Salty has pointed out, correctly, that there was also a latent isolationist piece of the far right that sounded reasonable to many who were disenchanted with the stubborn intractability of the Middle East. so, Trump falsely claimed that he'd always been against our actions in the ME, making up out of whole cloth his objecting to the Iraq invasion. No different than his pretending he hadn't been pro-choice all his life, holding up a bible to appease white Christian fundamentalists.
Truth did not matter.
What mattered to voters was not what Trump said (half heartedly) in 2003 but what he said he was going to do now & in the future, Which he did.
What mattered to far right wing isolationists was that he echoed their sentiments on all sorts of things, all sorts of overlapping ideologies and conspiracy theories. White Christian Nationalism being a big binding force running through much of it. Was that merely to garner their votes or to build his right wing brand for media? Or was it because it was what Vlad wanted...or all 3? And yes, he did 'deliver' on all sorts of isolationist (and Russian) objectives, undermining our relationships with liberal democratic allies around the world.
I think the one thing that may be most certain was that it did not reflect any real ideology of his own.
197 of 207 House (R)'s & 45 of 50 Senate (R)'s voted not to impeach. They reflect their voters back home.
Not all (R) voters are Q, white supremacist, christian nationalist, militia members.
Many are latent isolationists, benign nationalists, who believe in God, families & want law & order.
They find Trump less offensive than the alternative.
Your labels & condescension serves to harden their views & motivate them to vote.
yeah, it's my labels and condescension that motivates them to vote...and insurrect when they don't get their way.
Yup they 'believe in God, families & want law and order"...as if I don't? and millions of other non-delusional Americans don't?
No, there's a huge # of Trumpist GOP who now believe ANY lie told to them by Der Leader including that the election was won by him in a landslide but stolen by all powerful evil Democrats and media Globalist conglomerate that actually runs the world...and obtw abuses children, drinks the blood of babies and of course is financed by Jews like Soros...yes, they actually believe all or most of exactly this nonsense...heck, they also believe that Trump believes in God, family and law and order! And he loves America and is fighting for them...all provably fiction, of course, but hey, that's where we are right now.
But you are surely correct when you say that not all R voters are White Christian Nationalists...I'm one such. And thus, I reject Trumpism.
But the most of the elected GOP are scared as heck by the voters who bought all those lies...not all, some have a spine, but there's not a bloody one of them who fails to vote to impeach or to convict who does have a spine. Of course, some of them may actually believe all the lies too, so at least we might say there's some 'integrity' among whack jobs like Marjorie Taylor Greene. But a dangerous whack job. The rest have lost all claim to integrity.
That said, you've over stated the recent Senate vote...it was to have debate on the Constitutionality before proceeding to trial..there may be none of those who wanted to allow debate who vote to convict, but that's not a sure thing. for now, I'll hold out hope that more than 5 will find their spines. However, the only ones who will ever get a vote from me, EVER, will be those who do.
