Boston College 22 Northwestern 17

Post by wlaxnut »

This was a real rock fight. Very chippy physical affair. It’s rare to see teams get even mildly nasty in women’s lacrosse. The last time I saw such a game was last year‘s ACC final between Boston College and North Carolina. The chippiness there escalated until Kara Klages was tagged with a red card. In any event, this was a very entertaining game. Some spectacular goals were scored on both sides. In the end, Boston College's potent offense overwhelmed the Wildcats. They just couldn’t hang with the big dogs.

There were some controversial calls and non-calls. The refs totally blew a call at the end of the first half when they ruled Lindsey McKone‘s goal good. On the replay it was clear that she fired the shot after time had expired.

It’s a good thing that it didn’t factor into the end result the way it did with Syracuse and Northwestern earlier in the season.

Also--the camerawork was brutal at times as evidenced here.

This is a point of contention with me frequently with women’s lacrosse broadcasts. They really need to improve in this area if the sport wants to be taken seriously.

BC's Kenzie Kent is more amazing each week. She’s got such vision, and presence of mind, and poise. There was one play when a few seconds after she lost the ball from a stick check with two defenders on her she sees an open Taylor Walker and hits her for a goal. Also, she scored a couple of times while falling down.

She finished with five goals and four assists. She is a very dangerous player and one that has to factor into any opponents defensive game plan. But if you faceguard her you've got Apuzzo, and if you faceguard the both of them you've got Arsenault, who smashed her career game high of 5 goals in a game by scoring 7 vs the 'Cats.

BC will face a big test when they visit North Carolina in 2 weeks. We'll see what Jen Levy game plans for the Eagles. (Or maybe it's UNC that will be facing the big test. We shall see.)

NU has given up 110 goals in seven games. An average of 15 a game is a problem.
