Re: Race in America - Riots Explode in Minneapolis
You know....that could have been me....I was 11 or 12 carrying my BB gun through the neighborhood shooting at birds probably. Saw a police car go by and then another and I took off running as I was afraid they were going to take my BB gun. Next thing I know there were about 3 police cars chasing me. I finally threw the BB gun over some tall hedges as the cops were closing in and I was two houses away from home. Cops got out with guns drawn. I put my hands up and said “don’t shoot, don’t shoot I am only a kid!!”....cops patted me down and asked why I ran. I told them I was afraid they were going to take my BB gun. They retrieved it. Asked where I lived and I turned and pointed...right there. The cops walked me home and went inside and talked to my parents. They told them that someone called and said a man was roaming the neighborhood with a rifle.....I was maybe 5’2 110 pounds....cops told me not to run from the police....I didn’t play with that BB gun after that. I see these kids getting shot and it could have very easily been me. My son wanted an air soft gun because he friends had them....I told him “You can’t always do what your friends do”. He was about 13.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 9:35 pmAs they say, "not a close call".Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 7:57 pm

Re: Race in America - Riots Explode in Minneapolis
There are a few things that are clear and a few things that are not clear as of my writing this.
Things clear
1) When the kid was shot he was not holding a gun, and none is in sight
2) The kid is not claimed to have ever discharged the gun
3) The kid's only claimed interaction with the gun was carrying / running with it / and throwing it over a fence before being shot
4) The police claim they found the gun on the other side of the fence from the kid
5) After shooting the kid, CPD, behaved in a responsible fashion following policy rendering assistance to the victim
Things not clear
1) What is the exact relationship of where the gun was found to where the kid was shot? On the other side of the fence can mean a lot of different things.
2) How much time passed between the time the kid dumped the gun and was shot? The claim is that is was basically bang - bang, 1 second max, I don't see that when viewing the video at normal speed.
3) There is a claim that the kid pointed the gun generally in the officers direction while dumping the gun over the fence. I don't see that when viewing the video at normal speed.
4) The officer seems to show remorse, or perhaps concern, some emotion after the shooting and inability to revive the kid
Things not clear but not necessarily relevant to the officers liability
1) There is hearsay that CPD lied to the family as to what the video would show when produced
2) There is the appearance of the CPD of running out the clock before releasing the video evidence
3) The officer is claimed to have had 3 community complaints, never investigated by CPD
Basically the things labeled not clear have to become clear to come to any conclusion as to what really happened. If time between ditching gun and being shot is really under 1 second, the officer probably has a reasonable explanation. As that delta of time grows, the worse the case for the officer.

Yes, but same basic story and I didn't ever perceive the same degree of risk. I had an air gun, pump it and it would go bang...push it into a bit of mud and the air would blast the mud out...I'm maybe 8 or 9 and roaming Homeland in Baltimore, hiding behind bushes and "shooting" tanks going by...one of the cars must have called the cops...I ran and made it to my home, never caught, but my only concern was getting a spanking from parents...these days and I'm a black kid?Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 10:04 pmYou know....that could have been me....I was 11 or 12 carrying my BB gun through the neighborhood shooting at birds probably. Funny story some years later, buddy who was an AA lax player later at Princeton and I were up late one night at my home now out in Greenspring Valley, my parents out at a party...we were maybe 13-14, lobbing cherry tomatoes at cars going past, thump, thump, big fun...but not really quite exciting enough...so, we devised an idea that we'd stand in the middle of the road, wait until the lights of the car coming toward us would hit us as they came over the hill and we'd run and dive over the hedge in front of neighbors home...now we were having fun...waiting a little longer each time...about the 4th time, we dove over the hedge, the car slowed down and stopped, and then the big beam of a police light moved over us; we're holding heads in the leaves, not breathing, beam stops right over our heads...the police car slowly moved down the road to the driveway and turned in...we bolted and ran like hell back to my house...ran upstairs...police car drove into each driveway, beam going at each house, sweeping up and around...we were scared sh-tless. My parents, of course, then learned from neighbors of the "prowlers" that had been in the neighborhood...I had to go apologize to each of the neighbors...
But seriously, that was the right answer for your son...

