What happened with Lycoming and Oberlin? Salary cuts? Performance?
Regarding Husson, I've heard they had qualified guys apply. However the AD seems like he's being incredibly picky with his choosing, not even giving guys calls who have played and coached at very high levels.
2020 Coaching Carousel
Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
I would imagine these job vacancy Hs less to do with performance and more to do with the uncertainty of the profession at this point due to the pandemic. I have heard that young coaches fear the future of their schools/athletic programs etc.
Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
At this point any of the smaller colleges should be happy just to field a team after the pandemic is over with. Husson included
Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
I have no idea if this is the case with some of these openings, but I know that in some cases, a job needs to be posted and "open" after a work stoppage / lay-off type situation. I've talked to a few coaches in other sports who were given the option of being on unpaid leave / furlough but getting their job back eventually; or taking a some severance pay and having to re-apply for their job when the time came.
This happened to a number of full-time assistant football coaches at the D3 level this summer. I believe this has to do with giving the coach the ability to collect unemployment, maybe???
As for Husson- I'm a bit surprised that they haven't made a hire yet. I get the idea that a school could save money by delaying a hiring a bit; and maybe that is the case; but their website doesn't even have a person of contact for recruiting purposes....Seems very odd.

Regarding Oberlin- Coach Grossman (Conn College 2005 All American and 1st team NESCAC goalie) decided after 10 years he would pursue a Master's full time to better move ahead in the field of education and seize greater opportunity. He had a very strong relationship with the athletic dept and admissions (helmed by the former Middlebury director of admissions). No dark story. He was recruiting better players over the last 4 years and was building a better foundation to more strongly compete. Hopefully they bring in the right person to accelerate performance and challenge in the NCAC. The glide path is there with admissions, athletics, facilities and fundraising aligned.

Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
Another good guy walks away from the college game. My guess is he will end up on a prep school sideline in the near future. College lacrosse is a grind that one can easily fall victim to burn out. Not saying this happened to Grossman, but I think he is smart to pursue employment outside of college athletics. Like people said above...the college landscape is shifting.

Interesting note about Oberlin, the last line of their story on the Grossman departure was "a national search for Grossman's successor will begin immediately..." however it doesn't appear the job has been posted 2 weeks later. Obviously the holidays and winter break could be playing a roll In it but you would think there would be some urgency to try to get someone in place with spring approaching quickly.

My guess is Oberlin will just go with current assistant as interim HC.boredatwork wrote: ↑Tue Jan 05, 2021 11:00 am Interesting note about Oberlin, the last line of their story on the Grossman departure was "a national search for Grossman's successor will begin immediately..." however it doesn't appear the job has been posted 2 weeks later. Re: 2020 Coaching Carousel
or they might be considering scrapping spring sports for the year, and debating the need for a fast hire if they're not going to have a season.
FWIW - I think that would be a terrible approach, and the kind of thing that sets recruiting and the team back at least a couple years

It's either a thoughtful comment or smartass sarcasm. Learn to recognize the difference.
