I suspect Douglas town will become popular. Fredrick Douglas is an historic icon in Rochester. I have had the honor of visiting his grave in Mt Hope cemetery. My own grandmother is buried there.

Having real skills (I count art here too) enables any young child to be a net positive to society; anyone is happier with a real skill.

I’m reading a book now about the civil war, and like any good book enthusiast, I go to Wikipedia to get more information on events and people the book presumes one knows more about. Last night, I dug into John Brown and the raid at Harpers Ferry. Harriet Tubman thought John Brown was the best white American person in America, far more than Lincoln. Brown was also a multi dimensional character, neither pure hero nor pure lunatic.

I won’t debate that. What I wanted to tell the board is John Brown and his family (he lost 2 sons at the raid) is buried near Lake Placid NY, summer lax central. His body was taken from West Virginia to upstate ny, and the trip was revealing about America then. Near you, Cradle. I’m thinking no one objects to that name on a school?

Cradle: Babylon Bee is satire. Lol. The article is a dig at the team for prioritizing woke identifying over playing.

How does the loss to Sweden indicate any such prioritization?

Maybe it was a result of poor roster selection, bad coaching, or, maybe, they just lost.

Because many people understand there are only so many hours in the day. So when these high-level athletes are seen spending significant time they could be training, doing other things, you open yourself up to this type of scrutiny.

Much the way other top athletes like NFL stars are criticized for their offseason choices...of doing the talk show circuit, politicking, making movies, or commercials, or partying...instead of training. There is also such a thing as the "Super Bowl hangover" that happens when formerly unknown athletes enjoy the spotlight and platform that winning a championship finally gives them and they don't work as hard the subsequent year... or are distracted.

So, by that logic, any result other than gold is grounds for criticism? Interesting.

It's not my logic, but it's the logic of Many, many fans out there.
For high end professional athletes, yes. It comes with the territory.
Even easier to make that criticism when those people in question were previously seen winning gold.

TOKYO—People were stunned after the U.S. women's soccer team lost to Sweden in the Olympics this week by a score of 3-0—until the team revealed they are boycotting scoring any goals until racism is defeated.

"Yeah, we didn't score any goals against Sweden last night, but that was totally on purpose," said star player and beloved activist Megan Rapinoe. "This isn't the time to score goals—when America is still racist. We totally could have beaten Sweden but we decided as a team that no goals will be scored until complete equality has been achieved in America. Also, we demand a hefty raise."

Onlookers were stunned during the second half of the game when Rapinoe dribbled the ball all the way to Sweden's unprotected goal and whispered "This is for you, people of color," before kicking the ball straight into the air and running headfirst into the goalpost.

"This may be one of the most powerful performances in the history of sports," said Teen Vogue's sportswriter who has never watched sports.

I think the general vibe is the US Women’s soccer team focuses more on politics than sport. Obviously that’s not correct, and obviously most of the team are patriotic types, but the loudest voices and profiles from that team often are the identity politics ones such as Rapinoe. As a result, many Americans don’t really care if they win or lose. Those are simple facts. I’m not landing on either side of the debate.
