I think it is time to process that elk using the recipe given for venison. It should be cut up into steaks and soaked over night in ice water. The next day marinade it overnight in Speadie sauce and then next day... Speadie elk sliders. Then we can finally put the elk where it belongs, in our bellies.tech37 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 4:47 pmCareful OS, a fan will claim that it is Trump who made you feel this way.old salt wrote: ↑Fri Apr 02, 2021 3:29 pmI didn't lose interest. Dude. You haven't said one freaking word about Portland since the election. This is a statement of FACT.
Just because you can't laugh at yourself for this FACT, doesn't mean you get to act like I'm making it up.
You lost interest in Portland after the election. Clearly. Factually. I thought it was funny, and so did TLD, and no big deal. I should have left it alone, apparently.
Your trolling & sniping had the intended effect. You, tld, kismet & ffg should be pleased. Mission Accomplished. Don't expect me to offer my thoughts or return fire. It is no longer a fun, good natured experience.

Instead of chuckling at your barroom hyperbole of the past---and TLD's funny quip about a stupid elk? You attack me, and tell me I'm making *hit up.
The elk's "best by" date is long past. Tell it to the property owners & businesses wiped out in Portland.
This is such a solid post. Sure, unfortunately, to be missed by those that it’s intended for.
Old Salt, to any rational reader, has a serious, sober look at politics. His sin is he’s not reflexively liberal, as those who parry with him demand.
Fanlax libs aren’t wildly different than Antifa. They both attack, no humility, often with bad faith, arrogance seeping through the posts. Antifa burns down buildings. Fanlax libs burn down conversations. And the bad faith attacks are relentless. Not that anyone cares. I’d need to respect someone to actually care.
I stepped away previously for the same reasons OS articulated. You boys should ponder his previous two posts, not that I expect you to, but you should if you’re Interested in self improvement.

Lt Zimmerman of the Minneapolis police force (40 years in the force) stated categorically that putting the knee on George Floyd's neck was "totally unnecessary as Floyd had NOT been resisting and the use of force was excessive". Very startling testimony - local media here in the Twinkies emphasized this in their reporting.

The sad part is that the judge will not allow evidence of Chauvin's past use of this criminal act. That would establish a pattern of attempted murder both for the criminal cop and the department. The fact that the Minneapolis PD has long been aware and tolerant of it tells you plenty about its priorities and criminality.
Police chief will now be called to testify - he has already gone on record as calling it a homicide.

In this case, a fan's comment covered several posters. Isn't specific to Salty. "Pete and others" later clarified. Apparently, Salty recognized himself as being within that group. Oh my, the horror of having one's past posts and expressed views recalled.
Salty's response, if he wished to debate it at all, could have easily been, 'yeah, I felt it should have been an election issue (and why) and I don't see it as intense an issue now because the Mayor (etc) are now responding differently than they had before, more appropriately IMO. That, too, may have something to do with the election timing, I don't know their motivation...' But he didn't. He went on attack. Back to hyperbolic exaggeration.
And yeah, that's part of the problem on here. It's not as if we couldn't discuss issues and disagreements in ways less hyperbolic and actually learn a bit from each other.

You get the same accusation because you do the same thing. Like afan, you take the opportunity to speak for others all the time. Projecting what you think they think, when you really don't have a clue. You stereotype people. You project your stereotypes onto others, rather than just playing the ball where it lies. When asked to show us their words, you equivocate. It's fascinating that so many liberals are not content to speak only for themselves & let their words & ideas be judged on their own merits. You have to tear down anyone who does not share your views. It's a dishonest device to speak on behalf of others. It's not necessary. You guys consume enough bandwidth just speaking for yourselves.MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 9:55 am I get the same accusation from salty...a frequent retort is that we've put words in his mouth when we're simply holding to account the past record of statements and arguments made, often not specific to a single poster but rather to a collection of such on here. It's been the same place since you and I met here over a decade ago. And you've had your share of rude comments to your fellow posters, as we all have.
I've had the same rule for myself since day one: I match other poster's tone. So if you're nice to me? I'm nice back. If you're condescending to me? I'm condescending back. If you ask me to tone it down? I tone it down. And on and on. You have "trolled and sniped" posters like myself for YEARS....but here you are telling me, we're not supposed to return fire. I thought it was all in fun? Guess not.
Ok. Works for me. I'm out, and the forum is yours. I enjoyed our banter over the years. It was particularly welcome the last year over the pandemic, as I have had one single, solitary day off from work since it started over a year ago now. I thank you for that. I have ZERO interest in hurting someone's feelings in the real world, so I apologize if I've done that to you, or anyone else reading this. I thought we were all just shooting the *hit here, and yeah, things can get heated....but my thought on that was: so what? We're all adults here. It's just conversation, folks.
Folks, you can reach me on PMs, and I'll still hang on the lacrosse-side of the forum. Hope you all have half as WONDERFUL of a summer as I'm about to have.
Cheers!

