Circa 1965, just pre-lacrosse career, this then 12-year old writer was on the swim team at the local YMCA. The Y had a Coke machine that dispensed actual glass bottles of Coke. Hangin' out one day waiting to be picked up after practice, i put two fingers in the slot where you popped the cap and it fell into a long, deep metal box. The box hung on a small lip i guess, cause you could lift it up slightly so that it tilted away from the door of the machine at the bottom of the maybe 6 to 8-inch long metal bottle cap container.

At one point, i lifted the metal box and, as i let it go, gave the machine door a little hip-check and VIOLA! A bottle of cold, crisp Coke came tumbling out of the machine!

Tried it again...it worked again! I made out like a bandit off that machine for at least a couple months until someone figured out that the "take" didn't equal the number of bottles missing, and the machine was replaced...with cans this time i think.

It was around that time that i became a life-long Pepsi fan...

My favorite job growing up in our family grocery store was sevicing the soda machine (my least favorite was sorting & stacking the returnable empty soda & beer bottles). My dad purchased a used standup verical Pepsi machine (same style as this -- https://www.etsy.com/listing/971414956/ ... rsQAvD_BwE .
We removed the Pepsi signage & stocked it with all sorts of soda brands -- Coke, Pepsi, RC Cola, Dr Pepper (with the raised 10-2-4 on the bottles), 7-up, Vess cream soda, Nehi orange, Dad's Root Beer, Yoo Hoo chocolate. In the summer, I had to restock it twice a day.

A Vendo V63 slant shelf... If you adjust the shelves it will also dispense an 8oz bottle of Rolling Rock. If you set the coin mech at zero it would also free vend. If you sold Rolling Rock you would have had to stock it 10 times a day. My friend had a similar machine I set up for him in his garage. The mechanisms were all mechanical, they never ever broke down.

Someone please explain to me how Virginia eliminating advanced math courses for any student before 11th grade isn’t racist. They have flat out admitted that they are doing this in the name of “equity”. So are they saying “marginalized” groups are incapable of learning Algebra I in the 8th grade? I recall being roundly chastised on this board for quoting a paper on racial disparities in learning, yet our elected leaders are putting in place a policy designed to drag the “smart” kids down to the level of marginal students, irrespective of their skin color, so nobody’s feelings are hurt. At the same time they are telling the people they think they’re helping to not bother trying math because they can’t hack it.

Dems are still running the KKK. It’s just called the DNC now.
