If the players are as tough as the coach, you may be on to something. I love him.

Hopefully he doesn't teach the Georgetown players to go headhunting, get called for a penalty, give up the goal anyway, and then do the "flexing muscles" gesture as he's taken off the field for the other team's man-up opportunity.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:53 amIf the players are as tough as the coach, you may be on to something. Playing up to the edge is fine. Over the edge isn’t. Taking a penalty here and there isn’t the end of the world but keep it clean. Cornell has a kid like that....I can’t remember his name but he is good for one penalty a game but he’s a tone setter. Sometimes you need that.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 1:13 pmHopefully he doesn't teach the Georgetown players to go headhunting, get called for a penalty, give up the goal anyway, and then do the "flexing muscles" gesture as he's taken off the field for the other team's man-up opportunity.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:53 amIf the players are as tough as the coach, you may be on to something. Hop16 would be totally in love with Jack Rowlett and his game if he played for Hopkins. Great player who will be a great asset for Georgetown.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 1:29 pmPlaying up to the edge is fine. Over the edge isn’t. Nope, he's not perfect......I'd take him on my team any day of the week and twice on ACC game days!!!!HopFan16 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 1:13 pmHopefully he doesn't teach the Georgetown players to go headhunting, get called for a penalty, give up the goal anyway, and then do the "flexing muscles" gesture as he's taken off the field for the other team's man-up opportunity.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:53 amIf the players are as tough as the coach, you may be on to something. Wow - you are going to hold this kid to one play that happened over his 4 year career? I hope you didn't make any mistakes as an 18-22 year old. Sarcastic Font is on.HopFan16 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 1:13 pmHopefully he doesn't teach the Georgetown players to go headhunting, get called for a penalty, give up the goal anyway, and then do the "flexing muscles" gesture as he's taken off the field for the other team's man-up opportunity.Typical Lax Dad wrote: ↑Tue Feb 09, 2021 11:53 amIf the players are as tough as the coach, you may be on to something. Hoyas game this weekend at Nova moved from Saturday 6pm to Sunday at 1pm due to “cold weather protocol”.
Re: Georgetown 2021
Beyond the offensive dominance, I find these stats very telling.
- 11 Caused Turnovers. Curious how many came on the ride vs. defense.
- Georgetown also dominated on GB's winning 69% 27 to 12.
Re: Georgetown 2021
GU dominated in every aspect of the game.
The caused turnovers were mainly takeaways, both one on one and double teams. And after a while VU looked frustrated and turned it over even more. The GU defense played a very aggressive yet disciplined game. They switched/slid a good amount and also doubled from the blind side and disrupted the offense even if there was no takeaway. Gibson Smith is simply great and Donaldson quietly dominated his man. Mazzone and Licalzi were also very solid. The D middies were also very good and seem improved from last year, and they also went 4 deep. The goalie was relatively untested but looked good on clears and GBs.
On offense GU complimented Carraway and Bundy well. The other guys drove and passed well and were very patient in looking for the open man. VU was very frustrated by this and gave Carraway a second to shoot most times, and his shot is so quick and strong that he was unstoppable.
The team looked very good last year but was unproven given the relatively weak OOC schedule. They not only did not miss a beat from last year but looked even better this game, with more experience under their belt. With no fall ball and the other COVID disruptions the team was well prepared and looked very sharp.

Hoya saxa! What an impressive win on the road against a program that has been very good over the past 5-10 years. Really impressive way to start the season!
Re: Georgetown 2021
This is true to a certain extent, but the thing I noticed is how well McElroy and the defense played as a unit. While McElroy only had 6 direct saves, the D drove shooters to tough angles, and he positioned himself and played the angles perfectly. The Villanova players had no net to shoot at and he got in their heads, forcing them to overthink and miss the net trying to find open spaces.

Good point re: the goalie. I agree that the D played great as a unit, and VU eventually looked frustrated by the defense and were limited to very few decent shots.
Re: Georgetown 2021
What is also impressive is that 12 out of the Hoyas 16 goals were assisted. Carraway’s 8 were almost all scored within the framework of a very unselfish team offense. That should bode well down the line.
Re: Georgetown 2021
What is the status of Dylan Watson? I didn't see his name in the stat sheet last week. He hurt or something else going on?
