Not sure there was ever confirmation of this, but Jared in the lax saturday blowout against Duke looked like he tweaked something towards the end of the game and didn't seem 100% on Monday (yes, UVA still 100% earned the trophy). I hope he can finish this game with a natty.

Congrats to Jared Bernhardt who joins Cornell's Bob Rule as the only two college athletes I've ever heard of who achieved National championships in two sports. Bob was Cornell's 1st team All America lacrosse goalie in 1971 and the Big Red's backup hockey goalie in 1969-70.

Jared Mitchell played for both the LSU Tigers baseball team and the LSU Tigers football team. He was awarded the College World Series Most Outstanding Player for his play during the 2009 College World Series which was won by the LSU Tigers. He also played on the 2007 LSU BCS National Championship football team as a wide receiver. He is a rare two-sport college national champion along with LSU baseball and football teammate Chad Jones.

Not at the D1 level, but there were 3-4 guys who won NCs in hockey & lacrosse for Middlebury in the late 90s/early aughts.

obviously, national championship is great. somehow, it's possible he has another year of eligibility. i think for div 2 as it goes by semesters.

if he does work possible nfl workout next, i really liked the cut he made on the 50+ yd td. and his decision making to find a hole on plays. the saints have had a working prototype the last several years, and offenses evolve. he may be in some team's wheelhouse.

on that path, i'd prognosticate he hooks up with an elite level trainer for nfl types and puts on 10-15 pounds as well while trying to maintain quickness. he will have to work on his hands. i'm assuming he'll do routes fine.

He's done work and will get drafted. Just a matter of how good his hands are and what round he gets picked.

Needless to say I'm happy Bernhardt and his Dogs won it all but I find the NFL talk and Bernhardt a bit of a stretch. The only reason one would stay tuned into that game last night was because they had an interest in it outside of football, it was an awful game and I wouldn't call Valdosta State's defense stellar. Did the Dogs even punt once (I don't think so)? I recognize that Bernhardt is a very good athlete but the NFL is a whole lot different game than the level he played at this season (was hurt quite a bit too). Am pulling for him but I wouldn't put any money on it based on what I watched last night.
Meanwhile the Wisconsin Badgers women's volleyball team beat Nebraska for their first National Title last night, they were playing at the same time as Ferris was running all over the hapless Blazers. Now that was real, and intense, competition. Here are the scores of that best of five series; 25-22 N, 31-29 W, 25-23 W, 25-23 N, 15-12 W. No idea why the fifth game is only played to 15. Was fantastic.

Could see the Patriots or Texans giving him a post-draft tryout and/or a shot on the practice squad, perhaps as a special teamer or return specialist. No one is questioning his athletic ability. But there is a reason only three D2 guys got drafted last year and they were all physical freaks who were already NFL ready in terms of size. Two WR/TE types who were 6'5'' and 6'7'', respectively (can't teach that type of size as a red zone target), and a 6'4''/240 linebacker. Bernhardt is extremely unlikely to be drafted with his physical profile and given the competition level he faced.

Yep, the volleyball was awesome. Not sure how Valdosta's ineptness has anything to do with Jared. He would have run for 400 yards if he wasnt hurt. His coach said he could play for anyone including Alabama. Nobody is saying Jared is a first rounder, but he has NFL athleticism and he's got good size for a receiver as well.

i agree. i don't see him getting drafted, or at least not before the 6th or 7th round. which is pretty close to free agent.

also didn't like how he caught passes on the sideline at half if i can parse it all. that's over the top, but he will need to learn how to fight off pressure to get off the line, @ the catch, learn how to catch, do routes (which he could easily pick up), and show skill n other ways. and bulk up while not losing quickness. all vs elite atgletes who have done it. that's a full plate. i'm not wagering for, but i won't wager against him.

congrats to wisconsin.
