It's literally the other way around. Monarchial England was designed to protect the rights of the individual----the King. The Constitution said "bollocks to that", and made laws that applied to the collective. ALL men. Not just the few chosen by a King.
Wait... wasn't it Mrs Obama that informed us that America was never great in the first place? At least until her hubby was elected she was never proud to live in America. I grew up as a naïve patriotic son of a ww2 vet. I always believed America was great. It took 3 years in the military to beat that concept the hell out of me. Is America great?? who the hell knows? it is now just a subjective meaningless point that has a different response from who ever you ask the question. I was always so very proud that I had the opportunity to serve my country. I am forever disappointed and angry at how the US government used us as pawns in their little popularity contest game. I will always love my fellow soldiers. For as long as I live I will have a great deal of contempt for the people that gave us our walking orders. Is America great? Our people sure are it is our government that drags us down into the gutter of reprobates and criminals pretending to be patriots. man I sure am grumpy now.
I hear you, Doc. Our fathers risked their keisters to stem the rising tide of fascism. I can imagine how pissed and disappointed would be, as I'm sure your father would be as well, knowing the current C of C is a draft dodging quisling and an inveterate apologist for some of the vilest dictators extant.

No. They jumped so quickly and incorrectly because they're American partisans, and our system for both obtaining and properly interpreting news is broken. It has been for a long time.

The right does the same thing----it's called propaganda. They both start with a conclusion "MAGA hats are bad", and work their way toward the "evidence".

Blue wave didn't materialize because of gerrymandering.

If you're a right winger in America, you better get your *hit together in the next few years. All the right and center has done---both D's and R's---is use government to line the pocket of the 1%. For 30 years.

Example? Name a major piece of legislation that helps the bottom 50% of earners in America that was passed by a Republican Congress. And not just some of them---all of them. From there, how's our budget looking? Can Republican point and say: "see, this is how you run the government. We pay our bills, and we cut spending every year, keeping it fit, trim, and out of the way of capitalism".

Nope. R's are WORSE than D's when it comes to bloated spending. So guess what that does? It makes Bernie and Cortez more appealing. You've trained a generation of America to NOT pay our bills, and to borrow recklessly. So they say "who cares about how we pay for this. We just want it"

I think it is hard to argue a blue wave did not take place when the dems picked up 40 house seats in a heavily gerrymandered election.

The war on Christmas? The war on religion? The war on marriage? Just mention abortion and you get foaming at the mouth. Global warming is an attack on capitalism and is redistribution of wealth. Universal healthcare is an attack on capitalism and is redistribution of wealth. Supporting farmers is an attack on capitalism and... well we should support our farmers and rural America. Immigrants are attacking our way of life and taking our jobs. Blacks are going to steal your woman - interracial marriage shouldn't be legalized.

Virtually every single conservative and Republican talking point in the past 5+ decades is about an attack on their way of life. The right has perfected fear-mongering and victimization. It's hilarious, but extremely sad, projection.

The left comes up with lofty ideals and goals which are semi-unrealistic. The right just doubles down on defense most of the time, which does win elections.

The MAGA-wearing conservatives may be getting punched in the mouth here and there, but they aren't getting lynched by the dozens or hundreds, getting tortured and set on fire for being gay, getting murdered for being trans, getting sterilized en masse for being native or being a woman, or any more of many horrific acts. Then you have the less lethal victimization, like not being able to vote, own land, get mortgages, marry someone you love, etc. etc.

Those liberals may step over the line sometimes, but they do have a history of being, you know, actual victims

Imagine that... how is AOC going to fix the very same problem her own mom left the state to get away from? Her mom is not alone. People are leaving NYS in droves once they retire. Why?? because it is too damn expensive to live in NYS on a fixed income. I have 5 more years until I will be joining AOC's own mom in getting the hell out of NYS.
