I hate these verkakte "color rush" uniforms. The "throw back" and "alternate" uniforms suck just as bad. I remember the good old days when I could turn on a football game and could expect to see a teams home or away uniform based on where they were playing. The home team generally wore the colors and the road team wore their predominately white uniforms. (Dallas typically wore their whites no matter where they played but they were the exception to the rule.) Nowadays who knows which meshugana uniform a given team will don for a given game. Then watching the game I'm constantly having to pull focus and reestablish which team I'm watching because I don't recognize the uniform.

For those like me who long for those good old days of classic uniforms, here's a fun look back at the excellent NFL weekly highlight show "This Week in Pro Football" from 1972.

Some of the bobo Patriots fans and media up here in Boston are falling all over themselves about Mac Jones and the Pats, like they’re right back into the midst of the dynasty and last year was an illusion. HE HASN’T EVEN PLAYED A PLAYOFF GAME YET!!! If the playoffs started today, the 6-4 Pats would be a 6 seed.

How many NFL teams have never moved or changed their name? Off the top of my head I can think of the Miami Dolphins, Dallas Cowboys, Seattle Seahawks, Buffalo Bills. There are a few teams that changed their team name but never moved from the original state like the New York Jets (nee Titans). Some that moved but never changed their nickname, like the Raiders, Cardinals, Rams et al.

Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers and New York Giants to name three. All were charter members of the NFL.

Plenty of others who I'm almost certain are the way they came into the league - Atlanta Falcons, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Minnesota Vikings, New Orleans Saints, Philadelphia Eagles, San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Ditto for Houston and Jacksonville (ironically two teams who have never been to a Super Bowl along with the Lions)

Just checking them one by one, the Chicago Bears came into the league as the Decatur Staleys in 1920. They changed their name to the Chicago Staleys in ‘21 and then finally settled on the Chicago Bears in ‘22.

It will be enjoyable to research the other teams. Most of the ones you came up with are spot on.

Learning some interesting history. The Detroit Lions were the Portsmouth Spartans from 1928–1933 and played in Ohio before moving to Detroit and changing their name to the Lions in 1934.

So the Pats shut out Atlanta last night 25-0. The bragging and chest pounding from New England is getting louder and more insufferable with each win.

As a Falcons fan....I am distraught with grief, they are such an enigma of a team.

I hear you. I can’t imagine Falcons fans have fully recovered from that awful Super Bowl choke. I would say Seahawks fans are right there with the Falcons fans. Both teams had the Patriots by the neck and let them escape. One of these days the Falcons will get some measure of payback hopefully.

Seahawks was on Carroll not jamming Beast Mode down their throats instead trying to pass. Falcons were lucky to hold on in the NFC championship vs the packers if folks recall. They didn’t have good coaching and Matt Ryan is sadly overpriced and overrated.

Kyle Pitts is the real deal though. Too bad Ryan will drag his career down

A headline seen in the Boston Globe after the Pats 36-13 win over the Tennessee Titans yesterday:

"Mac Jones can take the hits, make the plays, manage the game — and play in the cold"

The low temperature for the game yesterday was 37 degrees with light intermittent snow showers and winds gusting up to 7mph out of the wsw-sw. This is conclusive evidence that Mac Jones can now play in cold weather??

THIS is one of the reasons I always root against this team--the chest pounding arrogance and pride by their toadies in the local (and national) media. The main reason of course being their degenerate cheating, but the insufferable pride keeps the embers hot for their downfall.

Come down to my hood and listen to the talk about UGA. By a bunch of folks who went to Kennesaw St, Mercer, Ga St, Georgia Perimeter, no college, etc.

I can’t wait for Alabama to beat them in the SEC championship and ideally Cincinnati beating them in Rd 1 of the playoffs.
