Still Delaware, UMass, Towson, Hofstra,
in my book,

Drexel made some improvements, mostly with
some midfielders but a work in progress,
Stags still trying to find their game.

Oh, and thanks Tigers,
big jump in RPIs due to Tigers win over a
Patriot League.

I think the CAA is still wide open. Hofstra and UMass get their first big tests tomorrow on Long Island. I think this game will come down to defense and goaltending. UMass has an edge there.

The CAA-to-date in a few words:

Drexel- Dynamic middies, athletic offense. subpar defense
Delaware- Deepest offense in league, very good but maddeningly inconsistent defense
Fairfield- terrible defense, excellent goalie, limited offensive talent
Hofstra- Ryan Tierney, Ryan Tierney, Ryan Tierney and Michael Altmann, sketchy defense
Towson- scarily improving relentless defense and a vanilla latte offense
UMass- the most balanced offense and defense. A little sloppy so far. Best goalie in conference. XFactor is Jeff Trainor.

As far as the conference goes, it’s very tough to beat any team twice in a season. This year, teams might be asked to do it three times to get a bid. If I had to predict I’d guess the top teams would split regular season matchups.

May 6 and 8 we will see who is playing the best at that time. Every team has something to work on. We shall see.

Can anyone update where spectators/family are allowed?

Fairfield was home team family only
Hofstra is so far not allowing any fans ( Nassau Coliseum 10% / Yankee Stadium 20% )

Drexel policy
This limited number of home team spectators
will be permitted and must be on pass list,
masked and physically distanced. Guests must
be pre-registered by that student-athlete by
5 p.m. the day before the game. At the main
gate to Vidas Athletic Complex, registered
guests must produce identification and a
completed Drexel health verification survey.
Towson
Fan Attendance
A limited number of spectators will be allowed
into Johnny Unitas® Stadium, SECU Arena, Tiger
Field and other selected venues. Seating will be
general admission and seating pods have been
marked in each venue so that fans and families
can safely watch their team play.

Spectators will include only those on a team
pass list.

No tickets are available to the general public
at this time and no walk-up fans will be admitted.
BTW,
I didn’t realize Johnny Unitas was a registered
trademark, but it makes a lot of sense.

Good breakdown from Henfan.

Casey is back for Hofstra, and he looked in charge and
very solid, with the Dutch defense responding in kind,
less dopey plays, more confident.

Tigers are employing extreme clock management, limit
possessions, limit faceoffs, make the other team try to
cut towards the crease where they’d get pounded by Mo
Sillah, Koby Smith, Garrett Zungailia.

Dylan Beckwith has the scoring numbers, but their offense
just isn’t looking as dynamic as last year.
Colin Consoli really does look that good, I thought he had
more saves, but 18 was the count against Hofstra. From
NJ, any number of schools missed on this recruit, was
originally going to Mount Saint Mary’s.

I don’t know what kind of impact there will be if Chris
Connolly and Alex Concannon don’t make it back from
what looked like pretty bad injuries, not happy about any
of your top players missing out.

For Drexel, I’ll continue to look for freshmen contributions
Carter Begley and Ronnie Gunter Jr. look pretty dynamic
and are contributing. Reid Bowering was on the sideline
and looked OK, so I’ll be interested to see how the lineup
shakes up when he is ready to return.

Oops... Below was intended for UMass vs Hofstra

This looks like an amazing march up. I'm surprised that more hasn't been written about it. Best goalie for UMass, best attacker for Hofstra. Hofstra has home field advantage. UMass comes with great preseason expectations.

I'd always heard that the Hofstra field had a few unusual bounces that helped the home team.

I could be wrong.

It is.
If Alex Concannon is out for Hofstra, Ryan Tierney will
have to do more, so I’m looking for Tierney to pull off
some play you’ve never seen before. Jeff Trainor will be
all over the field for UMass, offense, defense, scoring critical goals.

Colton Rudd is playing in Alex Concannon’s place,
with Ryan Tierney and Justin Lynsky.
Chris Connelly is still out, so its Devin Spencer again
at attack for UMass.
I’m not seeing Jeff Trainor in the lineup so far, hopefully
he’s not out.

Leg.

You’re not going to beat UMass making silly plays,
Cannella’s teams don’t make mistakes.
Ryan Tierney looks stiff, not real confident.

I don’t get Tierney sometimes.

Sam Lutfi hasn’t played,
Sterlyn Ardrey hasn’t played ?!

I mean, this is CAA play,
you’re playing UMass.

Not good strategy from Tierney against a really
formidable team in UMass,

on the other hand, UMass simply isn’t making mistakes
or many, anyway.
They are solid across the board, except for their top
attackman is out indefinitely.

Devin Spencer has answered the call,
he’s taken over the Chris Connelly role, fortunate for
UMass they can look to the senior until and if Connelly
makes it back.
