It stands to reason that the field was more likely than 50. I based in on AA status as a senior and only 1,2, 3 team and USILA

ok. so more likely that aa's were > 50 rated, not that any player was more likely to be aa outside of top 50.

i recently looked at 2021 aa's from the 2018 class. it's skewed as the ivies didn't play, but something like 2 guys in the top 45+ were aa. 1 or 2 more just under 50.

7 were aa outside of top 100 (not rated).

best guy in the class probably? handley @ 57.

I don't think it's fair to call Salcido a miss. He redshirted, spent two more seasons mostly on the bench, then exploded for great junior and senior seasons. I remember seeing his High School highlights and being really intrigued, because he was explosive and did everything for his high school team. But, he was small and not from a big HS lacrosse program.

that's quite a list of nr guys.
properly stratified, it's probably close to something like 4 of the top 10(11), then 4 for the next group of 40, then 4-5 depending for every 50 guys deep to 250 or so, if guys got rated that far down. and then some aa stragglers below 250.

and that's not including the top players in a school's class that go to marquette, vermont or colgate or wherever where their chances of making 1st 3 teams of aa are much slimmer regardless of ability or performance. but will never be rated "top 100".

Kinda. If a guy has no impact on his college team for 3 seasons, the people evaluating him in HS were probably right to put him outside the top 100. Kudos to Salcido for continuing to work and get better.

Kinda. If a guy has no impact on his college team for 3 seasons, the people evaluating him in HS were probably right to put him outside the top 100. Kudos to Salcido for continuing to work and get better.

Either way good for him but with the circular logic of recruits getting top 100 status often for the school they go to then you wouldn’t expect many to be high level AAs as underclassmen of course.

I think this kid should’ve gotten more attention than he has (and wish we could’ve ponied up like Jax did to get him)

Kinda. If a guy has no impact on his college team for 3 seasons, the people evaluating him in HS were probably right to put him outside the top 100. Kudos to Salcido for continuing to work and get better.

Either way good for him but with the circular logic of recruits getting top 100 status often for the school they go to then you wouldn’t expect many to be high level AAs as underclassmen of course.

Meaning 51 to 1,000….may have been worse than 51 so I went conservative. Posted about it on the old lax forum.

It stands to reason that the field was more likely than 50. I based in on AA status as a senior and only 1,2, 3 team and USILA

ok. so more likely that aa's were > 50 rated, not that any player was more likely to be aa outside of top 50.

i recently looked at 2021 aa's from the 2018 class. it's skewed as the ivies didn't play, but something like 2 guys in the top 45+ were aa. 1 or 2 more just under 50.

7 were aa outside of top 100 (not rated).

Not following; that was IL with that "ranking"...and I'm certainly on record that I don't think they get those right, beyond the top 10, maybe 20, each year as very likely, if healthy, to be strong contributors wherever they go. Beyond that it's a crapshoot.

That said, they even whiff in the top 10. UVA for instance had the #1 incoming tender that year, ranked 8th overall recruit all positions, but as it turned out, I don't think he was in the top 10 tenders for that particular class. Maybe not top 20. Happens.

The top 25. I like to look at which players were among the top 25 seniors in college as a barometer and which players outperformed their ranking relative to the others......

Case Mathies was not a “bust”…95 goals and 95 assists for 190 points in 66 starts (76 games) is not a player that wasn’t any good. Devin Dwyer was good too….3rd team AA his senior year.

Neubaur had 3 consecutive years of 30+ goals. I watched him in college a lot. He was good.

Not sure I agree with your Bust assessments. Devin Dwyer was one of the best attackmen in the Ivy League. Not sure his final stats but he was a four year starter and had close to 200 points in his career. Great QB on that offense.

Tom Moore was a monster but had some injuries at Denver. Transferred twice (Jacksonville and Binghamton) but ended up with a 70+ point season his senior year. He was impossible to stop. Under the radar guy.

And Brian Sherlock transferred to Loyola and was one of the most productive middies for four years on some terrific teams.

I’m sure you’ll hear about more of these “busts” as the day goes on. Tough assessments imo.

Pat Berkery injured his knee in the Under Armour game and was never the same. As much as I liked Connor Reed, not sure how he can be a hit while some other guys were bust (dwyer and Mathies each had close to 200 points in their careers.). Mathies didn’t play to his rankings but if he were #15 in stead of #1 he may have been a “boom”. He was very productive in college despite not having an offense built around him. I used to argue this point with a friend.

Duvnjak and Dwyer were studs on an underperforming team....Both would have been AA if they played in the ACC...Now they are probably First Team All-Wall Street....

Not following; that was IL with that "ranking"...and I'm certainly on record that I don't think they get those right, beyond the top 10, maybe 20, each year as very likely, if healthy, to be strong contributors wherever they go. Beyond that it's a crapshoot.

That said, they even whiff in the top 10. UVA for instance had the #1 incoming tender that year, ranked 8th overall recruit all positions, but as it turned out, I don't think he was in the top 10 tenders for that particular class. Maybe not top 20. Happens.

The top 25. I like to look at which players were among the top 25 seniors in college as a barometer and which players outperformed their ranking relative to the others......

Right, and these are rankings, not ratings. Kelly was one of the best college middies his senior year. Sure, he was not a multi year first team all american, but hardly anybody from this list was. People take these rankings to imply that a top 20 player will dominate at the college level, forgetting that there are 3+ classes of players older than them already in college that were ranked high and players that were coming in under the radar who were just as good or late bloomers.