Salty, I too have previously apologized for any actual misrepresentations of your views, but they've never been "dishonestly" offered. That's angry hyperbole from you, your own "device" when confronted on a topic. I'd simply suggest that you listen to what others tell you that you have come across as saying your views are, as others (in this case, me) heard them expressed from you over time. They may be incorrectly heard, but that's a two-way street, at least largely due to the speaker not just the listener.
You, yourself, jumped into the discussion, presuming that a fan was referring to you, even though he had not mentioned you. That's why I said that you "recognized" yourself in the views that were being described. You are free to explain your views, that's actually what the forum is for, a discussion.
I also hope that you, like a fan, don't quit the forum either. You, too, contribute thoughtfully and informatively to the discussions...you just get a bit caustic at times, IMO unnecessarily.

He's been pinging on my every post since the election, calling me out on every issue, then saying I had no basis to comment because I had defended Trump on some issues. Followed by an "I told you so" on every issue.

He was trolling me. Chiding me for not posting on the subject, when I was in fact exercising restraint.
He's been pinging on my every post since the election, calling me out on every issue, then saying I had no basis to comment because I had defended Trump on some issues. Followed by an "I told you so" on every issue.
F-that. Who is he to tell other's what they can think or say ?
I let him know I did not appreciate it. He did not take the hint.
It should still be possible to cordially discuss the issues without personalizing the discussion.
When I do so, it is in reply, in self-defense, ...which is a waste of time.
Thanks for butting in. You're a real peacemaker.
Had one of them won, I'd have been ok with how the election turned out.
If that was a question, thanks for asking rather than telling me what I thought.

hmmm, "guys like Pete" and "Pete and others" sure as heck sounds like he was thinking of someone else more in particular than you...but, yes, you're rather predictable on this too...and yeah no one is really buying that you were "exercising restraint" rather than that the narrative just no longer had much value post election. That said, I also don't recall you rolling out "Portland" in response to Jan 6 like some did...but maybe? I'm happy to call that "restraint" that others didn't have...in reality, IMO, it was all a lot of BS to deflect from what was building, this white nationalist grossness from the underbelly of America and covered up by elites.old salt wrote: ↑Sat Apr 03, 2021 9:10 pmIt was obvious he was referring to me. Listen, what you obviously get riled up about is people calling you out for what you've communicated in the past. Maybe instead of calling them "dishonest" in how they characterize your past posts, you might actually think about what messages you sent and stop blaming others for how they're received. Sure, the impressions we give sometimes come across differently than we intended (I know that's true in my own communications sometimes)...but that's on us as the writers to figure out how to say better. So, let's try to do better.
You're bothered that Georgia went blue? Two Senators in the special...after the claims of the Big Lie were the Trumpist reaction to November? Again, maybe look at what the GOP in the Trump era has become and blame that for the loss. You spent 4 years lecturing those of us, Republicans, who were alarmed by what the Trumpist movement meant, that we were the ones who didn't understand what was happening and why, and cheering for the "policies" you thought Trumpism was bringing to America...while we saw the corruption, the incompetence, the lying, the bigotry, the nativism, the isolationism...maybe you were wrong to back that horse?
Or maybe not...but that's what we discuss on here, different points of view.
