Well the target has been firmly placed on the Spiders backs...a well earned preseason #1 ranking! I have a very funny feeling these rankings will look entirely different by seasons end! Go Spiders!

2019 Atlantic 10 Preseason Poll
1. Richmond, 95 (5)
2. Massachusetts, 94 (5)
3. Saint Joseph's, 73
4. Davidson, 63
5. George Mason, 62
6. VCU, 55
7. George Washington, 34
8. La Salle, 31
9. Duquesne, 28
10. St. Bonaventure, 15

I'm looking at UMass and Richmond like it's the Superbowl: NE vs. LA,
old veterans vs. upstart contenders. I'm going with the vets.

A little shout out to a future Spider making the final roster for the U.S. Women's U19 Team. Sophia DiCenso, a senior from Foxboro MA made the cut. Nice representation for both Richmond and the A-10!!! Congrats!

Cross your fingers Spider fans, I may have spoken too soon! There will still be one more cut going from 23 to 18. Either way it turn out, it's still a great accomplishment for such a young player!

Congrats to the Richmond player who made the most recent cut.
UMass also has two in the running: Hannah Heller and Ally Murphy.
Good luck to all!

FORMER PLAYERS, now ASSISTANT COACHES:
Erica Eipp- Yale
Hannah Murphy- Northwestern
Kelsey Sheridan- Mason
Holly Turner- High Point

I lost track of a few others after they left their last schools-
Katie Ferris- Holy Cross?
Rachel Vallerelli- Villanova?
Kelsey McGovern - Harvard?

FORMER ASSISTANT COACHES, now HEAD COACHES
Brianna Roche- Bryant
Sarah Albright- UNH

I lost track of a few others after they left their last schools-
Whitney Michele- Michigan?
Eileen Finn- UNH?

That's the best I can do. Please add any that I didn't think of.
An interesting match-up could be UMass taking on Bryant this weekend in a non-conference game.
The new Bryant coach is Brianna Roche, a former offensive coordinator at UMass.
Both teams in the past have had high flying offenses. Could be in for a lotta goals!

Well the Spiders have fallen to 1-1 on the season after a tough loss vs UVA 19-5. As good as UVA is the Spiders didn't play as poorly as the score indicates. I will give a lot of credit to the Cavaliers goalie who put on a clinic. Richmond hopes to get back on track this Saturday in a home game vs. American. Its just a matter of time before the top guns on this team start to click on all cylinders. SLF

A10WLaxFan wrote: Fri Oct 12, 2018 4:27 pm Haven't seen any Fall Ball this year, but based on past history and recent updates, here's my guess for 2019 pre-season picks:

UMass
Richmond
St. Joe's
VCU

Mason
GW
Davidson

LaSalle
Duquesne
St. Bonnie's

The A10 still looks to me to be stratified into thirds, with a subtle shake-up at the top.
I'm guessing that UMass will be loaded for bear, and will reclaim the crown.
Time for an update based on early non-conference records:

UMass.........2-2.....Anderson is bustin' loose
Richmond.....3-1.....Real deal, learned from UVA
St. Joe's.......2-2.....Close battles with ranked teams
VCU............2-1......Huge game upcoming on 3/13

Mason.........3-2......Shaping up
GWU...........1-3......Disappointing start
Davidson......5-0.......Wow!

LaSalle........1-3.......Tough beginning
Duquesne.....4-0........Nice surprise
St. Bonnie's...1-3........Good to get a "W"

I'll wait until non-conf games are done to modify my guess at rankings for A10 play.
Here we go!

Good to see the A10 thread starting to heat up. Should make for a fun year.
We have 3 fairly close predictions on A10 rankings: one that's official, one from me, and another from Noodle.
Here's a consensus of all 3 (one point assigned for each place). Ties at 4th place and 8th place.

OFFICIAL.................A10WLaxFan....................NOODLE.................CONSENSUS

1 Richmond..............1 UMass..........................1 Richmond.............1 Richmond (4 pts)
2 UMass..................2 Richmond......................2 UMass.................2 UMass (5 pts)
3 St. Joe's................3 St. Joe's.......................3 St. Joe's...............3 St. Joe's (9 pts)
4 Davidson...............4 VCU.............................4 Davidson..............4 Davidson (15 pts)
5 Mason..................5 Mason..........................5 Mason..................4 Mason (15 pts)
6 VCU.....................6 GW.............................6 VCU.....................6 VCU (16 pts)
7 GW......................7 Davidson......................7 Duquesne...............7 GW (21 pts)
8 LaSalle..................8 LaSalle........................8 GW......................8 Duquesne (25 pts)
9 Duquesne...............9 Duquesne.....................9 LaSalle..................8 LaSalle (25 pts)
10 St. Bonnie's...........10 St. Bonnie's..................10 St. Bonnie's...........10 St. Bonnie's (30 pts)

In the CONSENSUS, I think VCU might be ranked too low, and Davidson might be too high. We'll see.

CURRENT STANDINGS
(non-conference games only)
6-0 Davidson
4-0 Duquesne
4-1 Richmond
3-2 UMass
3-2 VCU
4-3 Mason
3-3 St. Joe's
2-4 GW
1-4 LaSalle
1-4 St. Bonnie's
Some scheduling includes games with much weaker opponents.
Teams with schedules with ranked opponents include St. Joe's, UMass, Richmond and Mason.
That battle hardening should pay off with In-conference play.

All Atlantic 10 teams have finished non-conference play, and in-conference games begin today.
UMass and Richmond remain the favorites, and each could be 7-0 in-conference when they meet on April 14.
That should be a dog fight (as usual) and could set the tone for the A10 Tournament.
Here are the first week games, and my predicted winner in bold:
St. Joe's vs. St. Bonaventure......St. JOE'S
GW vs. LaSalle......................GW
Duquesne vs. VCU...................VCU
Richmond vs. Mason................RICHMOND
UMass vs. Davidson.................UMASS
St. Bonnie's vs. Richmond..........RICHMOND
St. Joe's vs. Duquesne..............ST.JOE'S
GW vs Davidson.....................DAVIDSON
VCU vs. UMass.......................UMASS
