Grimes is going to be fine. He was hurt his entire junior year of high school and then the season was canceled his senior year. So coming into college he hadn't played real lacrosse since sophomore year at Boys Latin and while the MIAA is a gauntlet, it's not the Big Ten. This was an adjustment year for him. I expect big things and I think the staff does too.
Having said that I'm very interested to see if Degnon will be in the mix for that spot on attack. All he does when given the chance is score goals. He's turning into a player whom they may not want to come off the field.

Todaro was named to the Under Armour All-American game, for those who care about such things.

Never cease to amaze - if Shellenberger or anyone had just put up 24 tournament points and a MOP for a Johns Hopkins national champion - everybody here would be in diabetic comas for all the sugar crap you would pour out - "this kid is the love child of Mike O'Neill/Terry Riordan and Jeff Cook" - don't even try to deny it - but now because he play for UVA he's a "very good" player. News flash - he checks every frigging box there is:Sagittarius A* wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 11:41 am I think Shelly is a very good player, I just don't think he's unstoppable.
I would love to see the Hop/UVA series revived.
- shot velocity - above average
- shot location - beyond exceptional
- quick as a cat - very good north south speed
- generational vision and IQ
- has that competitive sense of the moment
79 points as a freshman - assuming he takes on more offensive responsibility as Aitken leaves and Moore leaves next year - pretty clear - barring injury he leaves UVA with more than 300 points - that's a little better than "very good" IMHO
the Amherst kid was added because they thought the goalie position was still a dumpster fire and they couldn't count on a sight unseen freshman. It will be interesting to see if they think Marcille has doused the flames. They increased the playing time of basically 3 freshmen - Martin, McDermott and Peshko - Grimes was out there from Day 1. So any exodus from the the underclasses will be fascinating.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2022
As I have said multiple times on the UVA board, Shellenberger, barring injury, will go down as the greatest attackman in the history of the U and will become the only four-time first team AA at two positions.

Hmmm ....
Redshirt freshman ... 79 points ... not playing his most natural position ... outplays Jared Bernhardt in the national championship game.
Look, that ain’t bad ... but you may be exaggerating a bit.

Well, who would be better from UVA if indeed he turns out to be four time first teamer?DocBarrister wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 3:34 pmHmmm ....

There've been many a great Hoo attack man, but that would likely be a fair description should it play out that way.
Re: Johns Hopkins 2022
Doc spouting off again. The AD is responsible for setting up and overseeing the appeals process The compliance person is responsible for preparing the report that goes to the NCAA.
Appears both the previous AD and Compliance weren’t up to the task. Previous AD is just that ….. previous.
Once the error is made the coa h gets drawn in to trying to solve it.
I am certainly not downplaying the issue. It’s the off handed way Doc tries to spin it. Alton it couldn’t have been too serious from tge NCAA perspective.
I posted some time ago certain embers of the administration. would prefer not to have a D-1 reporting requirement.
On another topic some interesting news brewing on a number of coaching fronts

Anything you can share?
On another note Alanna Shanahan is leaving for Penn. it sure feels like she flipped the Hopkins Athletic Department upside down, took a promotion for her dirty work and then said screw it I’m done here and now exits stage left.

Excellent! Cuse isn’t really “into” NCAA rules compliance, so it’s a perfect fit!

More love for Benson starting here: https://fanlax.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=267920#p267920 than I ever saw on our pages.

Re: Johns Hopkins 2022
they were 2 plays from a national championship, beat us 3 times this year, had an undefeated season almost, a tewaraaton winner, and cooked duke. If he had a season like that here we'd feel similar warm and fuzzies. That fan base has also been lubed up with good feelings from a decade of success including a title. It's a happy camp.44WeWantMore wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 9:08 pm More love for Benson starting here: https://fanlax.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=267920#p267920 than I ever saw on our pages.

I always thought Benson was a very good O coordinator. As I have stated more than once, Benson’s institution of a new motion offense in 2014 was one of the finest coaching performances of the Pietramala era. Offense wasn’t really the problem near the end of Petro’s tenure.jhu06 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 9:35 pmthey were 2 plays from a national championship, beat us 3 times this year, had an undefeated season almost, a tewaraaton winner, and cooked duke. He could have been playing for Hopkins and maybe join the ranks of Blue Jay Legends. It was his choice to join the Dark Side...51percentcorn wrote: ↑Wed Jun 02, 2021 2:24 pmNever cease to amaze - if Shellenberger or anyone had just put up 24 tournament points and a MOP for a Johns Hopkins national champion - everybody here would be in diabetic comas for all the sugar crap you would pour out - "this kid is the love child of Mike O'Neill/Terry Riordan and Jeff Cook" - don't even try to deny it - but now because he play for UVA he's a "very good" player. Andy Shay as head coach? Gary Gait as offensive coordinator?
