(CNN)As the United States-backed government in Afghanistan fell to the Taliban and US troops raced to leave the country, White supremacist and anti-government extremists have expressed admiration for what the Taliban accomplished, a worrying development for US officials who have been grappling with the threat of domestic violent extremism.
That praise has also been coupled with a wave of anti-refugee sentiment from far-right groups, as the US and others rushed to evacuate tens of thousands of people from Afghanistan by the Biden administration's August 31 deadline.
Several concerning trends have emerged in recent weeks on online platforms commonly used by anti-government, White supremacist and other domestic violent extremist groups, including "framing the activities of the Taliban as a success," and a model for those who believe in the need for a civil war in the US, the head of the Department of Homeland Security's Office of Intelligence and Analysis, John Cohen, said on a call Friday with local and state law enforcement, obtained by CNN.
… Far-right extremist communities have been invigorated by the events in Afghanistan, "whether by their desire to emulate the Taliban or increasingly violent rhetoric about 'invasions' by displaced Afghans," according to recent analysis from SITE Intelligence Group, an American non-governmental organization that tracks online activity of White supremacist and jihadist organizations.
… Neo-Nazi and violent accelerationists -- who hope to provoke what they see as an inevitable race war, which would lead to a Whites-only state -- in North America and Europe are praising the Taliban for its anti-Semitism, homophobia, and severe restrictions on women's freedom, SITE found.

I foresee a "wave" of lawsuits intended to hamstring the Tejas legal system under the weight of this folly. If I had some spare cash I would start with Sen. "Cancun" Cruz's wife. Watch her "prove" she hasn't been going to Mexico to abort his demon spawn (or maybe, let her go since that is a public service).
Not to mention, be amusing if other states initiated similar systems of civil recourse and "standing" for average citizens to sue corporations for malfeasance. Say, suing the Sack-of-sh&tlers for damages, bankruptcy clearance notwithstanding? Or maybe some lawsuits aimed at firearms manufacturers? Or chemical poison vendors? This could be sort of fun!!
SCROTUS should tread very, very carefully through this garden of unforeseen outcomes. Careful with that petard they are hoisting...

Don't know why anyone is concerned about abortions in Texas, pretty much everyone carries a gun to rid themselves of the unwanted anyway. Seems like a lot of overkill to me (sorry about the pun).

Be careful what you wish for. Hobbes might have been correct.

I think we're closer than most realize. Just a little nudge from say, water shortages or power rationing due to failed governance (potable water and sanitation) and regulation (power), and we're off on a ride downhill (fast).

... there are so many ways to make trouble with a "bounty hunter" law. Nearly infinite. A federal law that makes it legal for bounty hunters to sue bounty hunters who make use of any state based bounty hunter law for instance. This gets prosecuted at a federal level. Anti-vaxers, anti-maskers, gun owners, etc. at the state or federal level, have fun with all the possibilities. All laws that will get smacked down by the supremes when they actually take up the case, but should have to be treated the same way they have treated the Texas law.PizzaSnake wrote: ↑Thu Sep 02, 2021 1:19 pm I foresee a "wave" of lawsuits intended to hamstring the Tejas legal system under the weight of this folly. The Party of Stupid Continues to be Stupid in California
Let’s face it, California Gov. Gavin Newsom isn’t a particularly well-liked leader, even among fellow Democrats.
Even so, Republicans are blowing their chance to recall Newsom. The Party of Stupid could have chosen a well-educated conservative from suburbia (Assemblyman Kiley) or a respected moderate from San Diego (former Mayor Faulconer).
Instead, the Party of Stupid is choosing as their leading contender, Larry Elder, an imbecilic, far-right extremist radio talk show host. Elder reflects the deep and absolute stupidity that permeates today’s Republican Party.
Republicans who were hoping for a 2003-style recall upset, in other words, will be disappointed. “I’m skeptical that the recall race will muster enough people to kick Gavin Newsom out of office,” said Sean Walsh, a Republican who helped run former governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s winning campaign and served in his administration.
Part of the reason, of course, is that the 2021 GOP couldn’t offer a compelling alternative. It’s not that the party lacks talent: One of the 46 replacement candidates, Assemblyman Kevin Kiley — a conservative Harvard- and Yale-educated lawyer from suburban Sacramento — would be gubernatorial material in any red state. Another, Kevin Faulconer, a moderate former mayor of California’s second-largest city, San Diego, would be a contender in any purple state.
Instead, California Republicans are flocking to Elder, a bombastic radio talk-show host. He opposes mask and vaccination requirements, speaks fondly of Trump anti-immigration loyalist Stephen Miller, opposes any minimum wage, and is under fire for comments and behavior deemed offensive toward women. Not exactly a winning recipe in one of the bluest of blue states.
https://www.washingtonpost.com/opinions ... tion-poll/
Yep … in a state where Latinos are the largest ethnic group, the Party of Stupid is rallying around a candidate, Elder, who “speaks fondly” of Stephen Miller, who hates Latinos.
It’s clear the Party of Stupid is becoming even stupider.

White Supremacist Texas Taliban Instills Fear in Texans of Color
For Greisa Martinez Rosas, executive director of United We Dream, the abortion law and voter restriction bills mirror conservatives' policies and stances on immigration.
"What is happening in Texas is a deliberate attack by far-right politicians who will do anything to quell Black, brown, immigrant, and LGBTQ communities both in Texas and other Republican-controlled states across the country," Martinez Rosas said.
By merely existing, "Republicans see us as threats to their white supremacist agenda."

These recent heinous acts (voter suppression bill, anti-choice bills) by the Texas Taliban are like the last desperate racist acts of California Republicans in the 1990s.PizzaSnake wrote: ↑Fri Sep 03, 2021 12:55 pmOne small revision: existing as co-equals. The white supremacist trash in the Texas Taliban (Republican Party of Texas) see their future, and it is California. If they are not already, Latinos will be the largest ethnic group in Texas. By the end of this decade, Democrats will be registered to vote in larger numbers than the Republicans. By the end of this decade, Democrats will hold most or all of the state-wide offices. By the end of this decade, Texas will lean solidly towards the Democrats in presidential elections. And within a decade, Democrats will control both state legislatures.
In other words, by 2030, Democrats will control three of the four largest electoral vote states in the nation.
Is it any wonder that the Texas Taliban appear to be so fearful and desperate?
