According to LB's twitter feed, teams started practice this week, before the weather hit.

Who has the first scrimmage of the year?
Re: MIAA A Conference
Not sure who is first, but Calvert Hall is at Bullis this Sunday afternoon. Not sure what time.

Hearing good things about JC. Anyone think they will win more conference games than last year? I say 3 MSJ Severn and Spalding. Thoughts?

Re: MIAA A Conference
I watched JC the past few seasons bc they are in my back yard. IMO, the product on the field has gotten better each year under King. They lost a few kids who were on the field a lot over that time. But hearing there is some good talent and new energy happening this season.
Trying to predict wins is a fool's errand. Especially in this league.
But I do expect JC to continue to grow.

8. Bullis (Md.)
9. Chaminade (N.Y.)
10. Gonzaga (D.C.)
11. Brunswick (Conn.)
12. Boys' Latin (Md.)
13. McDonogh (Md.)
14. Deerfield (Mass.)
15. Delbarton (N.J.)
16. Georgetown Prep (Md.)
17. Haverford (Pa.)
18. Gilman (Md.)
19. IMG Academy (Fla.)
20. La Salle (Pa.)
21. Darien (Conn.)
22. Victor (N.Y.)
23. Malvern Prep (Pa.)
24. St. Sebastian's (Mass.)
25. St. Mary's (Md.)
That puts the MIAA at:
1 CH
2 BL
3 McD

Interesting with SM and GIlly sliding in ahead of LB. There has been lots of talk about the talent stacking up on Northern Parkway for a few years now. I think this is the third year in a row with lots of preseason love for Gilly.

Gtown 10 - St. Marys 7
Re: MIAA A Conference
Was a close game with the starters in the fourth quarter (8-7 Gonzaga) when both teams went to the benches and final score ended up 14-9 Calvert Hall.

How is the shot clock going to affect any teams this year?
Re: MIAA A Conference
Teams with best 2 way middies will rule.Turnandrake wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 12:40 pm How is the shot clock going to affect any teams this year?
Re: MIAA A Conference
Thats interesting. I hear some people say that. but in the college game I am not seeing that play out at all. They all seem to have offensive mids and defensive mids, and are getting their defensive mids off the field. Not sure why that would be different any different at high level high school lacrosse. I still don't see two or three lines of mids going both ways for a shift like hockey.Hammer44 wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 2:36 pmTeams with best 2 way middies will rule.Turnandrake wrote: ↑Mon Mar 04, 2019 12:40 pm How is the shot clock going to affect any teams this year?
The difference I have seen is that once the offensive mids are in the game, teams start going after it very quickly. No more throwing it around the horn 2 or three teams, then an alley dodge, then dump to X, X dodge, nothing there, then pass around the horn 2 more times. :-) Those days are over thank god. I think the big difference is really being purposeful with your dodges and passes and when the shot clock starts winding down, don't panic.

Re: MIAA A Conference
80 seconds is still a long time to get your mids on and off the field. My guess the shot clock makes for a even playing field with lesser teams. They will get more touches on offense. Teams can not always play make it take it now.

Re: MIAA A Conference
I think it has put more value on a strong clearing game - defensemen that can handle the ball and overall team athleticism. On the offensive side of the ball, I don't know that it has actually changed length of possessions, but there seems to be less spinning of the ball and substitution patterns, with teams just getting into offense, which is good and more enjoyable to watch, imo.
