$27mm...Eric Garner. It’s a simple request. If anyone should care about your sons life then they should care about ones taken away while given the veneer of authority. It’s that simple. Imagine if Rochester lost $27mm from the actions to a local force.
This is what the police and their bosses cost that community already. Plus a life taken away.

Not sure where to put this oped but thought it was worth sharing on rising crime in affluent Atlanta and broadly in larger wealthier cities.

Efforts underway to create police reform among cops in Mt Vernon, NY. Or so they say. I wouldn't hold my breath waiting for any changes to take place. Chances are nothing will change, the cops will still abuse people with impunity, and taxpayers will foot the bill for their crimes much to the delight of the radical far right.

Anti-Asian Hate Crimes
But advocates are also seeking a culture shift. They point to former president Donald Trump’s anti-Asian comments at the onset of the coronavirus as the catalyst for the spike in anti-Asian hate crimes over the past year. Trump and his allies often called the virus the “Kung Flu” and “China virus,” alluding to its origins in Wuhan, China. Their rhetoric led to a 900 percent surge in anti-Asian Twitter traffic. The former president continued to use “China Virus” in an interview with Fox the night of the shooting.
“This is the aftermath of a whole year of Donald Trump's using the terms ‘China Virus’ and ‘Wuhan Virus’ and creating hatred,” said Rep. Judy Chu (D-Calif.), who is chair of the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, told POLITICO.
... Tuesday’s fatal shootings at three Atlanta-area spas are the culmination of a long-history of racism and misogyny against Asian Americans, misinformation about the virus and the president’s divisive rhetoric, advocates and lawmakers say. A majority of the victims were women; at least four were of Asian descent. The suspect, Robert Aaron Long, 21, is white and as of this writing, has been charged with at least four counts of murder.
... “We were shockingly disappointed when our own president started using words like ‘Chinese Virus’ and ‘Kung Flu.’ And I was very nervous, as were many people at the time, because he obviously had a very wide platform in a time of fear,” Meng told POLITICO.

Our own little forum is not innocent here ... for an entire year there was a thread on this forum with the racist title, “Chinese Coronavirus.”
It’s the 21st-century, and racism and bigotry are still a major problem in this country. How screwed up is that?

Buckhead, a wealthy, predominantly white part of north Atlanta that was annexed by Atlanta in 1952 is thinking of taking their ball and going home...
“One thing we know is that losing Buckhead would have dramatic consequences for Atlanta. The city, which has been narrowly divided between white and Black candidates in recent mayoral elections, would become solidly African American. But it would also become poorer. Buckhead, with less than 20 percent of the city's total population, pays 47 percent of its property taxes and contributes 38 percent of total city revenue. There are some powerful reasons for Atlanta to want to keep it.”

Disgraceful Incident at the University of the South
Absolutely disgraceful ... an embarrassment to the entire sport of lacrosse.
Officials at the University of the South, owned and governed by 28 Episcopal dioceses in the Southeast, are investigating a weekend incident in which some students shouted the N-word and other racial epithets at an opposing team during a lacrosse match hosted by the university in Sewanee, Tennessee.
Vice-chancellor Reuben E. Brigety II called the incident “inexcusable” in a March 14 letter to students, faculty and staff at the university, commonly known as Sewanee. A day earlier, Sewanee had hosted a multiracial men’s lacrosse team from Emmanuel College in Franklin Springs, Georgia. About 120 Sewanee students attended the match, Brigety said.
“To our great dismay, a few of the Sewanee students hurled the most vile racial epithets,” Brigety said. “So pronounced were the shouted slurs in the third quarter that the game officials on the field ordered that Sewanee fans be cleared before play could continue.”

Dude, of course DonjT is a jerk, with his derogatory intonations, to say the least, but it is just silly for you to continue with , what you think, is racism.
just because YOU say it is racism, does NOT mean it is. the Baltimore, bigoted history ,especially towards the majority community, and the systemic racism you continue to ignore, that IS lacrosse.
of course, calling "variants" by Countries names, is what ?
WE ....are sick of you people....just spewing nonsense and belittling others. sad.
do you have to be "approved" to purchase property in your private, gated, community?
the first target of bigotry should be economic. You and yours covid response has been spot on. Proof that it is just more systemic racism, all these useless college degree requirements. And that is just to get an interview.
things changed much? last I looked at harvard jfk public grant writing........
I remember doing a private ski lesson........the guy was a doctor that now went around teaching people how to scam medicAID.
Thankfully, this was over beers, and he had already tipped me....so when he continued to gloat about scamming Uncle sam....I said, " wow, what a scumbag " Why I don't have high blood pressure. Try telling the truth, it is healthy.

It's indeed sad that bigotry remains such a pervasive issue in 21st century America, but that's not going to change overnight apparently...but we can hope for, work for, small steps, one heart at a time.

IMO they should stick to their original plan. They need to keep the police defunded and let the FLP braintrust of that community figure out the nuts and bolts of kinder and gentler policing. Someday they might even come to the realization that the criminals are laughing in their face at their abject stupidity. The criminals don't give an eff about what the police force looks like or thinks. Their job is to stay out of jail and stay on the streets. Mission accomplished on their part.youthathletics wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 6:34 am Portland mayor pledges to divert millions from police bureau, ban chokeholds in city reforms - Jun 09, 2020

Is there any evidence that that standard policing is reducing shootings? Nationwide, homicides are up roughly 36%. There is not much the police can do until the bullet has left the barrel. There use to be this thing called pro-active policing. That was not very popular with some more progressive people. So your left with reactive policing. You then get what you have today.ardilla secreta wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 8:37 amIs there any evidence that that standard policing is reducing shootings? And, if ardilla's stat is accurate (just what cities are we talking? "nationwide" very general), hasn't the reactive rather than proactive emboldened criminals?cradleandshoot wrote: ↑Fri Mar 19, 2021 8:42 amThere is not much the police can do until the bullet has left the barrel.
