OK, now, after reading your explanation I'm a little more confused. How to you compute the "Social, Academic and Winning Tradition Rating" stats?Matnum PI wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:40 pmThough it used to be pretty darn close. Every team used to have a Social, an Academic, and a Winning Tradition Rating and the ratings were adjusted every season. The Social and Academic Ratings were done randomly (which was imperfect) but the Winning Tradition was under each coaches control and, for obvious reasons, the Winning Tradition had a heavier weight than the others. And... the teams with the best offering to a potential recruit picked first. We did this for years until (i think in 2014) we shifted to what we do today. And, frankly, I don't think it mattered. We're in the middle of the second round and people are still grabbing top players.

Re: 2022 Fantasy Lacrosse Draft
Reversing the pick order so the top team gets the first pick, 2nd best team gets second pick, etc. makes sense to me. What makes even more sense is having the Draft Pick based on the previous season 2021(which is weighted 100%) as well as the previous season 2020 (which is weighted 90%) as well as the previous season 2019 (which is weighted 80%) etc. So the #1 pick isn't based solely on the previous season but the previous seasons with the previous season being weighted the heaviest.

The Social and Academic ratings were picked randomly. It was just a silly thing. the Winning Tradition Rating was calculated very similarly to what I just typed above.

Re: 2022 Fantasy Lacrosse Draft
Logic being that top recruits go to teams with a winning tradition, cool cats to hang with, and a Goldman spot when you finish your 5th year at Duke Drafting is hard no matter the position but it's easier to miss at 20 than 1.

I like it…..sort of how the NBA went to weighting the ping pong balls and going to a lottery after teams tanked for Duncan.Matnum PI wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:58 pmMatnum PI wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:48 pm Having the Draft Pick based on the previous season rankings 2021(which is weighted 100%) as well as the previous season rankings 2020 (which is weighted 90%) as well as the previous season rankings 2019 (which is weighted 80%) etc. So the #1 pick isn't based solely on the previous season but the previous seasonS with the previous season being weighted the heaviest.

Re: 2022 Fantasy Lacrosse Draft
I agree, this type of weighting helps balance year over year results I think this is positive reinforcement for competing year over year. The randomness Typical notes in the NBA is nice, no guarantee but a chance at the top spots.Matnum PI wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:58 pmMatnum PI wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:48 pm Having the Draft Pick based on the previous season rankings 2021(which is weighted 100%) as well as the previous season rankings 2020 (which is weighted 90%) as well as the previous season rankings 2019 (which is weighted 80%) etc. So the #1 pick isn't based solely on the previous season but the previous seasonS with the previous season being weighted the heaviest.
Re: 2022 Fantasy Lacrosse Draft
TLD, that makes total sense. Although, do you thing anyone really tries to tank in this league at the end of the year to enhance their draft position? Also, how was the draft order determined this year, reverse order of finish?Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 9:05 pmI like it…..sort of how the NBA went to weighting the ping pong balls and going to a lottery after teams tanked for Duncan.Matnum PI wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:58 pmMatnum PI wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 8:48 pm Having the Draft Pick based on the previous season rankings 2021(which is weighted 100%) as well as the previous season rankings 2020 (which is weighted 90%) as well as the previous season rankings 2019 (which is weighted 80%) etc. So the #1 pick isn't based solely on the previous season but the previous seasonS with the previous season being weighted the heaviest.

Reverse regular season rankings which take record and points into account.
Re: 2022 Fantasy Lacrosse Draft
I don't think anyone actually tries to tank. Drafting is hard. Great lacrosse players don't always produce great fantasy points. But the NBA analogy is for the pros, bottom teams get the top picks. In college sports, good players usually choose winning teams.
Re: 2022 Fantasy Lacrosse Draft
Agree 100%! And great coaches produce winning teams and attract top players. Winning begets winning!PALax11 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 9:15 pm I don't think anyone actually tries to tank. Re: 2022 Fantasy Lacrosse Draft
These are the previous Champions. It doesn't show every team's finish for each season but we have this info and we can easily create the spreadsheet which shows the winning-est programs, in order. Bottomline, for the sake argument, let's say, currently, FCA has the winning-est program. Andrew McAdorey would've gone to his team, not the worst team from the 2021 season. I understand we discussed this many years ago and we concluded that this wasn't fair to the bottom teams but, much as we spoke to many years ago, it also doesn't mirror reality. Maybe we should have a revote on this after the draft. Maybe...

Just looked at the previous Champs. If Greenie beat DU in the championship last year, why aren't they drafting 20th and 19th, respectively?Matnum PI wrote: ↑Wed Oct 20, 2021 9:27 pm These are the previous Champions. Team PATalk 100% disagrees with this assertion! Show the stats!! Pretty sure we are ahead by 1 playoff appearance But also not surprised.... Greenie taking it home recently, Championships are what really matter!

Best teams depend on aggregate recruiting results of each class
Re: 2022 Fantasy Lacrosse Draft
Seeing as NC Lax University has been in 3 of the last 6 championship games, but only won one, I feel like this makes me the "Maryland" of the league...haha
