The entire Amherst administration should be fired for this circus.

"Air Force assistant Jon Thompson and Western Reserve Academy (OH) head coach Dylan Sheridan will have in-person interviews this week for the vacant Utah head coaching job, according to multiple sources."

So....the guy Amherst fired, and the guy they should have hired to replace him are both candidates at a D1 power 5 school; while the guy Amherst did hire already got fired and is suing the school for discrimination. Got it.

That being said, I think the hiring of Woods is a GREAT move. The Lord Mammoths got a good one. Wishing him the best as he navigates all this and gets the program past this crazy stretch.

Seems like Dylan Sheridan is having a tough time making up his mind.

My gut tells me he remains a little too high profile for that job. I think he’d wait a year for the next group of jobs before he took that one.

Completely agree and my comment was (largely) in jest ... CC is an excellent school and rapidly rising program, but JT is probably only eyeing DI slots at this point.

Exactly, also given everything in that complaint they ironically decided to relocate and move to Longmeadow over Amherst (which has a lot more diversity). Longmeadow is probably the most "elitist" area surrounding Amherst

Wow. Wow. Wow. Anyone want to guess how many vaccinated students would die from Covid if they opened the dining hall? Bueller? Anyone? Bueller? That's right, it's zero.

What's amazing is that everyone (students, faculty, staff, etc) on campus is vaccinated. It's starting to look like Amherst students will never again be able to attend class without wearing a mask (or two). Recruits, take note ...

I think it was Laxwizard who earlier said obviously the school didn’t settle and intends to take this mess to court. And D’s attorneys are following the playbook now, going the public/media route to turn up the pressure.

What should be worrisome to invested parties, whether Amherst wins, loses, or settles this matter down the road, is what measures the institution will take in an attempt to retain their progressive bastion image. There isn’t much they could do that would be surprising at this point, and that’s pretty scary.

Reading the lawsuit it is obviously that as an extortion play, it is quite powerful. "You better settle, or we'll file this document and make it public!". AC decided to take the hit, so that didn't work, and now that it's been filed, it has lost a lot of it's teeth. Most of the counts in the document will probably be dismissed by procedure and legal posturing. Without going into detail, there is even a (small) possibility this complaint is weak enough to get completely dismissed. A few of the complaints may get through to a jury trial, and then the real fun begins. D looks weak here (a seasoned men's LAX coach complaining about emotional distress? Come-on...). His real maneuvering didn't happen until he felt his job wasn't going well...it should be pretty easy for the defense to paint a unflattering picture of D based upon the complaint itself, and AC will have more documented proof of timeline, etc. they can rely on than we currently know about. He better have hard proof that AC said they wouldn't 'protect' him (and who writes that in an email?), or it will look like he is just scrambling. This thing is heading for a dismissal or very small settlement, and will go away with a whisper....

Right, but afterward, what does the school do attempting to prove their commitment to progressive values.

We saw their response to an article in the student paper, by most accounts without a thorough investigation to back it up. What grand action/statement will be necessitated by this going public?

It would be tough for them going forward to continue virtue signaling students and faculty alike should they not do anything but dig in and fight this.

The lacrosse team is fortunate to have thus far come away with a seemingly superior coach. But I cringe thinking about ways in which the school may try to publicly save face in light of this continuing to play out.

Is anyone else surprised by the claim that he took a pay cut to go to Amherst? (where they started him at $90k)

Few things temper enthusiasm for social engineering more than having your mismanaged efforts laid bare in the public forum. I'm optimistic that the Amherst administration will lay low for a while to lick their wounds.

This might be the worst take I've seen on this forum.

Take one look at the number of coaches who just straight up quit coaching this year and you will be looking at a high percentage of people who couldn't handle the emotional toll of what the last couple years have been, as well as the increasing pressures and expectations on coaches over the last 10.

The pressure on coaches has been expanding exponentially, and I'm not even talking about pressure to win. If you think coaches should be immune from the emotional toll that taking care of 45ish student-athletes carries then you don't understand coaching.

RD walked into a hornet's nest and was told that the administration would support him and allow him to impose his standards. They didn't do that, then cut him loose after a year. You bet your ass there will be emotional tolls that the year RD experienced will have on a person - seasoned or not.

Just because coaches don't talk about it, doesn't mean there aren't mental health issues in the coaching realm.
