I didn’t really expect an upset here, despite some of
the talk, maybe a close game, still early.

IL had the score wrong. UNC 17, HOU 15. HPU came out on fire in Q1. UNC, did what they do. Wore HPU don't on faceoffs and better ball movement.
Re: UNC 2021
unc twitter has 27-12. 17 -15 was 11 days ago.oldbartman wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 4:11 pm IL had the score wrong. UNC 17, HOU 15. HPU came out on fire in Q1. UNC, did what they do. Wore HPU don't on faceoffs and better ball movement.

No thank you...MDlaxfan76 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 12:18 pmwell, let's also not assume it has anything to do with his health, mental or otherwise, either...we simply don't know. Totally agree as to "anonymously slandered".HopFan16 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 11:20 amWho says he "announced his intentions"? He put himself in the transfer portal. The only reason you know about it is because Inside Lacrosse reported on it. It's entirely possible the player would have preferred to keep this quiet. You have no idea.Boxster54 wrote: ↑Sat Feb 27, 2021 9:37 am These are two very different situations and the timing validates this. Bowen entered the transfer portal in early December well ahead of the season starting and revealed the reasons why. In early January, he announced he was going to Georgetown to continue his education in a grad program that UNC did not offer. If UNC had the program he likely would have stayed a Tar Heel. His timing and transparency were likely appreciated and encouraged by the coaches to avoid any in-season drama that could disrupt the focus on the team's goals. Johnson, the designated pre-season starter, apparently loses the job and can not seem to fight his way back into the #1 spot against a freshman. Perhaps there are other personal off-the-field issues unfolding, but to announce your intentions to leave the team mid-season is selfish and shows poor character and lack of leadership. For the sake of the team, he could have announced his intention to leave when the season is over. Right now he is the second most important player on the roster, the backup goalie, just like the backup QB. His team needs to know they can count on him should something happen to Krieg and he needs to go in and make stops. Why not work hard in practice, push the freshman to make him better, and make yourself better, and then beat him out. I'm sorry the timing of this reveals his lack of character and commitment to the team. I wouldn't be surprised if he is not around much longer if this nonsense continues.
Also, who really cares at the end of the day? Like you said, he was beaten out for the starting job, though it sure sounds like him getting Covid had something to do with that. UNC has three other goalies on the roster should something happen to the starter. If the backup goalie entering the portal is what ruins the team's hopes of a championship then they probably had bigger issues.
"Perhaps there are other personal off-the-field issues unfolding" is basically all you really needed to say, but instead we get a huge paragraph of assumptions and speculation.
Lot of people talked a big game this offseason about how these kids needed to play lacrosse during the pandemic for the sake of their mental health but then the second one makes a decision that for all anyone here knows is in the best interests of his own health, he's anonymously slandered for it.
I'm fine on it being transparent that a player has entered the portal, that's his call to make, but I simply see no point on ripping on a kid and his "character" when we absolutely don't know the whole story...yes, TAV, IMO that's "inappropriate and potentially hurtful".
But, yeah, this is America and we get to make jerks of ourselves on anonymous boards like this if we want. (Many would say I do so constantly!)

There’s only so many games this year,
some teams maybe think they’ll require the
additional style points.

Overrated anyway. USILA actually named him preseason 3rd team coming off a 46% semi season last year. Really?
Re: UNC 2021
Few observations from last night game;
20 save ACC debut for the freshman which was tremendous. What was even more impressive was Krieg BEATING attackmen to the end line ! For all you young goalies out there, take notes
Although we didnt fair well last night at the X, having 2 guys split reps evenly will pay huge dividends come May. Brilliant strategy from Breschi this year.
Maher is an absolute work horse. Does it all between the lines
Book your hotel rooms for East Hartford. This is a Final Four team

Re: UNC 2021
Happy for an ACC road win, regardless of score.
The themes of this game played out opposite of what i was expecting: I thought UNC would have the edge at FO and UVA the edge in goal.
Need to tighten up on penalties.
It's a shame we lose Bowen next year. I think he's one of the best long stick defenders in the country.
Round II should be another good one.

Nobody much has been tracking this,
buy Chris Gray enters the top xxx all time in
scoring,
275 points in 48 games played.

That is pretty efficient....what is crazy is Sowers had 302 in 47 games. Both of those guys have been two of my favorite players since they were in High School.
“I wish you would!”

Just have to keep heads down, practice hard, don’t read the press, take care of Air Force...
Re: UNC 2021
Congrats to senior captain Cam Macri for limiting Michael Sowers to only 1 point in the loss to Duke. If anyone deserves ACC Defensive Player Of The Week honors, it's him.
I have to say, the offense really wilted late in the game during this one. 1 goal in the 4th quarter is inexcusable. Is Will Perry really the player you want to be ISO'ing during the last play of the game?
Also, I'm not sure why Andrew Tyeryar only took three faceoffs during this game. Statistically, he has been just as proficient as Tucci at winning draws. Was the whole point of playing Tyeryar in the first place just to spell our main FOGO during the easy SOCON matches?
