I don't honestly know when this started. One thing's for sure - it definitely was done in order to insure that the jury would be as white as possible. After all, Ramsey County (St Paul) is next door and the black/middle class population is about the same as Hennepin (Minneapolis). By comparison it is much smaller in Washington County which is what the cops and the right wingers want.

If it is about safety, why do you let the guy start and drive the car away, in the first place, if the cop witnessed the stumbling out of the bar ? Multiple reason, maybe the cop was getting a BJ or a donut,,,,,

Yes , MUCH safer to let them drive away.....and of course, the safety argument continues, when mr. drunk driver forgot about that joint.........because, ransacking a drunk drivers car is ALL about safety.........the getting the drunk off the road is ancillary...

... saw this earlier but what is the point? It is ok to shoot a 16 year old holding a BB gun. Ohio police proved that when they killed a 12 year old (IIRC) and got away with it. Can't say the kid is smart, obviously had a problem.

More information on Kim Potter. After a 2019 officer involved shooting / death, while on scene she gave two officers involved the following instruction: "exit the residence, get into separate squad cars, turn off their body worn cameras, and to not talk to each other." Strange to tell them to turn off their body cameras. I believe during this period (2019) she was a police union representative.
