Patriot League Splitting Into Two Division For 2021

According to a report from Matt Kinnear of Inside Lacrosse, the Patriot League will be splitting into two divisions for the 2021 men’s lacrosse season and playing mostly a conference schedule.

The North Division will be comprised of Army, Boston U, Colgate and Holy Cross. The South Division will be made up of Bucknell, Lafayette, Lehigh, Loyola and Navy. This is a similar situation to what the Patriot League did with their basketball schedule, going conference-only and splitting the conference up into three mini conferences.

Per the report, the Patriot League conference schedule will begin on March 6th and will end on April 24th. The Patriot League Tournament will take place from May 7th-9th. Whether teams will be able to play non-conference games prior to the start of conference play will likely vary from school to school.

This report is very consistent to the schedule that Navy posted on their athletic’s website last week. The schedule features seven contest against Patriot League opponents and begins on March 13th. The Midshipmen are set to play cross-division contest against Holy Cross and arch-rival Army. The Army-Navy game is currently set to take place the last week of the season, as usual.

Navy is the only team who has posted a 2021 schedule online thus far. Stony Brook was the first team to post any kind of schedule online, posting a partial schedule a few months back. According to multiple sources, there should be a flurry of schedules dropping across multiple conferences following the holidays.

I'll take it, too, though... After we discover who are the cream of each conference's crop, I'd really like some semblance of an end of season tourney.

WEST POINT, N.Y. - The Army West Point men's lacrosse game against Colgate University, previously scheduled for Saturday, Mar. 13 at 1 p.m., has been postponed due to a positive COVID-19 test within Army's Tier 1.

Rescheduling of the game will be announced at a later date.

NCAA TIER 1 DEFINITION: Tier 1 is the highest exposure tier and consists of individuals for whom physical distancing and face coverings are not possible or effective during athletic training or competition. About what I expected, close,

8-6 Lehigh,
Sisselberger is killing it, so you could argue, good game
Cadets to keep it close.

Lehigh holds off Army after Army climbs back into the game at11-11 and 12-12. Fun game to watch. Neither team looks ACC or MD skilled (despite Army's game one dismantling of Syracuse). Denver has the makings of an elite team as well, and I'll wait to see Rutgers go 8-2 in the BIG before I put them in that class. Not sold on Georgetwon either. Sisselberger for Lehigh was a beast at FOGO where Army has been traditionally weak for years. Loyola trouncing Navy at the half. B.U. lost to Utah. League will likely sneak a second bid to the dance between Lehigh, Army and Loyola, but it certainly is no sure thing.
