Sacred Heart tried shadowing Tierney, their defenseman
was all over him,

but that just opened things up for the other players,
Concannon especially.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK:
Ryan Tierney, Hofstra
Senior | Attack | Massapequa, N.Y./ Massapequa
Ryan Tierney recorded a career-high eight goals and 11 points in the Pride’s win over No. 17 Stony Brook on Saturday. This marks the second time this season that Tierney had posted the 8-goal, 11-point stat line in a game. He moved to within three goals of setting new Hofstra (goals) and CAA (points) marks.

ROOKIE OF THE WEEK:
Mike Robinson, Delaware
Redshirt Freshman | Attack | Peterborough, Ont./Culver Military Academy
Mike Robinson set a new CAA standard when he scored nine goals in the Blue Hens’ win against St. Joseph’s on Tuesday, The nine goals, the most by a Delaware player since 1963, surpassed the old conference mark of eight goals, set twice previously, most recently on Feb. 13, 2021 by Hofstra’s Ryan Tierney. Robinson finished out the week with three goals in the win over Bellarmine on Sunday.

Of course,
Robinson isn’t exactly a rookie,
but, that’s ok.

A couple years back Delaware frustrated the heck out of Tierney by overplaying his left hand and trailing with a double EVERY single time he touched the ball above GLE. He ended up scoring 2 goals in a 13-7 loss, including a shot from behind GLE that to this day astounds me that it got in. Tierney freaked out and lost composure in that game and took four minutes in penalties. He is extremely competitive (a hot head like dad) and gets a little outside his game when teams key on him like that. I think he may be the all-time leader in penalties for an attackman if they keep those kind of stats. Look it up. He led his team in penalties in 2019 with 14 penalties and 13 minutes in the box.

All that said, two years ago he had ZERO support on offense, so he was forced to force the action. This year, with the addition of transfers Alex Concannon and Justin Lynsky, he has so many more options to just rotate the ball and pick up an assist. Doubling him every time he touches the ball could cost teams dearly.

So, I can't say that there really is a way to stop him completely. You can only hope to contain him somewhat.
Yeah but has he ever taken a skate off and tried to stab anyone with it?
I am not sure what that is in reference to, but it is funny.

3 and 1 starts for both Hofstra and Delaware.
They could both just as easily have gotten off to
4 and 0 starts.
Tigers could have held that lead, breakdowns at
the end of that game, or they’d be 3 and 2.
Lets see how the other teams do this weekend.

Ryan Tierney passes Curtis Dickson as the leading
scorer in the CAA with 214 career points.

Congrats to Ryan Tierney he is a tremendous player. For the record Delaware’s loss at MSM was without 20 players including 7 starters. Good news is this will be settled with the typically enthusiastic CAA play starting Saturday.

Hofstra is still waiting to hear if the UMass game is on or off. If off, the Dutch may play someone else.

From IL,

Tierney Breaks CAA Points Record,
Hofstra Goals Record

Ryan Tierney continued his phenomenal start to 2021,
setting a pair of records in No. 20 Hofstra’s 18-6 win against Wagner.

Tierney scored six goals to easily eclipse Curtis Dickson’s CAA points record (212) as well as Tom Kessler’s Hofstra goals record (140). Tierney now has 216 points and 144 goals. He is in sight of Dickson’s CAA goals record (162) and the Hofstra points record (238).

Unfortunately, not a full slate of CAA games again
this weekend,

But, Fairfield opens today,
@ Providence 6pm,
Live Stats,

https://friars.com/sidearmstats/mlax/summary

also available for streaming if you have a Providence
subscription,

the 2nd year under Baxter, last year the Stags went
all in with the Yale or maybe Stony Brook really wide open
offense, and this year presumably there will be more
focus on the defensive end,
obviously Dylan Beckwith is the player to watch here,
he thrived in Baxter’s new system,

a good overview on the state of Fairfield lacrosse
from Baxter,

This game is not exactly shaping up to be a defensive
struggle, Fairfield quick out of the gate as you’d expect,

6-5 Providence after 1Q.

Thanks for update,
not on Providence’s subscription service.

They will need their goalie this year as Baxter’s defense
begins to take shape, as Baxter starts to get in
his style defensive recruits.

14-14 at end of the 3rd. Fairfield has some impressive offensive players.

Providence is wasting their possessions on pointless low percentage shots from outside.

Providence is big and athletic. They have done really well scoring in translation.

Exciting ending. 18-17 Friars. Fairfield got within one goal with 36 seconds left, and retained possession until the end with multiple shots. Fairfield is a really good and artful lacrosse team, aided by a very solid goalie.

Providence is very athletic, and did exceptionally well in transition. Both teams left it all on the field.

Thanks for insight,

I wonder what this does re-working with this win,
the Friars place in the Big East ?

Fairfield's offense looked great tonight. They've got a ton of weapons and some really great long-range shooters. Dylan Beckwith is deadly accurate.

On a negative note, the Stags defense looked a lot like last year's squad that gave up just under 16 goals per game. That might just be the result of playing the first game of the season. Colin Consoli made several point-blank saves at the end of the first half to keep the game within reach.

Could be a shootout this weekend versus Delaware in the CAA opener. These games are generally very close so it might come down to the last team with the ball.

Hoping for great weather and two healthy teams. Should be fun.

Agreed. The Stag's offense got a slow start, but once they found their rhythm they were very impressive. Beckwith pulled up lame toward the end of the Fourth Quarter, but it didn't look serious.

Yet another Division III transfer,

(Matt) Chlastawa – a Division III All-American at Bates –
scored his first Fairfield goal less than a minute into
his Stags career and finished with two goals and
an assist.
