I’d love to be able to pick a top 5 freshman without having to research by picking early for once
It's not as easy as it looks. Look at last year. O'Neill was an obvious pick. I picked Hiltz at #2, but was considering Brendan Grimes. I'm glad I didn't pick Grimes. He may become a good scorer, but at #2 you want more. #6 and #7 were Cole Herbert and Mac Costin. Nick DeMaio and T.J. Malone were top 5 picks in 2020. Now, you may be saying to yourself, "well I'm not stupid enough to pick one of those guys", but sometimes it's hard to make the right choice. Btw, I got Pat Kavanagh at #10 that year.
It’s defo never easy.. I got Mullins 3rd round and carraway maybe 5th Round (might be the other way around) and points wise they will be bigger points scorers than most players in the game over 4 years as they both played from freshman… I still don’t think im over them graduating yet haha.

I was gutted when you took Kavanagh as I had begun to dream he was somehow missed

I think a big part of it that’s ignored is half the top players all go to the same teams and therefore they can’t all see the Field and ball as much as say Sowers at Princeton…. He was the perfect combo of amazing player at a weaker team.. at Duke he didn’t quite hit the same monster numbers for that reason.
This is not the case. It’s a narrative that isn’t quite true. Duke had a bad offense with bad midfield play and no inside finisher on the field much. “Give the ball to Michael late in the clock and to make something happen” isn’t good offense. On such a strong team, his numbers should actually have been better… all of those weapons… assists should pile up easily.

Agreed on Mencke. Trader is TBD. High risk.
I'm skeptical on Trader as well, at least as a big time college scorer.

I think Eric Spanos in the 2nd round is a steal. He's a violent scorer. I seriously considered him at #12.
I recall similar discussions on Myles Jones and he worked out okay...
Jones played fall ball. Trader might end up being great for the lax team. He may also be a great SSDM. He was way too risky for me to consider at #12.
I 100% agree there were less risky choices. He could be an excellent d-middie for 4 years or end up not playing at all. I figure if he plays, he wants the offensive glory of breaking down a defense and putting up points. I can just picture him running through lazy arms checks after blowing by defenders.
His upside is definitely very high. The wild card is clearly football. It is very hard to do both really well in college at the same time. Did Jared Bernhardt or Dox Aitken ever do both at the same time?
Mark McNeill played both football and lacrosse at UNC.......and was a great D middie. That said, I think Dante has way more upside potential offensively than Mark, he is a dynamic dodger.

Don’t tell Mark he is in the past! He’s still playing. He and that undersized SSDM at UNC were fierce. That “small” dude was an absolutely stud. He was as wide as he was tall. I loved watching him play.

Off-topic but... Whatever. DU-Fan, this is kind of funny. Who would win in a sprint, Liza Kelly (Head Coach) or Brice Queener (Assistant Coach)?

Ran first line mid for Princeton in their scrimmage vs. Towson. Had 2 or 3 goals I believe
