Former Navy Football Player Brian Bourgeois, Commanding Officer of SEAL Team 8, Tragically Dies in Training Incident

Bourgeois received his commission from the United States Naval Academy in May 2001 and humbly served the Navy and Naval Special Warfare community for over 20 years. He was a four-year member of the Navy football team and earned three varsity letters.

The Navy football team will honor Bourgeois on Saturday in several ways. The team will run out with a SEAL Team 8 flag along with the traditional American, Navy and Marine Corps flags. There will be a #13 home blue jersey adorned with two SEAL Team 8 patches placed prominently on the Navy sideline and senior wide receiver Michael Salisbury and sophomore wide receiver Jayden Umbarger will wear SEAL Team 8 patches on their uniform. The patches were given to Navy wide receivers coach Mick Yokitis, a 2006 Naval Academy graduate, by Bourgeois earlier this year.

Would love to find out the real story on fake punt, just a classic mystery.

Fake punt for the ages:

The 15-play drive that bridged the third and fourth quarters and resulted in the field goal to make it 17-13 was an epic march that was defined by an epic play. Linebacker Diego Fagot, the up-back on the punt team, took the snap and ran 4 yards around left end on fourth-and-1 from the Navy 34-yard line to keep the drive going. It was the signature play of a remarkable game.

Here's the funny thing, though: it shouldn't have even happened.

Fagot told CBS Sports reporter Jamie Erdahl after the game that he wasn't expecting the snap yet still turned it upfield to move the chains. Coach Ken Niumatalolo confirmed Fagot's statement on the CBS broadcast.

"It was a mistake. Sometimes you get lucky and players make plays, and he made a great play today," Niumatalolo said.

Mistake or not, it'll go down as one of the best plays in the rivalry's history.

It looks like Xavier is a key component in Navy's 2 QB system for the next 2 years. Given the wear & tear - it takes 2.

Hopefully, today saved KN & IJ 's jobs for the next 2 years, as this young team continues to develop & the AAC 3.0 softer sched comes in '23.
The Supe needs to stop the AD from doing anything rash (again).

Maybe Xavier will still have enough lax muscle memory to play in the spring of his senior year.

Not to rain on anybody's parade :)

But the playclock was at zero before the ball was snapped,

Sounds like the center (plebe) saw the call change:

Fagot: My first reaction was I almost lost the game for us. If I don't catch that ball it's rolling into the end zone. I looked at the snapper, who is just a freshman, and I said, why did you snap it to me? He said he thought I checked to that play.

Some big breaks, for sure.

But also, 60 minutes of much higher energy than
the other side,

helps in getting those breaks.

True. but I like it, for the most part. It aligns more with what Army has been doing for years. Many of the OOC games are against the traditional middle of the pack teams....they are competitive teams, and primers/barometers for conference play; which in the end is all that matters, especially in the PL. Coach also knows his team best, after losing damned near an entire starting line up of seniors to graduation in 2021.

Army top two OOC: Rutgers and Cuse and a possible third in Cornell (Army PL bye week)
Navy top two OOC: HPU and JHU (Navy PL Bye Week)

Given B1G & PL scheduling constraints, it may no longer be possible to sched both MD & JHU every year. :(

Maybe the old ball coach doesn’t want to play both.

The AD's loved the gate when both games could be played on good weather weekend dates.
The B1G & PL should front load their conf scheds to allow JHU & MD to play both Navy & Loyola on good weather, mid to late season weekends.
Big crowds in hotbed state. Massive tailgate rivalries. Attractive tv matchups.

They should be damned close to 100% vaxxed, not sure vaccination status has much value anymore.
