Wow did you see what Loyola posted on their website- seems that Lehigh is the 2021 National Champion now!

BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Due to a positive COVID-19 test from the Tier 1 testing pool of Loyola University Maryland men's lacrosse team, the Greyhounds will withdraw from the Patriot League Championship Game out of an abundance of caution due to health and safety protocols.

After an 11-10 win over the U.S. Military Academy on Friday night, Loyola was due to play Lehigh University in the Championship Game on Sunday, May 9. By virtue of the no-contest, Lehigh will be the 2021 NCAA Division I Men's Lacrosse Championship.

Hottest team in lacrosse right now, will have to wait to see if they get an at large bid

Would have been good to avenge that early season loss. Probably the worst game the Hounds played all year, and are a much different squad now. Bailey would have gone even with Sisselberger this time, for starters.

Dont know for sure, but if they were invited, could they field a team? Isnt close contact (worst case) a 7 or 10 day wait period? Who knows if it is limited to one player, but I would guess there has to be contact issues with other players.

Let's hope it is isolated to one player and not multiple players and that the Hounds get an ALB.

It would be hilarious if Brecht sent some kid who’s largely a GPA anchor for the team to a lab and then drove him to BMore and had him run naked through Loyola’s campus.

My guess is no. They were a bubble team if they lost but I think this ends their chances. Unfortunate.

I agree, but they were peaking and could have made today's game interesting.

Tragic way for the season to end, especially the way the team turned things around and all the momentum they had.

I know I am pretty bummed. I can't imagine how the players must be feeling.

I'm actually less worried about getting a bid than our ability to field a team in 6 days. The Hounds have a strong resume vs. fellow bubble teams, but with the whole team staying in a hotel all weekend and taking the bus rides together, I don't see how they avoid quarantining most of the team.

Was the decision not to play made by coaches? AD? Patriot league? Seems extreme for one person testing positive. If that is the case they short changed the team. Short sighted and not following cdc guidelines.

Would be interesting to learn. Imagine if you were THE player that shut it all down.....brutal.

Notwithstanding where they project in here when I look at the list of profiles I could argue Loyola is close to Denver. Biggest difference is who they lost to, but still to me better than a couple above them.

Looks like you really get penalized for the Towson loss, that feels like perception over reality as it was in the middle of Towson liking like A dud to them becoming a quality team that finally started to put it together too late bc a 3 goal L to UVA, 4 goal road loss to Lehigh, and 5 goal L to Army and 4 g L to Navy both avenged later in season isn’t that bad compared with a close L to Duke, evisceration (early season big road trip) L to UNC and two 1g Ls to GTown (certainly a i weighted average helps Loyola based on the UNC game). My point more not to compare those two as to suggest they should be ok

Read a comment on Twitter that it was a false positive, that would certainly be horrific if true.