I have such a hard time believing these jokers. There is ALWAYS a story to relate to. Always. The performance art is to say ‘that could’ve been moi’, when it never would have been since they grew up in leafy white suburbs.
My first instinct is skepticism, deservedly so. My second instinct is to do what you did OS, quiz them on the glaring gaps. My third instinct is to mock them, and that seems the best path most times.
Carry on.
Re: Race in America - Riots Explode in Minneapolis
Yup, those air guns would give you a puff of dirt when you fired them in a hole in the ground. They'd give you a whole lot more than that if that hole happened to be a mud wasps nest though. I know that for certain as when I did it those mud wasps came buzzing out in big numbers and my brother and I ran like hell. Not quite fast enough though, my brother got stung on the hand a few times and it swelled up like a boxing glove, those mud wasps are nasty!!! Little brother came out unscathed.
Re: Race in America - Riots Explode in Minneapolis
To Sean Hannity, the victim was a “13-year old man.”
To Matt Gaetz, the victim was a “17-year old woman.”
Pay attention to how they are framing things.

Yes, for a lot of people.
At bare minimum body cams repeatedly prove police are an untrustworthy journalistic source and it would seem that any media narrative reliant on "police said" must be coupled with the context of what we also know -- police lie.

... I love "my brother and I ran like hell" stories. Have a few myself. They always seem to take place with the boys being somewhere in the age range of 9-13. Boys that age are fearless and cosmically dumb. Make for great stories in the 50s and 60s. Good way to get shot by a COP these days.DMac wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 9:15 am Yup, those air guns would give you a puff of dirt when you fired them in a hole in the ground. You do know TLD grew up black in a lower income neighborhood right? An area that does have crime and violence? Or if you didn’t does that change your attitude towards his story? Maybe not the same w MD but for the former I find your questioning pretty mindless and thoughtless in that context.old salt wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 1:53 amWere you juvenile delinquents doing your gun play at 2:30 a.m. in a neighborhood with so many shootings it has an audio gun shot detector which automatically rings down to the police ? ... interesting, video shows no gun in sight at time of shooting. Did the COP know the boy had gun powder residue on his hands when the COP pulled the trigger?? Interesting that none of the media accounts I saw yesterday after release of body cam mentioned anything about any indication that the boy discharged any weapon. Your source, a week old local piece, a story planted by the police??old salt wrote: ↑Fri Apr 16, 2021 1:53 amWere you juvenile delinquents doing your gun play at 2:30 a.m. in a neighborhood with so many shootings it has an audio gun shot detector which automatically rings down to the police ? You could tidy up your anti-police screed by saying ‘SOME’ police lie, just like some politicians lie. But not all. In fact a small minority of police lie.
Unless you actually think all cops are corrupt?

Ever notice that the pigs "tell the truth" until the video comes out?
The "bad apple" routine is as old as the pigs union, and lies of omission and silence are rampant in the pig force.
When is the last (first) time a "good pig" came out and told the truth about a single "bad pig"??

Phooey. That so called blue wall of silence includes most if not all cops and you know it.

Lake Wobegone news: This white man refused to wear a mask at a grocery store. He then assaulted an employee. Got in his truck, with police hanging on, HIT THE OFFICER IN THE FACE WITH A HAMMER, and sped off. Again, I’m not begging for this white man to be killed, but either you kill him and kill Black people or don’t kill him and don’t kill Black people. Because what we have right now is them not killing him, and killing Black people who don’t do ANYTHING like this. In fact, me and @leemerrittesq had a case kind of like this with a Black man. Of course they killed him. Now compare this to Philando Castile in Minnesota. Or Daunte Wright in Minnesota. Again, people are being asked to accept too much injustice Again, this IS NOT ABOUT TRAINING. They know how to avoid violence. But they just choose to use those skills with white people.
Meanwhile the anti black/brown holocaust continues much to the delight of the crazed and radical far reich.

Ever notice that the pigs "tell the truth" until the video comes out?
The "bad apple" routine is as old as the pigs union, and lies of omission and silence are rampant in the pig force.
When is the last (first) time a "good pig" came out and told the truth about a single "bad pig"??

... personally I have had it with the bad apple excuse. The good apples need to be outing the bad apples and if they don't they are bad apples as well.

Libs hate professions they can’t begin to understand. They hate business leaders, they hate cops, they hate independent thinkers, they hate religion, they hate America.
