Great guitar leads

Post by Cletus »

Ace Frehley makes his axe wail and squeal and dive and soar from 2:17 to 2:55 on this obscure Kiss song with Peter Criss on vocals.

Great guitar leads - Billy Gibbons

Post by Cletus »

Billy Gibbons--axeman extraordinaire. Wow could he make his guitar squeal! Solo's in the middle and end of the song.

Huge Gibbins fan, SRV too but here's a little masterpiece from the King of shred.

Aerosmith - Critical Mass

Post by Cletus »

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Draw_the_ ... ith_album)

Lots of fascinating info gleaned and preserved on Wikipedia. For instance, the lyrics for Critical Mass off the Draw the Line album were written by producer Jack Douglas. The Beatles influence/tribute is strong as to be almost plagiaristic for the trick ending of the song. It fades out then comes back for the real ending a la "Strawberry Fields Forever". And then to a lesser degree, guitar licks played backward a la "Rain"

Most critics hated the album when it debuted in late 1977 but there are some gems among the duds. Critical Mass being one of the gems. These lyrics are copied from the internet so I’m not sure how precise they are word for word. Tyler has written some great lyrics: “Uncle Salty” “Back in the Saddle” etc to name a couple, but this great lyric belongs to Jack.

Critical Mass

Arriving in boats, black hooded coats
Tormentors climbed into my room
I crawled under my bed, covered my head
But they're flushin' me out with a broom

The leader, she's small, pinned my a*s to the wall
For my seeds or she'd be losin' her past
Time after time, she'd be readin' my mind
But she never got the feelin' to last

Celebrate, celebrate, celebraid it
This is the critical mass

So far so good, I heard the other say
So good so far, they're takin' me away
Drink to you, your mind, her a*s
We'll take a drink and break the glass
Celebrate, celebrate, celebreak it
This is the critical mass

Now the tallest of two, with a brush full of blue
Paints surrealist scenes on the wall
So I tell her for fun, that it's really well done
But she just ain't listenin' at all
She points to my heart, tellin' me if I'm smart
I'll practice and phase
Out and admit, when the shoe doesn't fit
And I went screaming out down the hall

Need it
Need your love

Just then I heard a poundin' on the door
We're all here, sang the voice of twenty more
I drink to you alas, we'll take a drink and break the glass
Celebrate, celebrate, celebreak it
We are the critical mass

Time and space, is takin' me away
Time erase, don't know the time of day

Always liked the way Simon & Garfunkel harmonized. No better way to appreciate it than listening to one of their biggest hits:

I think that Disturbed did justice to the song. It may be even a little bit more "haunting" than the original but that is just one persons opinion.

From "Empty Glass" album - one of my all time faves. Masterful production work by Chris Thomas.

Joe Perry (Aerosmith) Bright Light Fright

Post by OuttaNowhereWregget »

Interesting little ditty, a short but sweet little rocker. Not the greatest song or lyrics but the guitar work is inspired. Nice sax solo too. Joe comes with all bravado right from the beginning of the song. Sounds like Joe had a good time with Bright Light Fright as he did most of it in the recording studio by himself:

Joe Perry – lead and rhythm guitar, slide guitar, backing vocals, lead vocals on "Bright Light Fright"

"Relations deteriorated further when Perry presented "Bright Light Fright" to the band and they "didn't like it. I said, 'Do you want to do it or not?' They said no." Perry, who has stated the song was inspired by the Sex Pistols, sang the song himself on the LP."

Stan Bronstein – saxophone on "Bright Light Fright"

Think Limp Bizkit did a cover as well. On the subject of covers, I can never get tired of Chris Cornell doing Nothing Compares to You in this totally haunting and melancholy acoustic set

Now I love those cowboys, I love their gold
Love my uncle, God rest his soul
Taught me good, Lord, taught me all I know
Taught me so well, that I grabbed that gold
I left his dead ass there by the side of the road, yeah
