Re: The Biden - Harris Era.
I disagree a fan. Fauci is a big problem because he lost the confidence of, IMO, the majority of Americans with his early lies re masks and subsequent evasiveness/obfuscation re Wuhan lab funding and GOF research. His demeanor alone gets in the way of confidence building. His claim that, questioning him is questioning science itself, is the epitome of hubris. In general, how do you think that went over with the public? Fauci's poor messaging and lying wasn't enough to deter my personal risk/benefit analysis re vaccination, but I can see how/why it might other people or at least increased their skepticism in general. If the admin's prime objective was/is to get everyone vaxxed based upon people's assuredness, Fauci should have been taken out of the loop early on when he first lied about masks.a fan wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 1:29 pmNo. He told you that we don't have a definitive answer.
This is why I don't think that Fauci is the problem. Even when he tells Americans the truth---there are some that don't like the answer "I don't know", and they think that that's the same thing as bad messaging, or a non-answer. It's not.
This is where the logic trap I discussed with Tech, arrives: if Fauci tells Americans that the best course of action is to take the vaccine, is the population going to listen to him?youthathletics wrote: ↑Sun Sep 12, 2021 1:02 pm Leaving the population saying..."if the so-called smartest people in the room do not have the answer, then I'll take sit back and wait & my chances".
The answer is no. Clearly. Because he already told them to get vaccinated. They're not listening. By the millions.
So why, then, are you telling me that they're listening to Fauci now, when he doesn't know if antibodies provide better protection than the vaccines? You have to pick a lane here. Either they're listening to him, and following his instructions----or they aren't. You can't have it both ways, and then turn around claim that Fauci is the problem.
He already told them to get the vaccine. Clear messaging. If they did what he said? This interview about antibodies would be entirely immaterial, because they'd already have taken the vaccine.
Pick a lane. You can't have it both ways.
I also disagree that saying "we don't know" is a negative. If someone trustworthy and on a consistent basis comes out to say, here's what we know, here's what we think we know, and here's what we don't know, that transparency/honesty might have made a difference. This is hindsight of course and I'm afraid it's to late for that sort of clear messaging.
I agree with others that the current incredible message being conveyed, that illegal immigrants are not required to get vaccinated, is a jaw-dropper. Good luck getting Covid anti-vaxx Americans on board with that sort of policy/messaging.

Tech, I am not a Fauci hater, but agree. If this was a fortune 500 business trying to accomplish the mission, he'd have to step aside. At this point he's a distraction and hindering the mission.

"Trust in the U.S. federal health agencies responding to the coronavirus pandemic remains strong among a significant sector of the American public, according to a survey from the Annenberg Public Policy Center at the University of Pennsylvania, but Americans place their deepest faith closer to home.
In a telephone poll of 1,719 adults, 76 percent reported being somewhat or very confident in the trustworthiness of information about Covid-19 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and 77 percent expressed the same confidence about the Food and Drug Administration. Both results, from a survey conducted from June 2 to 22, were largely unchanged from an April poll.
Respondents’ highest confidence, at 83 percent, was reserved for their primary health care provider. The poll had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.2 percentage points.
The agencies have been the targets of frequent criticism over their responses to the pandemic on an evolving variety of frequently politicized topics including testing guidelines, testing accessibility, vaccines, masks, school safety and more.
The survey also found that 68 percent of participants believed that Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, the nation’s foremost infectious disease specialist, provided trustworthy advice on the pandemic. Dr. Fauci has come under repeated attack from conservative media figures like Laura Ingraham and Tucker Carlson of Fox News.
In the survey, respondents who relied on conservative media were found to have a lower level of confidence in the health agencies and Dr. Fauci. Only 38 percent of consumers of what the survey called “very conservative media,” for instance, said they had confidence in Dr. Fauci, compared with 84 percent of consumers of “broadcast-newspaper mainstream” media.
The data comes as the U.S. vaccination rate stagnates and the country struggles with a rising number of cases, particularly in states with fewer vaccinated residents, while at the same time the highly infectious Delta variant is spreading.
The survey also found that confidence remained high in the safety and efficacy of vaccines, with 78 percent of respondents believing “definitely or probably” that they were effective in preventing Covid-19."

From a purely pragmatic point of view...replacing Fauci by accepting the FALSE notion that he is a liar...is, in the end, MUCH more harmful than fighting the disinformation. It's lazy. Very Trumplike. It's what's very WRONG with the country right now.

Appreciate the estimate. Personally I think the percentage is about 1/10th of your estimate (less than 10%) and if it were materially below your half, not single digits but let’s say below 30-35%, then is there a cost to moving a guy out and letting the tail wag the dog when there’s so much work still left to be done around this?

The goal is to accomplish the mission. Get people who are unvaccinated to vax. People who are already vaccinated are likely going to listen to whoever is up there. Those who haven't vaccinated have a large contingent that don't fully trust Fauci or may be skeptical of him.
You cant replace the president. You can replace Fauci.
If you really want to get it done, find an across-the-aisle option to push to the podium. Move Fauci to a behind the scenes role.

Someone like the new head of public health in Idaho who calls the vaccine, "needle rape"???
The issue is definitely not Fauci.
I don't think there is literally ANYONE who they could appoint who has both actual credentials/expertise and would tell unvaccinated to get vaccinated who would be listened to by folks who 'don't trust Fauci'.
We're not 100% past the point of "persuasion" (still some can happen at hyper local level) but from the very top, we are. They simply need to keep doing the work on boosters, children's dosages, etc. Make the best decisions they can, keep refining their knowledge.
From the federal level and state level, the 'persuasion' is completed it's course, so it's time to move to the carrots and sticks of mandates, restrictions etc wherever and whenever they have a legal lever to pull.

There is no such qualified "across the aisle" scientist at this point.kramerica.inc wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 9:53 amIt happens in other roles that shouldn't be politicized but are.seacoaster wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 9:26 amI don't disagree with the proposition "You can replace Fauci." I just think placing another scientist in the role will just result in her or his vilification by the Well-Known-A**holes. What I wonder is how many unvaccinated people are out there who now can be convinced to get the jab. If you look at the timeline, we may well be down to the core of anti-vax and untrusting folks who require either relatively coercive measures (you want a job, gotta get the shots), or who need accommodations in the workplace (remote, even if they don't want it). I just don't think Dr. Fauci is the problem here.kramerica.inc wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 9:13 amFrom a purely pragmatic view:seacoaster wrote: ↑Mon Sep 13, 2021 8:41 amThis depends on one's point of view apparently. For instance, Trump appointee Gottlieb would be no more trusted than Fauci.
There's no partisanship among the actual scientists.
And none of them are going to tell the anti-vaxers what they want to hear.
