said these decisions are going to have to be made at the local level," CDC director Rochelle Walensky said during a briefing.
Hours later, however, White House spokeswoman Jen Psaki was asked about the CDC's universal indoor masking recommendation in schools. "This is where we would advise any American to follow the CDC," she said.
The bottom line: We've been here before where case counts dropped and masks came off.
It would behoove local leaders to define clear metrics when we do unmask so their communities understand what future threshold might require masks to come back, if — and when — COVID throws another curveball, experts said

Here’s my issue with the school topic, APS where I live specifically. The parents against non masking want 100% safety. That’s a unreasonable position that makes “negotiation” impossible. There’s no consideration of cost-benefit, probability, etc. and they mistake the point of masks completely which is befuddling for a lot of highly educated folks in my specific elementary school district. That’s also (maybe not equal to the opposing extreme) not a very civic minded or community way of thinking either.

When I read any of these debates on masks, I’m reminded that here in Florida, we have not forced kids to wear masks except for one brief period in the spring of 2020. Democrat in a few counties fought desantis for a while, but eventually they gave up.
You rarely see a mask on any Florida kid, certainly not on the west coast of Florida. If you do, the assumption is that child has a particular reason and need; meanwhile, every other kid here is living life as usual and have been for two years.
There’s a small catholic day school that is between my office and home and I drive by it every day. The playground outside almost always has maybe a dozen young kids on the jungle gym. They’re probably 5-8 years old. I have never once seen any of those kids with a mask, nor the teachers, as the kids tear around on the playground like little kids should, out of control, laughing, smiling, talking, learning , developing, having fun.
When I read how other states have dealt, forcing kids to mask up inside and outside, I shake my head in disbelief.

i question how we've used them as policy. and what we haven't done instead.
ftr, because of your wording on a post (studies showing ineffective), that i had already adjusted re: study conclusion, i suspected you weren't looking to be provided a link with your 2nd pass with that phrase, as it maybe wasn't what you wanted. (a study showing masks "ineffective" vs inconclusive). but of course you then decided to be your pleasant self.
https://www.acpjournals.org/doi/10.7326/m20-6817
so... where is that best study? or have i been given what i asked for?
Inconclusive is very different from conclusive ineffective results. So yes, still waiting on those, even though we provide conclusive results for other negative outcomes when asked. Not sure there will ever be a "best" study that would make you happy.

I have to be my pleasant self because a portion of the population is screwing the rest of us over. And I'm tired of it. And even if we had perfect policy and communications, it will still be flat out rejected by many.

1. With respect to schools I think the decision should be driven by those who have school aged kids in their immediate household-notwithstanding the social, transmission risk to other adults. So I’ll take anyone’s thoughts but they’re just outsider opinions with less skin in the game to me.
2. You do realize that Feb in FL weather is unlike most of the rest of the country right? Even the delta between Atlanta and Orlando (N Fl) is 10-15 degrees in this month (we’re running highs of 50-60) I’m heading to Disney w my kids (family, not divorced yet and she’s driving this trip Id rather take them to Peru or Istanbul even if they’re a little young for that) next weds and it’s around 70 for the following week we are there. That makes a massive difference in decision making and approach you hopefully understand.
Lastly, got a friend who took over as CEO of a CT based bank called Fieldpoint Private and is pushing hard into S FL and looking to finance Yachts and Private planes. Id encourage you to see what they can offer and get in their network as it would likely help your plane hangars if not directly financing or servicing you.

My position has been this: “The government” doesn’t care if you die. What the government doesn’t want are hospitals overrun and the economy not to be disrupted. No chance of hospitals being overrun or the economy seizing up, then the government won’t tell you how to respond….you on your own. Since I have always considered myself on my own and basically just want the government to protect my rights, I make decisions on how best to protect my friends and family based on what I have learned while living on this planet. Never realized we knew nothing about how to slow down the spread of germs until the government told us in 2020…..can’t save them all and can’t fix stupid. Let these clowns keep hanging around people with no protection as the virus rages. When community spread is low, no problem with kids going maskless. If my wearing a mask, means kids can’t get back to normal, I am all for it. I had my turn.Farfromgeneva wrote: ↑Thu Feb 10, 2022 7:58 am Here’s my issue with the school topic, APS where I live specifically. The parents against non masking want 100% safety. Thanks. I will. I don’t know them; we generally only deal in super-mids and heavy jets. The biggest players are a CT a lender called Global Jet Capital…they are very good. PNC and BofA are aggressive lenders as well. Smaller lenders are Airfleet Capital and Dorr.
If you’re a qualified borrower with a private bank account, most private banks like Northern Trust, Bessemer, Goldman, etc will lend to those folks, even when the banks know nothing about planes.
Today is mildly dangerous if you borrow, because planes like real estate are selling above book value and ask price….the last time that occurred, there was a five year hangover after everyone woke up. So I tell friends don’t borrow…if you can afford it, buy it for cash.
