Suffolk 2022

Post by LI13 »

Getting the thread started for 2022.

My Tigers open the season at Mount Sinai on March 23 in a battle of defending LI champs. Should be fun!

Does anybody have the pre-season seedings.... from what I can tell looks like Division 2 might actually be tougher than Division 1 this year?

With Smithtown West moving down, probably.

All I can say based on the schedules that have been released are that the top 8 in D1 (in no particular order) are

Ward Melville
Northport
Smithtown East
Sachem North
Connetquot
Bay Shore
Commack
Huntington

But you'd probably have guessed at least 7 of those without that.

As someone who departed LI before there were seedings I would appreciate it if someone could explain to me how they work and what the point of them is. Thanks.

The coaches essentially vote on them. Because lacrosse uses power points rather than a traditional league-based model, the preseason seedings determine the schedule. The higher your seed, the harder schedule you play. The top eight seeded teams are guaranteed to play each other and the top seeded teams will not play the teams at the very bottom.

Correct, except Northport is on top in D1. The rest of them are right.

Seems odd that Penfield would come all the way from Rochester to play one game. I wonder if they have another in the area.

(Thanks, LI 13, for the seeding info).

They might have another game, but it doesn't appear to be against a Suffolk team. And the Section 5 team schedules haven't been posted to laxnumbers yet. But Penfield has come down to play West Islip as a standalone game before, so I wouldn't be surprised.

For those non-believers:

Mount Sinai 12
Northport 4

6G for Spallina

And it could have been much worse. Mustangs are the real deal, and our kids were pretty sloppy and never got into the flow of the game.

Replay is on youtube. Was very impressed with Garden City's offense; they've got some good shooters and they played a relatively clean game in the settled offense. WM got the first two, then GC got six of the next seven to seize control of the game. WM got it back to one a couple of times, including 8-7 early in the fourth, but then Cascadden responded with a goal right off the face-off to kill the momentum.

A harbinger that a terrific season awaits. Great to watch two traditionally strong teams kick off the season.
