In a nation of professing Christians who are commanded to obey their own Bible, they choose instead to be stupid by refusing to get vaccinated.
Republican Florida shows the consequences of stupidity:
6 members of Florida church die from COVID-19 within days of one another

A Florida pastor is imploring his parishioners to get vaccinated — after six members of the church recently died from COVID-19 within 10 days.
“Four of them were under the age of 35. All of them were healthy, and the only thing they had in common was they were not vaccinated,” Impact Church senior pastor George Davis told told WJXT-TV.
One of the victims was a woman who was recently married and had a young daughter, he added to WFLA-TV.
“It’s definitely taken a toll on us,” Davis said of the deaths. “Some of [the victims] have been extremely close to us. And to watch some of these people in the prime of their life.”
Hoping to prod unvaccinated parishioners to get their shots, the Arlington, Fla., church set up a vaccination clinic Sunday to encourage inoculations.
Davis said he has pushed parishioners to get the vaccine to counter misinformation — but that many have resisted his calls.
“It’s very frustrating knowing that these were avoidable deaths,” Davis told the Washington Post.
“You also don’t want the loved ones who are left behind to feel horrible and don’t want to seem like I’m putting guilt onto them, but the reality is I know that these people would still be here had they gotten the shot.”
Davis told the outlet he believes the vaccine is a divine gift.
“The miracle is no less of a miracle if medical science has to kick in to finish it off,” he told the outlet.
“For me, that’s a little bit of a turning point, because I’ve seen God do it with no medical help up until a point and then finish it off with medical help. And that’s what I [see] in this virus, too.”
To his credit, the church's pastor has done his job. But the politics of right wing stupidity overrides his wise counsel and the result is death.

Makes sense to do that tweaking and agreed that knowing the additional risks from underlying conditions would make those parents more concerned (and they typically are, except perhaps for the overweight aspect). But we need the parents of the rest of the kids to be concerned with their kid contributing to some more vulnerable kid's hospitalization or even death. Not to think, hey, my kid isn't vulnerable, so screw everyone else.old salt wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 10:56 pmhttps://www.google.com/search?q=rsv+in+ ... 66&bih=617MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 9:50 pmHow is the latter relevant? Not arguing with you, just wondering what difference you think it makes...kids are getting sick at alarming rates, gotta make parents nervous about sending their kids into rooms with unmasked kids with parents who haven't been vaccinated.old salt wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 4:56 pm A couple stats would help parents figure out the mask & vaccine questions for their kids :
-- what % of kids hospitalized for covid have other underlying conditions ?
-- does the testing distinguish between covid (alone) & distinguished from/combined with RSV.
And are you suggesting that if a parent is unaware of their kid having any complicating "underlying conditions" eg, asthma, overweight, Downs, or a myriad of other conditions, no worries?
About 20% of kids are obese, higher as they get older...about 19% under 12, about 21% 12-19. Overweight about double those %. About 1 in 12 children have asthma, some overlap with obesity.
Various immune issues?
The better informed parents are about the potential underlying risk factors which could lead to covid infection, the more likely they will be to take precautions for their kids (such as masking) or getting them vaccinated.
obtw -- Moderna is tweaking their booster for delta & RSV.

Read an interesting article written by an educated (GW 4 year degree) women who explained why she was not getting vaccinated. She was well informed generally, in general knew the arguments, but in my opinion was misinformed on some issues, sounded like right wing talking points. Consulted with her "trusted" physician who agreed with her that she was very low risk. Young, healthy, stay at home mom (of 7 kids). Claims she has no issue with vaccines, but feels she has been lied to by those urging people to vaccinate. Claims if her doctor had not agreed, she would have gone out and gotten vaccinated.NattyBohChamps04 wrote: ↑Tue Aug 10, 2021 11:19 pmNot true. Too much disinformation and propaganda out there. It's not about how informed a parent is, it's how they are informed. Who is informing them, how much they trust the informer, and when. If they're informed with the wrong info, it's exponentially harder to get them to do the right thing. Even if that original informer changes their tune.
The firehose of BS has been on since the beginning. Mostly one-sided. It's hurting America.
Claims she wrote the article because she wanted vaccinated people to stop thinking the unvaccinated are stupid.

This guy Andrew Sullivan, gay writer living in Provincetown MA, makes more sense in one day than the entire liberal establishment can in twelve lifetimes. His words will especially infuriate the know-it-all’s…know any?
https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/articl ... COVID.html
He’s absolutely correct on every angle. The government is not here to hold your hand you crybabies. And if you think the government will hold your hand when you need it most, grow the eff up.
“Government isn't there to hold your hand': Columnist Andrew Sullivan tells CNN that US is wrong to pursue 'illusory victory' over COVID and says kids are 18 times more likely to DROWN than die from virus”.
“He also argued: 'The most potent incentive for vaccination is to be brutally frank, a sharp rise in mortality rates. The more people know someone who has suffered and died, the more they are likely to take measures...In other words, call their bluff...Let it rip.'”
He’s correct.

the vaxx rates and numbers lately (shown in graphs and text in daily mail link) are encouraging. if we can squeeze 2 months of 500k 1st shots it can get us up to 215 mill in those presumably looking to get fully vaxxed. that's a 75% number on over 11s and what i always guessed would be near a best case. between that and previous infection immunity we'd be strapped up as best could be expected. hopefully, enough people get scared of the virus or what they might lose.
if not, we move on.

I'm fine with eventual "move on" as long as I don't need to be put at risk, my loved ones put at risk, by those who are refusing vaccination. Keep'em off my bus, train, plane, out of my restaurant, bar, venue, business, school, etc...they want to join the community, great. If not, I also don't want to pay for their health care. 1. I don't care about it or you until it affects me.
Anti-LGBTQ+ until they have a son, daughter, or friend. Anti-abortion until their daughter or mistress gets knocked up. The list goes on and on.
The problem we face is that even if these people are affected directly, many double down on their erroneous beliefs. How many people got mild COVID and still believe it's "no big deal"? Too many. How many people had friends or family die and still believe all the right-wing talking points? Too many.
We could have been in a much better situation a long, long time ago if the previous president and the right had been united with the rest of America and not sown doubt, disinformation, and distrust in mundane science since the beginning.
Too many dead Americans at their hands.

Just doing anything that I can to do my part in keeping the spread down so that kids can go to school. It is the least I could do. I have had my turn….I am making a small sacrifice for kids.
