Robert Morris 2021
Re: Robert Morris 2021
I hope they do well. Good program on the way up.
Re: Robert Morris 2021
It’s January 13, 2021. Seems odd that that they haven’t at least announced what conference they have joined.
Re: Robert Morris 2021
They are on Bellarmine's 2021 schedule, which could mean SoCon lacrosse affiliate or it could be a non-conference game. Not enough info to say 100% yet. But it's getting late early, I'd bet independent for RMU in 2021 if you made me guess right now.

RMU in real trouble in regard to finding a league and a slate of games for 2021. Huge problem

They are on there as a non-con and I have official word from the SoCon that they aren’t adding any members THIS YEAR. So a SoCon Affiliation starting in 2022 is plausible, but It looks like RoMo will be independent this season.

Thank your for this update about the status of RMU/SoCon for 2021.

I really am looking forward to seeing where RMU can place their M Lacrosse program in the future. It seems kind of like they threw them under the bus for the move to the Horizon League, which seems like it was a good move for many of their other sports, but definitely a setback for what was going on with their M lacrosse team.
Re: Robert Morris 2021
They're independent for this year because of a number of Covid related reasons but it's obvious looking at their schedule what their conference affiliation will look like in 2022 and beyond. FWIW they play Duke, ND, UVA, Cornell, Utah and most of the SoCon teams. Doesn't sound like they had trouble finding a slate of games for this season, does it?.
Re: Robert Morris 2021
No, you're right, they didn't have problem filling the games. How about filling home games, though?bar_down wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 2:38 pmThey're independent for this year because of a number of Covid related reasons but it's obvious looking at their schedule what their conference affiliation will look like in 2022 and beyond. I like RMU's program a lot, and I wish them nothing but the best. Only 2 home games is going to be a rough year though. I hope the SoCon 2022 (and beyond?) plan does pan out. I think it would be a pretty good fit.

Nice schedule for BobbyMo. We know their offense can score quickly and in bunches. They are facing some high powered offenses. Hope their defense is up to the task. Definitely a team to watch.

Could RoMo be the new Butler (Stan Ross has gotten them ranked then the school decides to go big in BB)?

I have it on record from the SoCon that they aren't adding any new members THIS season. Robert Morris and Hampton being added in 2022 has been rumored for months. Hampton actually shared news of the SoCons new ESPN + deal on their lacrosse social media accounts back in the fall.
Re: Robert Morris 2021
You laughed at the notion that they would struggle to fill a schedule. That was during COVID-19, so the Covid excuse is bs.bar_down wrote: ↑Thu Jan 21, 2021 2:38 pmThey're independent for this year because of a number of Covid related reasons but it's obvious looking at their schedule what their conference affiliation will look like in 2022 and beyond. McMinn,to his great credit put together a really good schedule. However, having only 2 home games against Bellarmine and CSU constitutes a huge problem.
10 road games, at least 2 requiring flights, is no picnic.
How many on the travel roster??
45 on the current roster. If they travel 35, probably 20 guys per bus I’d guess, 10 guys get to dress for 2 games.
Hope they travel all 45 for the players sake.
Their travel budget has to be massive. Hope they sell out those 2 home games to pay for it.

Re: Robert Morris 2021
Schedule is stacked, and it needed to be since they are staying independent this year. It still be very difficult for them to make the tournament. They will be able to score in bunches in every game. The issue will be the unknown commodity of their defense and goalie.
To make the tourny they will need to win against HP, Bucknell, Bellermine, AF, Jax, Cleveland, Richmond, and Utah. If they lose any of these games it will be very difficult to make the tourny. They will also need to win 1 or 2 of the big time match ups vs Duke, ND, Virginia, or Cornell.
Duke has been caught in the first week of the season before by AF and maybe RMU can steal that game. Perkins did have 4 goals vs Duke last year.
RMU has historically scheduled Bellermine, AF, and Jacksonville relatively consistently, so I would not read to much into them being on the schedule and RMU joining SoCon in the future.

As a parent of a current player I can tell you with a 100% certainty that no one on the team cares about how many road games they have, maybe some of the parents do but not the players. They are really excited to play one of the most difficult schedules in the country, after all they want to prove that they can play with anyone, and what 18-22 year old dreads going on road trips with their best friends? They drove all the way to Milwaukee and no one cared about the grind, hell before the season was cancelled only one of their six games were at home. It wasn't any issue. It only seems like it's an issue for people with no skin in the game.
Re: Robert Morris 2021
I don't think those of us who are concerned about RMU only having two home games are most concerned about it from the perspective of worrying about the players on the team not liking it/not wanting to do it. The bigger issue is finances for the program. It might not matter for one year - particularly one where home games aren't going to have much if any positive impact on the bottom line - but traveling costs money. RMU lacrosse definitely has a finite budget. Enough years of only two home games and a lot of travel, and eventually things go deep into the red or spending/resources have to be cut somewhere else within the program to make up for the travel costs, which can also affect results. I think it's an issue for people with skin in the game, maybe not current players, but the program as a whole on a long enough timeline, including future players.bar_down wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 5:46 pm

So if you can say with 100% certainty that no one cares, I can also say with 100% certainty that those views are short-sighted and someone within the program (maybe not current players, because it's not their problem) should care and be trying to make sure that this is not what scheduling dynamics look like for RMU lacrosse on an annual basis, moving forward. There is a huge revenue/cost difference between a 2/10 home/away split and something more typical like a 5/7 home/away split.

Nice schedule put together. Too bad we can’t play you guys anymore. Was a pretty competitive series during the last decade. Was hoping to put an a** whooping on RMU for 2019 but such is life. We’re in the same club of schools mistreated by a conference.

They probably do, but that is extremely difficult so just being realistic. But having 1 or 2 top 10 wins and your only few loses are vs, lets just say as an example, VA and Cornell, i think they would seriously have a shot.redfoxalum wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 7:07 pmWould think they need to run the table to make the tournament.romorooter_4.0 wrote: ↑Fri Jan 22, 2021 2:34 pm Schedule is stacked, and it needed to be since they are staying independent this year. The games @ Cornell (April 17) and @ Richmond (April 24) have been removed from the schedule that Robert Morris posted.
The RMU game was not on the schedule that Richmond posted, and Cornell has not released a schedule for 2021.
