US Lax Mag releases preseason poles this morning. Some interesting picks here..
Limestone at #9 my guess is because of their losses on the offensive end
Florida Southern coming in at #17 after going 3-4 in shortened season
Mesa at #19 after going undefeated

IMHO - preseason polls often hinge on who has the most dedicated SID.
Another surprise is that 13 schools are from the south region. Am I counting correctly?

All the pressure is on Tampa with the #1 Ranking. They look good on paper but don’t they always?

Re: 2021 Rankings
Florida Tech seems to have picked up a huge grad transfer in Josh Vetter from Roanoke. I saw him play Peter Pitroff - then of Denison, now at Providence - really tough last season. I think he’s capable of locking down anyone in the SSC. No idea how the rest of the team looks.

But Caporuscio switched his commit to Le Moyne.

Anyone want go give odds on whether Limestone University will finish the season with a higher national ranking than their preseason #9?[/size]

Re: 2021 Rankings
It'll be interesting to see how Tampa is viewed as the year goes on. Pre-season rankings are basically on reputation, and their schedule will not help them:
Only 10 games (why wouldn't they at least do a double round-robin to get to 12?)
Don't start until March 19,
In-conference games only,
Fla Southern is currently ranked, but they're barely in at #20,
It's a fairly competitive conference, so when Tech, Southern, Rollins, Lynn and Leo start beating each other, will they get ranked or just flounder in the "also receiving votes" category?
So what do you do in May with a 10-0 or 9-1 Tampa, without a win over a top 20 team?

Re: 2021 Rankings
I would still consider them close to the top they would drop in my opinion but they have the talent o paper if they lose a game they would expect them drop more than a team that played harder competition.WhiteCarrera wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 9:29 am It'll be interesting to see how Tampa is viewed as the year goes on. Re: 2021 Rankings
What the SSC is doing with conference only games is not completely uncommon in this pandemic year. I believe the NE10 is doing something similar as well.
With reduced schedules anyway, the number of out of conference games is more limited than what you would get in a normal year. Just makes the selection process harder, and maybe a bit more "iffy" to appropriately determine the teams asked to the dance, so to speak.

I wouldn't be surprised if there would be a few snubs I believe and since there are few teams in the tournament this year correct?RedFromMI wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 11:45 am What the SSC is doing with conference only games is not completely uncommon in this pandemic year. The GLVC is another with conference-only games, and a good contrast:RedFromMI wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 11:45 am What the SSC is doing with conference only games is not completely uncommon in this pandemic year. I believe the NE10 is doing something similar as well.

Tampa is more likely to run the table, but in a more balanced conference that might end up with no other ranked teams.
The GLVC has three Top-15 teams, but also three new programs. It'll be harder to win out, but also with some competition lighter than the bottom of the SSC.
Do you want a 10-0 Tampa with no top 20 wins, or a 10-2 Lindenwood/Indy with Top 15 wins and losses?

Re: 2021 Rankings
Agree Red to a point. Look at UMO https://umotrojans.com/sports/mens-lacrosse/schedule. They have their conference games, but did well with outside conference selections in Wingate, Queens, Catawba and CMU. IMO Tampa could have scheduled outside games but choose not to. Might hurt them come section time when the strength of schedule counts...RedFromMI wrote: ↑Tue Feb 23, 2021 11:45 am What the SSC is doing with conference only games is not completely uncommon in this pandemic year.
