Lol that explains a lot
MDlaxfan76 wrote: Thu Feb 18, 2021 11:50 am Reading between the lines, it sounds to me like they've had positive Covid tests and exposure, whether from being at the Wawa party themselves or through dorm mates etc.

Seems to me that the point of emphasis might be that they've found a way to get on the field this weekend...not all teams are playing at all.

If it required some concessions to the powers that be, better than not playing, right? Even if those concessions seem a bit fruitless on the outside?
The second half of this post is correct—the first is not. They've only had one player in Covid protocol all offseason and he's back now. No exposure to the Wawa party whatsoever. They are doing everything within their power to test negative every day and be allowed to play with minimal disruptions...and so far it's paid off. Whole team has fully bought into the new standards because they just want to play. Steelhop cares a lot more about the masks then they do. If a shortie misses a defensive assignment I'm sure he'll blame it on the mask. Fired the coach so now I guess it's time to pivot to pre-complaining about something else before the games are even played.
+1 on the first part being incorrect, that is baseless speculation...

Joe
Nope. Not speculation at all... Now watch this cool trick where I show the virus and cases essentially followed a season pattern regardless of restrictions flowing from the upper Midwest to the coasts.

steel hop,
Pretty sure that Joe's target for "baseless" was me. He's got a thing about needing to take a whack at me any chance he gets.
Steelhop,

I agree with you 100%, it was directed towards MD, especially for a situation such as this, passing off one's own opinion as if its factual or indisputably true does EVERYONE a disservice. Back to the regular scheduled programming...

Joe
Ahhh, the irony.

From JHU Men’s Lacrosse:

“Prior to Saturday's opener, join us on our YouTube Channel for the first-ever "Hopkins Lacrosse Pregame Show".

We'll have giveaways, a behind-the-scenes look at the preseason and some great interviews to celebrate Military Appreciation Day.

All starts at 10:30 AM!”

However, the only Hopkins lacrosse YouTube channel I can find is Hopkins Sports. It would be helpful if they gave the URL.

It does...essentially I am skeptical on everything. And I'll take the record my skepticism has provide me compared to your "everything is rosy" approach any day of the week. Whether that is nonsense Petro spewed or whatever. The question is why aren't you given most stuff you say turns out to be wrong.

But, let's play this game: masks worked like a charm, right.

You can certainly believe what ever you want on masks but the facts demonstrate pretty clearly the general masks that people use don't work. Masks are essentially worthless with respect to a respiratory virus that general spreads via aerosol.
You could drive several trucks and a couple cruise ships through the holes in the logic you're attempting to use here.

"Key personnel" is basically the same guys mentioned in the IL preview, only thing that's new is that Shure also switched to SSDM. Glassmeyer is not mentioned with the SSDMs so either he's hurt or he lost his spot.

Don't think I didn't notice that it was would be so easy to dispute but didn't...

Regardless requiring one team to wear masks during the game is absurd. And if the requirement to let Hopkins lax play this weekend was imposed by someone in the administration was that players would have to wear masks then that person should be removed from making any decision beyond what type of birthday cake to but because that isn't following the science...as they say.

Steel thanks. I left that note for a posting friend that I was hoping to make smile. Good luck to your Jays...if it takes a mask to play, so be it. Glad to see them take the field. (I did see a women’s college basketball team wearing masks in a game this season BTW.....BU and Holy Cross men also wore masks during a game). It is indoors though and it was both men’s team. In the women’s game, only one team wore a mask.

-It's been interesting to me that the university has been hourly providing updates about every other part of the university and the medical school and what's going on during corona and what their conversations have been and when it comes to lacrosse it's been 3 or 4 statements over a year w/the rest of the information leaking out through emails on lacrosse forums. They seem to have a great paranoia about message control here.
-If you watch big ten competition the players do not wear masks in competition especially when they're already wearing helmets. Ohio State football does not wear masks in competition and a lot of them do not wear masks on the sideline.
-If the lacrosse program is going to have a few pages on President Daniels, who I've never seen at a game on television, they might as well give the band a section who actually shows up.
-I listened to some of dixons podcast last night which tends to ramble, and I sensed a real deep bitterness and frustration among the lacrosse community at the ivy league given that he's usually a mild mannered fellow on there. I don't follow the numbers like 16, 51, and some of you but my first thought listening was will there be more opportunities to buttress the roster w/transfers given the disappointment among returning ivy student athletes. I look at the program we're already ahead of osu w/numbers for this year, so I'm not sure.
-a lot of bitterness from the media that our new dc building took down the façade of their old haunt. If you've never been there, it's going to be quite a statement for the school to own that.

Sunny, no rain/snow, but just 31 degrees at game time tomorrow. Maybe the players like wearing masks because it keeps their faces warmer.

Do you follow the team on social media? There have been all kinds of updates: they introduced every incoming freshman, posted videos from every new coach and staff member with a message about what they were up to during the offseason, made Cole his own video when he said he was returning for another year, provided updates on alums in the PLL and MLL, revealed the new STX partnership with a video from Kyle Harrison, announced/welcomed the '21 recruits on signing day, and then, when they started practicing, they posted practice videos/mic'd up moments/photos of practice basically every single day. The only thing they probably could have done a better job with was communicating the delay in releasing the schedule, which was being held up by the conference.

Honest question: What else do you want them to do? You keep clamoring for "more information" but are never specific about what that means.

Milliman has made all the media rounds with IL, PressBox, Lax Mag, the Sun, etc.

I have not compared the amount of updates flowing from the university re: coronavirus to those of the men's lacrosse season but have you considered the possibility that one is more important than the other, and has a lot more people in the greater Hopkins community interested in its developments?

They announced right after they acquired the building that the facade would come off. That’s actually old news. The Newseum put it up there, and extravagances like that and the entire building are why the Newseum wound up financially in a huge hole and had to sell.

And it’s not JHU’s motto.
