Watching some of the BC/Carolina semifinal again. Can’t get enough of this game. Man! Sometimes when a player beats their defender and heads to the goal for a shot the defender will take one last tomahawk swipe to jar the ball loose from the stick. It’s amazing how close some of them come to hitting the head of their opponent. The one that I just watched was on Kerrigan Miller‘s goal to pull Carolina to within one at 6-5 with about seven minutes left in the first. There are some tough ladies playing this game!

Good example of that was the defenders slashing at Charlotte North’s stick on her highlight goal where she scoops it up at midfield and scores. Just missed on the tomahawk strike, result a goal and all kinds of momentum.

On so many levels this is literally one of the most ridiculous things you've posted, and that's saying a lot.

I have to say I stopped paying much attention when a certain someone, who constantly posts his opinion had no clue what a FOGO was. It’s really not surprising that he had no clue what a trail check was. Feel free to keep entertaining this gentleman. I for one feel he brings absolutely nothing to the table. Don’t confuse someone asking questions with someone who constantly espouses opinions on a subject he is clueless on.

I don't know anything about physics but the terms torque and g-force may explain why this UConn players stick is curved with the shot or pass she is about to make. Maybe it's just an optical illusion, I don't know--but it's impressive to look at this photo and ponder just how much power there is in this fantastic game.

Thanks so much for posting these. The Bosco story was lovely.

I send the ESPN Wells Crowther piece every year on September 10 or 11 to my kids, who were 5 and 3 when the attacks happened, and when the world changed for all of us. I just want them to understand that there people in the world -- in all of its absurd abundance, for all of the bickering we do among ourselves -- who show at the crucible this sort of goodness and selflessness, and that this person in particular intentionally placed his young life in certain mortal peril to help other people get to the stairway, get to the ground, and get back to their loved ones -- when the rest of us would likely have been running for the exits. I tell them this boy would be in his forties today, maybe would have been driving his daughter to a practice or a tournament, trying to figure out, without prying too much, if she liked boys yet, would have cracked a beer with his wife after a long day, for Wells, at the fire station. 8:46; never forget, that when it happened Wells started the countdown on his life by opting to stay and help. It's humbling beyond words.

I don't know when this information was posted (website link below) but these stats are fascinating. Life goes on for the lacrosse player way after graduating college.

"Club Participation - Men and Women - There are over 11,500 players (7,500 men and 4,000 women) nationally playing lacrosse on over 300 men's and women's post-collegiate club teams in virtually every state in the country. Players at the club level are of the highest caliber. Professional profiles include lawyers, doctors, business executives, and other high earning power vocations. The average club organization has 35 to 40 players.

Participants range in age from 18 to 60. Youth Participation - Boys and Girls Youth and recreational programs playing both field and "soft" lacrosse are estimated at about 100,000 participants, 76,000 boys and 27,000 girls. Over 4,500 programs span the United States. Programs range in size from 50 to 15,000 children. Players range from 5 to 15 years of age. Camps and Clinics - Boys and Girls Participants are primarily high school and youth players. These programs are staffed by current college and high school coaches. There are more than 300 men's and women's camps nationally. The majority of camps are held during the summer months."

Most of it is most certainly filler, although the timing is heavily influenced by location. If you're in a six-team conference, for example, you'll need to add 10-12 games to your calendar. The prospect to play a large opponent is likely intriguing for several players on lesser conference teams.
