Big East 2022

Post by DU-fan »

We should be back to normal Big East conference schedules.

So far 2022 Rosters are:
Denver https://denverpioneers.com/sports/mens-lacrosse/roster
Marquette https://gomarquette.com/sports/mens-lacrosse/roster

Does anyone know where the Big East tournament is hosted in 20202?

Alright I love optimism but who voted for St Johns? I have to know. No judgment as I assume there’s some motive beyond belief in it.

Hate to say it but looks like
GT
UD/Nova
Marquette/Prov
SJU

About the same as it’s generally been other than a 2-3yr run by Amplo at Marquette for a while other than GT/UD looking to have switched.

Nova could be very good or mediocre with so many moving parts and hard to replace Khan and Campbell.

Prov has looks like two offensive threats in Grillo and Edwards with everyone else graduating and burgdorf moving on so they could look like last years SHU, unfortunately for Edwards.

No idea on Marquette with new coach coming off Covid but net outflow of kids. Depends on how good HC becomes.

SJU - ? Do the keep the program?
Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah

I’m hearing Georgetown is hosting the Big East tournament next year. I think for the first time?
New stadium and great city for teams and fans to travel to.

I think Campbell at Villanova is a regular senior this year?

Rumor has it that the incoming St John's freshman class does have some size which would be a nice change of pace.

USA Lacrosse Magazine’s preseason top D1 position players came out today. Obviously pre season awards mean a whole lot less than post season but still Interesting that the BE had 3 of the 5 recipients. Denver’s Jack Hannah Midfielder and Georgetown’s Will Bowen Defenseman and Owen McElroy Goalie.

Nice early wins by the BE over hopkins and penn state. last chance for Big Ten to win a meaningful against against the BE is Denver vs Ohio State.

If you take Georgetown Denver and Nova vs Maryland and pick any other two from BIG 10, I would say the 9 game final tally would be pretty darn close.

Wow! Could anyone see Georgetown, through the conference tournament, going undefeated in conference play this year?

They’re way ahead of everyone else, right now.
I saw Penn’s team live, no way I thought anyone could
hold them to 8 goals.

I don’t see it, Villanova, certainly not Denver the way
they looked against Duke.
And Halley has not completely recovered yet.

Few teams nationwide have benefited as much as Villanova, from the transfer portal.
Corrado is all in this year, with a team full of seniors, augmented by these 5th covid year players.
The Pios this weekend, to determine who is number two, has Villanova closed that gap.
Then the final weekend of the year, the big matchup against Georgetown.

Nova wins and then they and Hoyas holds serve and the season finale is for top seed in BET. I am not saying Nova would be favored but I continue to believe they are most misranked team in country (relative to my personal sense of how dangerous they are not based on ytd results before i get slammed). Agree we will learn a lot from the Denver Nova matchup this weekend.

Big East Tournament teams are set, but the games on Friday could change the current seeding.

I am going to assume:
#1 Georgetown
#2 Denver
#3 Villanova
#4 Marquette

But technically, if Villanova beats Georgetown and Denver beats Marquette, there will be a 3 way tie with 4-1 records and I believe goal differential will be the tie breaker. Georgetown beat Denver by 8. I think Villanova could be the #1 seed if they beat Georgetown by more than 8 and Georgetown would drop to #2 seed and Denver drops to the #3 seed. And if Marquette beats Denver, they will both be 2-3 in the Big East and Marquette would be the #3 seed and Denver drops to #4. We will see how the Friday night games go. Anything is possible.

Thursday May 5th - CBSN
5:30 PM ET - #1 Georgetown/Villanova vs. #4 Marquette/Denver
8:30 PM ET - Denver/Marquette vs. Villanova/Georgetown

Saturday May 7th - CBSSN
4:30 PM ET Finals

Current standings:
Georgetown (12 - 1) 4 - 0
Villanova (8 - 4) 3 - 1
Denver (8 - 5) 3 - 1
Marquette (4 - 9) 2 - 2
Providence (5 - 8) 0 - 4
St. John's (2 - 11) 0 - 4

Remain games:
Friday, April 29
Georgetown University vs. Villanova University
7:00 P.M.
Villanova, Pa. (Conf.)

Marquette University vs. University of Denver
9:00 P.M.
Denver, Colo. (Conf.) Stats

Saturday, April 30
Providence College vs. St. John's University
1:00 P.M.
Queens, N.Y. (DaSilva Memorial Field) (Conf.)
