I'm listening to WBAB-FM which is a station whose format was based on the old WLIR-FM. They just played Pat Benatar's "Love Is A Battle Field". The announcer came up with a note from Pat's past: when she was growing up in Long Island she sang from her bedroom and her voice so loud that neighborhood kids complained about her. The DJ wondered how they feel about her now.

Merry Clayton's background singing is the best in Rock & Roll history. Sadly, it has been said that she strained herself so badly in singing that it caused her a miscarriage. Don't know it this is true but it sure is a sad story.

I hadn't realized how often this song has ben covered and sampled. I believe the Skylark version I posted is the original; I remember listening to it as a little kid in small-town Ohio during those long, slow summers when the campus and town emptied out; I'd close my eyes and that song would take me far, far away....

I believe your version is the original. That New Birth version was mid 1970’s.
