This might be the worst take I've seen on this forum.

Take one look at the number of coaches who just straight up quit coaching this year and you will be looking at a high percentage of people who couldn't handle the emotional toll of what the last couple years have been, as well as the increasing pressures and expectations on coaches over the last 10.

The pressure on coaches has been expanding exponentially, and I'm not even talking about pressure to win. If you think coaches should be immune from the emotional toll that taking care of 45ish student-athletes carries then you don't understand coaching.

RD walked into a hornet's nest and was told that the administration would support him and allow him to impose his standards. They didn't do that, then cut him loose after a year. You bet your ass there will be emotional tolls that the year RD experienced will have on a person - seasoned or not.

Just because coaches don't talk about it, doesn't mean there aren't mental health issues in the coaching realm.

Don't mind Laxwizard...he's got Amherst fall practice coming up and is mad he has to wear a mask to class..Total Vibe killer bro..apparently his prep school education didn't teach him not to waste his time beating a dead horse...

Thanks for pointing that out. Was there ever clarity about what spurred his departure from Bowdoin?

He had been a finalist at McDaniel, and would've been a good option there, but it went to G-Burg Asst.

Also, on the D2 board, there's talk of Richard Carrington (most recently HC at Tusculum) in line for the assistant spot at Amherst. I'm not buying it, but if it happens it might be another knee-jerk mandate by the administration, which would just be more of the same but not entirely unexpected.
It's either a thoughtful comment or smartass sarcasm. Learn to recognize the difference.

Has been a finalist at multiple jobs this summer. Sometimes it just doesn't go your way in a cycle. He will be back wouldn't be shocked to see him in the ODAC at some point

Interesting that Woods just picked up a kid who was a July 1 commit to Colby: https://www.insidelacrosse.com/recruiti ... commitment

Not sure how shocking, though. He might have been on his radar from Woods’ time at CC and was NESCAC or bust, but didn’t want to commit to a three ring circus with no ring leader.

I agree. Just don't recall seeing an intra-NESCAC flip before.

If I had to guess he wanted to go to Amherst but didn't want to deal with that circus...New HC and promises of going back to the way it was...won't be the last to flip...

He also plays club with two kids who committed to Amherst and three who committed to Colorado College in July, plus the 2020 captain at his high school is a dman for Amherst, so probably a lot of familiarity and encouragement on multiple levels. Very nice two-way middie. Solid pick up.

Wow the situation at Amherst just seems to be getting worse and worse. Leadership there seems to be very much out of touch!

If this is accurate I’m not sure why someone would take that path. If i had the academic record required for admission to Amherst I could attend almost any other strong academic institution

If you go to the Amherst website, you will see the NY Post article is not entirely accurate (shocking).

For instance, students are not REQUIRED to double mask. They are required to wear a KN95 mask or equivalent, and if they cannot, they must double mask. Most masks students were already should qualify for the "equivalent" status.

The idea that students are not allowed to leave campus is also VASTLY overstated in the article. It sounds like most of the restrictions are in place through Sep 13 (the first week of school) until they have a chance to have the community tested, etc. They do mention further down the page that they will evaluate travel for breaks as the situation evolves. Don't get me wrong, these restrictions suck. But comparing them to some prison or communist nation is laughable. Most of them are just akin to curfews during emergencies, etc. Here are the restrictions, directly from (https://www.amherst.edu/news/covid-19/i ... r-students):

We will limit students’ off-campus travel through September 13. Students may visit the town of Amherst, masked when indoors, in order to conduct business (opening bank accounts, picking up prescriptions, etc.) during regular business hours, but may not go to restaurants or bars.

Other off-campus travel, with the exception of travel to Five College courses, must be approved by the Office of Student Affairs. Travel to the other four campuses for class only is permitted.

We continue to assess protocols for off-campus travel to athletic competitions.

All Amherst College students must be masked when indoors at any off-campus location and when using public transportation.

I haven’t been following any of this very carefully because the news has become so partisan.

Why are the students wearing double masks, quarantining for first week and testing everyone on campus.

The NYPost article said that 100% of campus is vaccinated.

Am I missing something here?

whats also interesting is the amount of control the school wants over what students are doing off campus.

I'd like to think that these policies would have an impact on application volume and yield percentage for the class applying this fall, but I'm pretty sure they won't move the needle at all.

Plenty of campuses that had a "no travel" rule in the last year. Not that uncommon with COVID.
