There are indeed many, many people making gallant efforts. Truly heroic, others self sacrificing.

Sorry, there's nothing about Trump that can be accurately called 'gallant'.

I do think he's playing a lot less golf. A lot less.

Unless of course vaxx is not mandatory for HS.
well sure, but the whole point is that it should be mandated. It's not hard to provide an exception, or as ggait suggests, and accommodation.
"should be"? According to whom, you and ggait? No thanks!
That's ok, we've disagreed on a lot throughout the pandemic.
I wouldn't expect you to agree now all of a sudden.
You come off as quite authoritarian at times, "should be" being a good example. The Covid vaccines have problems... politics aside, each individual needs/has the right, to weigh the risk-benefit of their specific case. My teenage daughter is old enough, intelligent enough, and informed enough to make her own healthcare decisions. Those decisions are different than my personal decisions, made on behalf of myself re Covid. She also understands that if vaxx becomes mandatory at her HS, she will need to reevaluate her original decisions. I hope it doesn't come to that and she isn't put in that position.
yeah, the problem is that we human beings are quite irrational, putting short term self interest over even long term benefit that's very high...and even more so weigh personal interest way higher than we weigh the benefits of community participation. Irrationally so.

So, we invented government. "fences" and those to enforce them.

And, instead of a monarch or other authoritarian form of government, we've more recently invented democracy, including constitutional protections of individual and minority rights. All sorts of checks and balances.

And, back to "fences", we've recognized the necessity of anti-pollution laws, and public safety mandates, and the FDA...and...

So, no, not "authoritarian", but rather community based, constitutional democracy.

I think you ignored this point earlier? What are we going to do when so many millions of Americans have decided to no longer trust that democracy works?

Been watching both the local and national news on TV this morning. Several reports have focused on the resurgence of covid throughout the USA with the Delta variant being the biggest problem. Commentators have pointed the finger at the lack of masks and vaccination as the cause of this resurgence. But unlike the past where people adhered to calls for masking & vaxxing, many people out there are ignoring those calls today. You have to wonder why these social lemmings are that way. How many more must die or be damaged for the rest of their lives before the delusionals (the vast majority of whom support a right wing political agenda) will wake up to the truth and comply with the CDC's advisories.

To those fools there's only one thing to say: comply or die!

Let's hope they do so before it's too late.

You accused me of sounding "authoritarian"...second time I've explained why this is the opposite of authoritarianism. And explained the rationale for government regulations and public health mandates in a democracy.

And you refuse to engage with that logic regarding human nature and the irrationalism shown in behavioral economics.
Do you actually have an answer or is just dismissing this as a "lecture" your only response?

Nope, "let's hope not" doesn't apply to me. Now, if you can show me a way to achieve universal vaccination (with very limited exceptions) and thus crushing the virus, without such "law" I'm all ears.

This is a discussion board; I'm interested in your thoughtful response.

No, just making the point that we've disagreed quite a lot through the course of the pandemic.

You called me a "lost cause"; no, we've simply disagreed quite a lot, just as we have on a number of political issues. You are highly cynical about mainstream experts and expert consensus at pretty much every level, finding outlier "experts" more credible as they falsely stoke this cynicism. And yet found total idiots with real power like Trump to be "gallant".

You're a smart, well informed guy, so I find your reasoning and information sources worth exploring. Doesn't mean I'm going to agree, but that's the whole point of a discussion board.

Right now, you're making common cause with such idiots as Ron Johnson. Well, sure, we disagree.

Not to be too inflammatory, but are there any limits on her healthcare decisions you allow her to make?

Breakthrough infections are very numerous. Just usually don’t get detected. If you are vaxed and asymptomatic, there’s little likelihood you are going to get tested.

The BS Meter says something is fishy is going on....we'll see.
Breakthrough infections are very numerous. Just usually don’t get detected. If you are vaxed and asymptomatic, there’s little likelihood you are going to get tested.
Exactly my point....makes you wonder why they where tested in the first place, considering they are said to be vaccinated. Maybe it was just SOP upon entering the US Capitol, but then why did it take until Friday to get results, considering they have been there for well over a week. All while conveniently winding down the hourglass towards 6AUG, which happens to be the end of the special legislative session.

In police work they'd call that a clue, but in politics it would be called PR brilliance. Oh, and an even neater story...neither the VP or Schumer and friends who met with the Texas fleers, who they where in the rooms with, do not need be tested... strange world we live in.
A fraudulent intent, however carefully concealed at the outset, will generally, in the end, betray itself.
